Pacific Prime Thailand

We are just back from going to see Khun Nan, the lady at the agency who helps us get our visas and handles our 90-day-reporting required in Thailand. Brian said when he first got here, he and his friends had more challenge than they wanted trying to be sure they were legal. The Thai government is really serious about making sure that everyone is here legally. You carry your passport everywhere, having to show it at the doctor’s office, for example, and for other services. Since you never know when it will be required, you carry it all the time.

Brian needs to renew his, and the 3 of us needed to file our 90-day reporting, so Nan busily shuffled papers, made copies, had Brian sign all the paperwork, etc. He paid for everything and we go to the 2nd floor of the big mall this coming Friday afternoon to finish the process. A person from the office will meet us there and get us through whatever is needed.

Brian has some kind of “VIP” visa. I have a “retirement” visa, and Harvey has a “medical” visa. The requirements for each are different. We have to be careful to note when to contact Nan again for an appointment to do whatever comes next. We think she is worth her weight in gold.

The pollution index changed fast this morning. I opened my windows when we returned from the gym. When I went up for breakfast, Brian was cautioning me that the index was bad this morning, since his air filters were “complaining” a bit. I came down, closed everything up and turned the filters back on. They shot up to the high 50s. That’s the highest I have seen them. It’s already 93 outside now, so I guess we’re officially into the ‘hot and hazy’ season now. I’m grateful that I have good air filters and an a/c that works now.

Boo – Hiss – Groan – I love it.

Windows open, breeze coming through, sun shining – what more could anyone ask? I’ve walked my mile at the gym, increasing my speed a notch this morning; shared breakfast with Brian (breakfast burrito – with scrambled eggs, bacon, and salad wrapped in a tortilla, with a side of some Thai apple slices); and now have a free day – except for taking clothes to the laundry some time this morning. AHHHHH!

Mid morning yesterday Brian peeled and cut up some of the mayong-chit we received as a gift from one of the building housekeepers. It was a delicious combination of mango/peach/plum and had a slightly sour, but mostly sweet taste. I really liked it, though it was a bit messy to peel and cut up.

Brian has cautioned me not to leave ANY food or any little drips or drops or smells of any food on the counter or elsewhere to avoid being besieged with ants. I got a HINT of that when I didn’t clean out my sink quickly enough, leaving a small drop of olive oil. It took me several days to get rid of them, and I’ve been more careful since. We have no problem at all if we are just super clean. 🧼

Anyway, the gift of the mayong-chit was super nice and we loved it. We’ll probably eat the rest of it today. YUM!

Today I will do yoga stretches mid morning. To this I have added some stretching standing up, arms together over my head, reaching for the ceiling, and then bending over and reaching toward the floor several times. I’ve also added some leg lifts (although I’m pathetic at this so far) and some abdominal crunches with legs straight and with legs bent. This makes for a good bit of exercise combined with walking the mile at the gym first thing every morning.

I will get started painting another sketch today, 🎨 and see if I can make some progress on my puzzle. 🧩 My book on my Kindle book 📖 is calling me, as well. And, of course, before any of these, I’ll do my posts ✍🏼 for the blog.

I was a ‘good girl’ today, doing my yoga stretches this morning instead of waiting until this afternoon, when I might make excuses and not do them. Changing my routine to exercising when I am the most alert is working for me, so I’m going to continue it. (Full Disclosure: I am NOT – I repeat NOT even THINKING about doing THIS pose… ) 🤣

My head is exploding from all the ideas I have for what I would like to try in my art alcove lately. I want to play with leaf designs. I found a beautiful real leaf on the ground and brought it home to see what I could do. I’m also getting ready to try to draw one of the shadow images I talked about earlier. I’m thinking of doing images that relate to words or quotes or parts of songs I like….

I’ve been lazy this morning.

We went to the gym, and then shared a breakfast burrito – chicken, avocado slices and salad wrapped up in a tortilla. YUM! My laundry is out drying on my balcony. Jets have been flying over this morning – not a usual occurrence – and they are quite loud, but it’s not enough to spoil my mood.

The weather is really nice here, so I’ve been messing around on the computer while enjoying a combination of open windows, nice breeze, sunshine, and a fan. I keep closing my eyes and smiling, just enjoying this wonderful time. AHHHHHHHH!

Colorations – The Art of Learning

I want to do some painting today. Yesterday was way too busy to even THINK about that, so today I’ll enjoy trying to make up for lost time.

Pinterest

Yoga stretches are on tap for today. I have found myself making some excuses for not doing them, or my water bottle exercises in the mid afternoon on alternate days, so I’ll make a point of doing them earlier today.

This is John Butler. My son, Brian, showed me this website last night after dinner. He says it’s a really good source for learning how to meditate. I have been spending several minutes each day just sitting quietly, feet on the floor, eyes closed, thinking about something I’m thankful for. I would like to expand that, and this might be a good source –

It’s called, “The Common Sense Guide to Meditation (Part 1) – John Butler’s Simple Meditation Method.” I’m going to listen to it tonight. I thought you might be interested in checking it out, too.

I love this. I wish I could do this during my yoga stretches. This lady looks like she could fold herself into a paper airplane and fly herself across the room. I do ‘old lady yoga stretches’ concentrating on stretching everything I have very slowly, relaxing and breathing into the stretches. Even with that, yesterday I must have overdone SOMETHING because I’m having to dose myself with Tylenol today. That said, I managed my mile walk on the treadmill at the gym this morning, and I’m hoping to do some extra QUIET stretches today, trying to undo whatever I did…

Sensory Joy

Yesterday I received the weighted blanket I ordered. It is about the size of a throw and just perfect for my needs. I restored my purple throw that Brian bought me a while back to my living area couch. It was like the blanket we loved on the luxury long flight on the way from the states to Thailand. I had exclaimed about it, and suddenly one showed up – and it was purple! Brian is definitely a keeper! 🤗

Anyway, “The Cool Season” in Thailand is definitely chilly in the mornings and at night, with a low of 50. There is no heat in Thailand, and I’m used to being able to set a thermostat for about 68, or have the luxury of a fire in the fireplace, an electric blanket, etc. So I’m wearing snuggly long pants to the gym and a jeans jacket, a hoodie over my shirt in my place, and was moving the throw back and forth from the living area to my bed and back again.

I’ve never had a weighted blanket, but it sounded really good. It arrived yesterday and I immediately put it on the bed and tried it for the first time last night. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like being hugged. Heavy, warm, and snuggly. I slept super well last night. 🥰

We visited my husband at the nursing home this morning. It broke my heart because he really wanted to come home with us. He has no concept of the fact that it takes 3 experienced caretakers to get him in or out of the wheelchair or the fact that we have hired 24 hour care to meet all of his needs. He doesn’t grasp the fact that our places aren’t set up to accommodate wheelchairs, special beds, any place for 24 hour care to live, bathing facilities, ambulances for transportation… Anyway, barring a miracle, him coming ‘home’ just won’t happen. He WAS comfortable, wasn’t hurting anywhere, was glad to see us, and was going to try to eat whatever the caretakers brought for him today. Fingers crossed.🤞

As I type, the windows are open and I have a fan moving the air around even more. It’s sunny and 84 degrees now – simply beautiful. Brian says the season where the air quality is poor due to the farmers burning the crop residues in their fields is approaching, but I’ll enjoy this every day I can. I just LOVE it!

Did you know that today is National Hugging Day? Neither did I, but I think this should be celebrated at least once every DAY…

It’s a really lovely day here in Thailand – sunny and 77 degrees F. right now. I just turned off the air purifiers and threw open the windows to bring the warm air in. I’ve been standing in my window in the sunshine from time to time while the temperature warmed up. Really nice! 🌞

This is the jigsaw puzzle that is stumping me now. I love the colors, though, and some of the fish on either side are emerging. I have two of the smaller turtles ready, but not attached to anything – the last thing will be the main attraction – the big turtle in the middle. I have only found some pieces of his stomach so far…

Thoughts on a Wednesday, 8-17-2025

This is my new jigsaw puzzle. I’ve been working on it about a week. I only have the outside edge and some various small groupings done. I just love this picture. I would like to GO here, sit by the water and simply soak up the ‘calm.’

These are my two newest sketches/paintings.

Today I’m going to do a good, longer session of yoga stretches than I normally do. I feel kind of ‘compressed’ for some reason, so this will help bring me back to normal. I haven’t decided if I’ll do my water-bottle-weights exercises or simply dance to some bouncy music yet in addition.

We’re having a beautiful day here, full of bright sunshine, with thunderstorms hopefully holding off until around 5pm if my phone app is correct. That would be lovely.

I watched one of my all time favorite movies yesterday afternoon – “Patch Adams.” I hadn’t seen it in years. I love Robin Williams and am still sad he’s gone. It’s the sadder parts of movies he’s been in that really get to me. It seems he had such a giant heart.

I hope you, also, have several things that you can do to regroup and relax. Things that bring a big smile to your face and fills your heart with hope.

Getting Moving

Brian and I just got back from “Walkin’ to New Orleans” to get to a nice looking gym, where he has been running first thing in the morning for the past 4 days, I think.

We have a one month membership for me now. I will start Monday morning. They open at 6 a. m. , so we will start walking from here at 5:50. He says it’s a 5 minute walk for him and it took us 10 minutes to get there this afternoon. Actually, the walking over there and walking back will make me proud of this old lady.😛

He runs for 25 minutes. I will try to walk on the treadmill for the same 25 minutes he is running. Then I am planning to do a slow easy yoga stretching session in the afternoons. We will see how it goes. 🙂

“If You Rest, You Rust”

The quote is by Helen Hayes. I’m trying to live by her words.

Patty Durfee-Pinterest

I’ve been doing my exercise regimen for a reasonably long time now. At the end of the month, I’ll measure to see if I’ve made any progress in the ‘losing-my-lard’ project.

Newport Daily News

I AM feeling looser and stronger than I did. When I’m writing my blog posts to you each morning, I stop after each one to do a series of exercises with 3-pound weights. I write another post, and do another series until I’ve finished the 4 posts I write every day. This results in a reasonable number of repetitions on trying to strengthen my arms.

I then do chair exercises that are supposed to be targeting my abdomen or core. There are four exercises. When I do two of them, I can really feel it. The other two involve my arms, and I’m not strong enough yet to do them, but I hope to work up to them.

Pinterest

The only other exercise I do daily is my yoga stretches in the afternoon. I do a half hour to 45 minutes, doing a series of big stretches. I don’t do a lot of ‘poses,’ like people who really do yoga well do. I just do stretches on my mat, breathing into the stretches and concentrating on relaxing.

sent to me by my friend, Marsha.

I’ll be reporting to you at the end of the month. Keep moving!

Womens Health

I tried a new way of exercising yesterday that seemed good for me. I work on the computer for a few minutes – read email, write a blog post, or something similar, then do a group of exercises with my 3-pound weights. Then back to the computer, repeating over and over until I’ve done everything I usually do. Yesterday that made for about 6 short sessions with the weights, which my shoulders and arms told me was a good amount. Later in the afternoon I did my regular yoga stretches.

Today will hopefully be a quiet day for us. My husband is still sleeping, meaning he’s having a good night of rest after several days of fitful rest followed by several naps in his chair during the day. I hope he feels good when he comes downstairs. I think the increase in my exercising is helping ME with mine.

Exercise

johndrysdale.com-boredpanda.com

I have added an abdominal exercise to my yoga stretching practice.

It’s similar to this, but my arms are straight toward my feet. I hold it a second and then stretch out both arms and legs, making my body straight, feet NOT touching the floor. Then pull up and do it again. At first it was all I could do to do 5 repetitions, and my stomach muscles voiced their strenuous displeasure for about three days. I continued to do the 5 reps daily. On day 4 (yesterday) the soreness had eased quite a bit, so I did 6 reps. I’ll continue with this until I feel I can add another….

Monday Yoga Stretches

Tenor

Actually, this sweet dog is doing a better job right now than I.

Today I’m restarting my exercise program – my effort to move more, get more flexible, improve my balance, ease some back pain.

I’m starting my yoga stretches again slowly – just Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, and will see how that goes. It’s mystifying that I have to keep MAKING myself exercise – proving to myself over and over how much better I feel when I do.

Exercise is just above house cleaning on my priorities – I guess I’m a slug.

Maybe a NICE slug, though. :0)

I’m still doing my old lady yoga stretching, but I’m finding it harder to do my elliptical trainer now. It is in the garage, the only place with a hard, bare floor. It’s 38 degrees F. outside right now. I’m TRYING to do my elliptical in the afternoon, when it warms up a bit, but am not having much luck convincing myself yet. I’ll keep trying.

Right now my ‘moving more’ efforts are concentrated on cleaning up planters in the yard before winter settles in. I’m going to try to do one planter each day. (We have 14 brick planters around the yard, plus pots on the deck.) Once these are done, “I’ll get more serious about the ellipitical,” – (she said…. :0))

“The one red leaf, the last of its clan,
That dances as often as dance it can,
Hanging so light, and hanging so high,
On the topmost twig that looks up at the sky.”
~Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Fall is my favorite season.

I love it when I am a bit too cool and need to throw on a hoodie to be comfortable. I enjoy snuggling under my throw in my recliner and nodding off when I get sleepy. One of my favorite drinks is hot chocolate. A fire in the fireplace is a luxurious, comfort thing. The colors of the leaves lift my spirits.  I hope we get a good, long autumn this year!

Gardening Know How

I got SOME of the onions harvested yesterday before I pulled one and a gazillion ants swarmed out. Thankfully, I was armed with my new 2-gallon sprayer of Eight Bug Killer and hosed down the planter box again. It’s raining today (Tropical Storm Beta) but I’ll try it again when the weather is cooperative.

Depositphotos

I also managed to file (or throw away) the huge pile of paper sitting on the table beside my computer yesterday. Today I will tackle August bookkeeping. Hopefully, I can get that accomplished today – since September’s stuff will be staring me in the face soon.

“Caught Red-Pawed” – Audrius P. – Bored Panda

My husband and I enjoyed Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad for our dinner last night from REAL FOOD in Greenwood. It was truly YUMMY. We are so lucky it is so good and so convenient for us. I also lost a bit more weight! I looked at my records for South Beach and BistroMD, and I’m losing at the same – if slow – rate. If I live 100 more years, I’ll eventually reach my goal! :0)

Penn Fitness Warehouse

Another thing I love about the fall – I can use my elliptical trainer in our garage in a lot more comfort. My husband mounted a wall fan on the wall in front of it for the summer, but I still end up overheated when the temperatures and heat indices go nuts in the summer. I won’t say I look forward to going out there, but putting in the time is much more palatable now.  My yoga stretching in the afternoons is rounding out my exercise nicely.

I don’t have a big project for the day. We drove the trash down to the bottom of the driveway, and I have load #2 in the clothes washer. The dishwasher is running. I’ll go do the elliptical (hopefully doing 35 minutes) and then hit the bookkeeping. I live such an exciting life! :0)

I hope that things are good for you today.
