God Bless the USA – Lee Greenwood

Lee Greenwood – “God Bless the USA”

Our little town of Greenwood is celebrating Independence Day today. My husband and I steer clear of crowds, so we’ll stay home today. For many years I rented a spot on the square to sell my wares. I met a lot of nice people doing that, happy to see so many people out with their kids, having a good time. The city also puts on a fireworks display.

Happily, our neighbor down in the valley behind us usually sets off a bunch, too, so I can enjoy my “own, private fireworks display”, sitting on my porch with my feet up, coffee cup in hand.

This year is confusing. Greenwood – and I guess many other places – celebrating the holiday today. The actual holiday is tomorrow. Will people get the day off on Monday?

When I first heard this song, chills ran up and down my spine. My heart was in my throat as I listened. The chills continued throughout. This song says everything, as far as I’m concerned. I still get chills. I hope you enjoy it, too.

A Heart-filled Independence Day – whenever and wherever you are celebrating.

Lard Accountability

Pin auf Watch-GIFs

I gained 1.5 lbs after eating the delicious Hashbrown Bowl with Sausage, Egg, and Cheese at the new Waffle House in Greenwood. Lesson: NEXT time order ONE bowl and TWO plates, and give most of the hashbrowns to my husband.

That said, it’s the first of July (basically) so I decided to measure and see where I am on my efforts to lose the lard.

From my heaviest, I am down a bit over 27 pounds and 26.2 inches. I am on DAY 7 of my new regimen of doing a session of yoga daily, drinking a bottle of water, and eating a snack (if I need one) of raw veggies and a bit of dip.

PLANS-

  • Keep on keepin’ on
  • Add some work with weights starting next week, MW&F
  • NOT beat myself up for having one splurge meal, even though it will take time to get that added weight off.
  • Try to fine tune my eating so I’m not unconsciously adding calories I don’t need.
  • Measure again August 2nd and record
  • Take one day at a time, making goals for the week to give myself direction

Eater’s Remorse

Giphy

I had a Waffle House Hashbrown Bowl with Sausage, Egg, and Cheese for lunch today. My husband also had one.

Waffle House Sausage, Egg & Cheese Hashbrown Bowl Nutrition Facts

Serving Size1 order

Calories From Fat540
Amount Per Serving% Daily Value*
Total Fat60g92%

Can we all say, “oh, that was delicious, but, UGH!” together?

If we go to the Waffle House again, I will find something without the hashbrowns, or we’ll order ONE bowl and then two plates. Or, better yet, “I” can have a grilled chicken salad. You can ask for the salad dressing on the side and no croutons for a lower fat and carb salad.

Needless to say, I had a nap this afternoon and still feel really sluggish.

Back on the horse tomorrow….

Some Days are Like This

jalopnik.com

We got a return code from Amazon for the printer cartridge package – which meant we had to drive to Ft. Smith to the UPS Store. My husband decided he wanted to take the Vette. We got to Greenwood and the ‘check engine’ light came on. We talked about it, and decided to go back home and regroup.

My husband thought we should just each take a vehicle and we could leave the Vette at the service place in Ft. Smith. I reminded him that we had to have an appointment the last time we needed them to look at things. We called and are now scheduled to take it in next Wednesday morning.

We got into the truck and started out again. Of course the “70% chance of rain” kicked in. We had lots of traffic, pretty heavy rain, road construction, etc., but we got to the UPS Store and left the package with no problem. My husband thinks he ordered the right printer cartridges this time, so hopefully that will soon be a PAST problem.

On the way home, we decided to try the new Waffle House that opened recently in Greenwood. We each had a “hashbrown bowl with sausage, egg and cheese.” It was good, but we decided that the next time we go, we’ll order ONE of those and two bowls. It was too much food and was pretty expensive for a breakfast or lunch for us. Dividing one order should work just fine.

It’s STILL raining two hours after we started out this morning and shows no sign of letting up.

My husband is going to use the diagnostic tool he has for automobiles and see if it will tell us why the Vette is displaying the ‘check engine’ light.

And so the day goes.

Thoughts on a Thursday 7-1-2021

telegraph.co.uk

We are overcoming some challenges here this morning. Our mailman drove up to hand-deliver our mail this morning because we got a package of toner cartridges we ordered. When we tried to replace the cartridge we needed in our color printer, it didn’t fit. After some research my husband was going to reorder, and we were setting up to return and replace.

I asked about paperwork, and my husband produced a copy of the order. I read it carefully and discovered he had ordered for our Brother black and white, rather than our HP Color printer. He was just about to order when I mentioned that. He would have made the same mistake again, so it was worth it, even though he was exasperated by my interruption. Once we get this out of the way, we can get on with our day.

We’re due to get rain today. We were due yesterday, but only got a few drops. It’s quite overcast, so who knows? I plan to start painting the “Belly Vested Whapadoo” today. My husband re-welded the head back on, and I finished cleaning him, so I can start re-painting him today.

Striving

The Little Engine That Could

This was a classic book when I was a child. It’s all about striving – trying to reach a goal. The little engine kept striving, all the while saying, “I THINK I can, I THINK I can…” finally reaching the top of the hill due to never giving up and his fierce determination.

I’m ‘thinking I can’ now, on DAY 5 of my new regimen of eating right, raw veggies and a bit of dip for an afternoon snack, a bottle of water, and yoga each afternoon in an effort to lose my lard. I lost a bit yesterday, so that’s encouraging.

I also FEEL a bit better due to the yoga. Some of the positions are getting a bit easier. I’m able to slowly stretch a bit more. Some things will take some time. WHEN I make it to Monday of next week – with my daily yoga practice – I’m planning to add some work with dumbbells to my yoga practice Mon, Wed, and Fri.

Funny Guard Dog

Amber is a 95-pound yellow lab. She thinks she is a ferocious guard dog. I don’t really think she gets the idea, though.

Instead of barking, she greets everyone who comes to the house with tail wagging, wanting to get up on them and give them a kiss or two. (She might bowl them over while doing that, but her intentions are to LOVE, not DEFEND.

She will run like a nut after a rabbit or other critter in the yard, but she’s never come close to catching anything – leaving that job to Abby, our cat.

She routinely sits on her bed in the living room late in the evening, when we’re watching TV or reading, suddenly growling or barking – scaring us to death. There is never anything that she is growling or barking AT – and we have to encourage her NOT to do it.

Last night she was in the office with me. Suddenly she was growling and barking – looking at the stairs to the second floor. When I got up to go with her and check out what the problem was, I had to laugh. I had ‘walked’ a big ‘package’ of bottled water up the stairs and left it at the top, to be taken into our bedroom when we went up for the night. Amber saw that at the top of the stairs, recognized that she didn’t normally see that there, and freaked out.

SO – our guard dog was great at defending us from the bottled water. We can rest easy.

Shall We Dance?

de.pinterest.com – purpleclover.com

Music and dancing make you feel ageless.

I know that when I hear music I first heard when I was a teenager, it takes me back. The years fall off. I feel GREAT. My heart fills, I jump up, and my body moves. Listening and reacting to music can be therapy. Making music is an art.

I hope you listen, sing, dance, and play!

Attitude

LoseWeightFast-blogger

Today is DAY 4 of my new motivation to lose my lard and increase my flexibility and stamina.

I’m feeling good about things, even though I didn’t shed any weight yesterday. I will ‘keep on keepin’ on,’ one day at a time, looking at each one as a day to maybe lose a bit and work on getting stronger.

Tenor.gif

I’m doing my yoga-snack-water thing each afternoon. I have some sore stomach muscles in particular, a sign that my body recognizes a change. That’s GOOD. I’m finding it easier to get out of my chair, get my yoga mat and get started. Once I finish, I get my husband his bagel with cream cheese, chives, and onion, and I get MY snack of some raw veggies and a bit of dip, plus a bottle of water.

My husband, of course, isn’t even trying to lose weight at this point, or exercise, but is ahead of me on weight loss. I’m trying to be adult enough to realize that each person is different, that men seem to lose weight more easily than woman, and hitting him in the mouth won’t solve my problems. :0)

I have my desk calendar set up to get my stars for doing what I should today, and it makes me smile when I earn them.

I am feeling more in control of my habits and I’m pleased I’m doing some good things for my health.

Refurbishing Progress

Our “cleaning robot” is finished and ready to be put back in place. We will do that later and I’ll take pics for share with you.

Meanwhile, I’m now working on TWO pieces simultaneously.

We call this the “Belly Vested Whapadoo”

As you can see, he needs a lot of work. My husband came out to give me moral support. He steadied the ‘bird’ as I started the cleaning. All of a sudden, his HEAD fell off!

While my husband reattached the head, I switched to another piece. It was a smaller “shovel bird” that we use as a bird feeder in the front flower planters. We also drilled some holes in the shovel for better drainage.

I got about half of the shovel bird piece painted yesterday. I’ll finish that today, and then get started again on cleaning the Whapadoo.

Pics of the “Cleaning Robot” to follow.

Baby Steps – In the Right Direction

MakeAGif.com

I accomplished my goal of losing 2 lbs. last week. I am almost to my goal of reaching the 30-pounds-off-from-my-heaviest weight landmark. I am happy that I’m making some progress toward my goal of losing my lard and getting as strong and flexible as I can.

I did my second yoga practice yesterday. My husband was encouraging, though he has no appreciation for how stiff, sore, and inflexible this old lady can get. He asked me if I were having an easier time of it. I had to tell him that SOME of the positions were a bit better, but some were more difficult, because I hadn’t been practicing as I should – that it would probably be at least Sunday of THIS week before I felt much difference. He is encouraging me – as HE stretches out for a nap in his chair – :0) – and that is good motivation, too.

I feel calm, happy that I am now on the way to being healthier, am practicing good eating habits and exercising. One day at a time. Baby steps – in the right direction.
