Salad Night

Giphy

We go to join our friends for Lunch Bunch today. We almost always have the ‘Chicken Thingies.” (I can never remember whether they call them chicken fingers, strips, or whatever, but they are served with honey mustard and are delicious.

Since we are TRYING to lose some of our lard, we try to “eat-half-and-bring-home-half” to make chef salad for our dinner on Fridays.

Yesterday I got home from my massage to find my husband waiting for me so we could go out again for another errand. On the way home, he stopped at our local grocery wanting to get lunch from the deli there. We got fish dinners, enjoying every bite, but paying the price for it on the scales this morning. The pound I had gotten off yesterday had reappeared today. :0( Today will be another chance to remove it.

It’s a good thing we both enjoy salad.

Ahhhhhh

giphy

I’m leaving in about 45 minutes for my once-a-month massage. Ahhhhhhhh! My body is already saying, “THANK YOU!”

I used to think fondly of getting one, but couldn’t really justify spending the money.

Then, after working 12 hour days, 5 days a week, doing medical transcription and bookkeeping for a busy general surgeons’ office for years, I was in the position of not being able to pull a tee shirt off over my head and needed help. Massage, whirlpools, my bosses hiring additional part-time help and changing my chair and my keyboard at work all combined to heal me.

I then went a long time without massage. My body wasn’t happy. My neck and back hurt. It was like I was trying to pull everything ‘in,’ and I started searching for a massage therapist here in Greenwood. I won the lottery when I found

Lynn Moody 479-638-8788.

Now my monthly massage is part of my ‘take care of me’ regimen. I go in, just looking forward to Lynn’s competent hands. She finds all the tight, knotted places I didn’t know I had and kneads them away. I come away, limp as a noodle, relaxed, and smiling, my next appointment date in hand.

Today’s world is a stressful one for many, many reasons. If you don’t get massages, I can’t recommend them highly enough for the peace of your mind and body. Letting go with a person you trust is a gift you should definitely give yourself.

Thoughts on a Wednesday 9-8-2021

flickr.com

My outlook is much more upbeat today.

Since our weather is much more civilized than it has been – only 90 degrees F. today with much less humidity – I’m planning to pull out our tomato plants today. They have spread their vines all over the place, making it impossible to mow or weed whack, and have stopped producing tomatoes, so it’s more than time to get them out. Fresh ripe tomatoes are one of the joys of our lives, so it’s well worth the time and effort to put them in each year. We get spoiled from the color on our plates, the fabulous aroma, and delicious taste for two to even three months each year!

I have a lot to clean up in the yard, particularly since I’ve neglected all but the absolutely necessary with the heat we’ve had, but I’ll try to do a bit each day until things look better around here.

Toronto Star

I have never coveted money, as such, but it would be really nice to never have to worry about it. I’m happy whenever I see someone who has really been successful in this regard due to hard work and providing something people enjoy. I read awhile back that Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, one of my favorite authors, has a net worth of around $400 million. I couldn’t be happier for her and her family. She has given me so much through her writing over the years, providing entertainment, escape, and challenge. I selfishly want her to live, thrive, and write forever. :0) (I’ve preordered the paperback version of a new J.D. Robb book that will be delivered in December, and she has a newer hardback coming out in February…)

I think you already know that I’m a champion procrastinator, having given myself several awards for it over the years. (Everyone should be good at SOMETHING. :0) ) My latest procrastination is about bookkeeping. I’m TRYING to make myself catch up. I’m several months behind right now. As one of my friends, Maria, suggested about my dieting efforts – that I should break the big goal into doable chunks so it doesn’t seem to intimidating – I’m trying now to say ‘one month at a time,’ and have put the first one on my to-do-list for today, along with the removal of the tomato plants. Fingers crossed I can get it DONE.

After a lot of lightning overnight, we’re having a truly lovely day today. I will finish my blog writing and “have at” my to-do list. Have a great day!

Labor Day 2021

I have celebrated Labor Day this year by NOT laboring very much.

I did the laundry and vacuumed the first floor tiled areas, but that’s about it. I have enjoyed reading and napping and watching TV, talking with my husband, playing with Amber, the dog, and Abby, the cat. It’s been a lovely day.

Tomorrow will be full of work and errands, but that’s tomorrow.

Happy Labor Day.

That Feeling

noguiltlife.com

It wasn’t actually a ‘cheat meal.”

It’s difficult to stick to a diet when there is another person involved. I KNOW. I should be strong enough to make my own decisions and not eat even though my husband is, but it is what it is.

Saturday we were good. We didn’t do snacks and we both enjoyed less of a smirk from the scales. Sunday I was all set to continue that, but my husband asked me mid-afternoon if I would fix him a bagel with cream cheese. I did that, and, of COURSE I also had a snack….

Sometimes we enjoy no-sugar-added ice cream before bed. I was being strong, and then my husband was beside me with a chocolate ice cream bar…

AND – to top it all off – I was downstairs reading at 2:30 this morning, not able to sleep, and had a snack….

So the sweet animal in the picture above and I are both feeling stuffed and guilty this morning.

I am determined to make TODAY a good day, though, eating right and doing my exercises, drinking lots of water, etc. I will ask my husband to help me be strong – NOT bringing me things I shouldn’t be eating, and I will try to be sleepy enough to sleep through the night so I won’t be tempted by the fridge calling to me… :0)

Good Girl!

Getty Images

I’m a good girl.

Yesterday I saw that the weather people were forecasting a cold front and rain overnight. My husband had mowed the lawn recently, but I had been putting off my part of it, weed whacking, for several days. I finally got out there, even though it was really hot and humid, taking two sessions to make my way around the house, cleaning up the areas that he can’t reach with the mower – along the sidewalks, around the edge of the front porch pad, the garage pad, under the deck, the steps on both sides of the deck, around the planters, etc.

It took me about an hour to finally cool down after I came in. I drank lots of water, rested, and finally jumped into the shower before fixing dinner. I really don’t handle hot weather as well as I used to. The cold front and rain did, indeed, come overnight. It makes me happy today to see that it looks like someone really does live here and care about things. :0)
