A shout-out this morning to my good friend Marsha.
She lives across the country from me, but in my heart all the time.
We are helping each other be the healthiest we can be by each motivating the other to exercise every day.
She is walking to the post office daily and also using a new pedaler in her home so she doesn’t have to depend on the weather being good.
I am doing yoga practice daily and then ‘something else,’ including, but not limited to, at least one of the following –
We KNOW that exercise is good for us, but each of us is a master at making excuses for NOT doing it. We care about each other, though, and are now comparing notes daily.
If we have done what we promised each other (and ourselves) we would do, we put a star on our calendar. If not, we tell them we love them and encourage them to do better the next day.
Yesterday we both got a star! We’ll try to do it again today. :0)

I finished reading Desperation in Death #55 in the In Death series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). I was feeling a bit down, because the latest in the series, Encore in Death, just came out in hardback at the end of February, so it’ll be quite awhile before I can even pre-order the paperback.
I happened upon one I hadn’t heard of while searching for used books, and discovered that there are actually 19 NOVELLAS in this series! How did I not KNOW that?
Anyhow, I ordered what I could find and read the first book of three novellas yesterday. I’ve started a second one now and am thoroughly enjoying the reprieve of being at the current end of the series.
I’m searching for the rest of the 19 and will order them as soon as I can find them. It’s interesting because other authors are involved, collaborating with Nora Roberts – the highest accolade there would be as a writer, I would think.
I’m a very happy camper, being able to enjoy Eve Dallas’ world awhile longer.

I had a good day yesterday.
At Lunch Bunch, my good friend Linda and her daughter, Patty were there, and had decided to celebrate my birthday a week early! Needless to say, I was delighted to feel so special. Linda hasn’t been feeling well, so it was particularly wonderful to catch up with her and hug her neck. I have such great friends.
This is one of my birthday presents. The earrings are made of pop cans! I just love them. :0)
It was cold and rainy, with a pretty stiff wind, so we didn’t put up the mailbox decoration yesterday. We’re hoping to do that soon, probably the next time we go to town, since the weather looks really nice the next few days. This is what we’ll put up for March –
When it warms up a bit, I’m planning to take a walk around the yard, looking for more signs of spring. Such an exciting time of the year when ‘magic’ happens and plants sprout and bloom on their own.

My spirits have lifted. I don’t care that it’s rainy and cold, knowing that spring isn’t too far off. I’m hoping that we’ve broken the back of winter, but I know that Mother Nature can change her mind and sprinkle (or slam) us with more of the white stuff this month. I’m trying to keep positive thoughts about all of it, seeing lots of blooms around the yard – more each day.
This morning, for example, I noticed that several of our redbud trees are blooming.
A quick walk around the yard – it IS still raining a bit – shows lots of color. Here’s a forsythia.
The tulip tree didn’t lose all of its blooms.
And daffodils are showing their happy faces all around the yard.
My heart is full as I see all these sweet things blooming their little hearts out. I hope that you are seeing signs of promise and hope, too.

As you can see, red and yellow blobs are coming for us today. Right now it’s just cloudy. We’re hoping that the used computer we’re expecting to be delivered will come BEFORE the blobs arrive.
Our pest spraying guy is supposed to be here around 11:00 this morning. Finding what was Tri-Hill Pest Control and is now West Termite, Pest & Lawn (with the same wonderful man coming to the house) was one of the best things we’ve done. I was stung/bitten (?) by a scorpion in our bed several years ago and still have nightmares about it from time to time. These people spray for everything – including elephants – at my request with stuff that is very deadly for bugs but safe for Amber and Abby. I feel quite lucky we’re so well taken care of.
I had a very happy thing happen yesterday. I received a birthday card from a dear friend who lives in Virginia. She used to be on my Creative Artworks website and is so talented that it wouldn’t surprise me if she crocheted a bus. It was great to hear from her. I’ll reach out to her today.
I discovered this morning that folding our laundry upstairs on our made bed is a time-saving and easier way to handle the task than using my fold-down table in the laundry room or asking my husband to help me and then hauling the full basket up the stairs. Especially easier was folding the sheets and the comforter I had washed. It has only taken me about 36 years to figure this out….

Filling the Jars
Happy March! Celebrations are going on in the Lewis household that February is gone for another year and that the start of spring isn’t too far away.
We’re in for a BUNCH of rain and possibly severe storms starting today and running through Friday, with a flood watch. Since we live on top of a hill, if we make it through the thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hail, we’re good. :0)
I’m doing laundry, changing bed linens, vacuuming and other exciting stuff today. Right now we have lots of happy looking daffodils all around the yard, so it looks like our yard is celebrating, too.
This is an older photo, when we covered the boxes with tarps. This year we used fabric weed control cut to length and held down with bricks. They have lasted all winter and through the thunderstorms and gusty winds so far.
I’ll get serious about figuring what I’d like to plant in my garden this year. I’m hoping for lots of lettuce and spinach plants for sale soon. Also sweet onions of some type. Tomato plants, of course, radish seeds, celery plants transferred from buying bunches at the store. I’m thinking about trying some herbs on my kitchen divider this year. It’ll be fun to start digging in the dirt again.
I hope that this first day of March is a beautiful one for you.
I’m celebrating the end of February, plus starting a petition to eliminate it from the calendar. I would also include another to eliminate Daylight Savings Time. This isn’t rational – just emotional – but it would make me very happy. I would just like to have winter in December and January and then skip right to March and spring. Keep the same time all year ’round. It doesn’t really matter WHICH time is chosen – just pick one and stick to it.
If you would like to sign the petitions, let me know. I’m not sure who we should send them to, but I’ll think on it.

We seem to have come through the severe weather last night without damage – at least that we have found yet. It was scary for a while, though, with our weather alert going off with a tornado WARNING covering Ft. Smith, but not including Greenwood. We had lots of really gusty winds to the point we were talking about possibly losing some of the siding off the house or losing our deck cover, not to mention more trees and branches down.

It’s sunny and 55 degrees -thankfully, quiet and pretty now. Later we’ll gather our trash and take it down. I don’t know if the trash can will still be there. My husband tethered it to the pole, but he scoffs at what he calls my ‘obsession’ with tying it tightly. Since I have trouble not slipping and sliding over the gravel, he has taken over the dragging it up and down and tethering it to the pole. The trip down the driveway will also tell us if we had any other damage overnight. Fingers crossed.
Gusty winds like that make me wonder what the animals do to protect themselves. We heard a couple of driveway alarms that my husband said were probably deer walking around. The wind was gusting to such an extent I would think they would have trouble not being blown off their feet.
We are still under a ‘wind advisory’ for another hour or so this morning, but I think the worst is past now.

I’m really hoping we aren’t blown away overnight here because I would hate to miss the coming spring. I just walked around the yard a bit, taking a few pics, feeling my heart lift as I saw so many signs that winter is almost behind us.
This display is particularly heartwarming because years ago I dug up all the daffodils here and relocated them all around the yard. Little did I know that somehow you CAN’T dig them all up. They just keep coming. Isn’t that wonderful?
This is all by itself in one of the trio planters that divide our front yard from the driveway. I just LOVE the color.
Can you hear them trumpeting, “Spring is on the way!” ?

It’s cloudy here today with possibly severe storms including gusty winds predicted around midnight tonight. I hope we get through it all right.
I can’t tell you how happy I am that I figured out what was going on with my images saving and accessing, and that my husband is now waiting for a used computer to replace the one we were using in the shop. Things are calm around here now – a priceless thing. :0)

I’m planning to spend some time in my art room this afternoon. I’m playing with things, experimenting with some new techniques and materials. I’m having a lot of fun.
We don’t have any big plans today, so we can take our time with things that we enjoy. My husband even found a frozen ribs dinner he wants to try tonight, so all we have to do is nuke a few things and eat.

I’m starting to re-read this one today. It’s # 51 in the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). I only have 4 more before I dive into the newest paperback in my collection, “Desperation in Death” #55. #56, “Encore in Death” is due to be out in hardback at the end of this month. I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait – 6 months at least, before they will allow me to pre-order the paperback. It’s another character-building exercise for me. :0)
In the meantime, I’m thoroughly enjoying the world of Lieutenant Eve Dallas, futuristic murder cop in New York.
