This is probably not new, but it’s a new idea for me.

I’m going to stay busy (as usual, but more emphasis). Then, when I think I’m hungry, I’ll drink a bottle of water and wait a while. If I’m STILL starving, I’ll eat a careful snack. Fingers crossed.

Thoughts on a Friday 8-20-2021

Franklin Silvoira – flicker.com

I love this giraffe.

YARD – My sanity may be waning. I’m really trying to tackle the waist-high grass and weeds that have taken over behind the shop and beside the garden. When it’s not raining and dry enough to work, the heat index is 100+. ARRGGHHHH!

Yesterday morning I did get a start on it. The first part of the project is trying to ‘free’ the 250 gallon propane tank out there. It’s almost buried with all the high grass around it.

The reason that I have this project is that, due to the guy wire making one corner of the garden fence border secure being in the way, my husband can’t mow this area. (actually, he DID do it once, being hard-headed in the extreme. He got the grass cut, but had tears and rips in his arms and on the side of his head from forcing his way through the small opening while on the mower – and then back out again – while I was occupied elsewhere. I ripped him a new one while cleaning up his wounds, making him promise not to try this again. I told him that I would use the weed whacker on the area.

Since I’m a lazy, procrastinating person, I’ve let it get totally out of hand. My husband noticed it the other day, so I’ve redoubled my efforts to get this area under control before he decides to ‘handle’ it again.

It rained overnight, so things are too wet right now. We will go to Lunch Bunch in about an hour and then I’m hoping to be able to do a session or two when we return, though the forecast is egg-frying-outside this afternoon. Fingers crossed.

SHOP – I should be able to spend some time out in the shop this afternoon. I got a bit more done on the Christmas presents I’m making, plus am now ready to start re-painting the dragonfly after making sure the glass is secure on his wings and gluing new eyes on.

I hope that you are having a good Friday, too.

The Art of Paper Quilling

Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. ~ Wikipedia

Here is a beautiful example –

But some people take a beautiful idea and just explode it, coming up with completely new ideas and techniques that blow you4r mind. Yulia Brodskaya is one of these artists. Let me show you.

Forklift

brainlesstales.com

I’m doing exercises with weights 3 times a week. On M-W-F, I do one 3-minute session with Denise Austin online, and then two or three more short sessions during the day. I started out with 5-pound weights, then learned the obvious lesson that I should have started with lighter ones. I’m now using 3-lb weights. My arms tired VERY quickly, so my sessions are short, but I do multiple sessions, trying to making up for my pathetic-ness.

I’ve been doing this for 3 weeks now and am beginning to feel a difference. I’m beginning to have an easier time with the sessions. I am rebounding faster between sessions. I am now doing a session, then doing something else, then coming back and doing another doing exercises different than the ones online, over and over during the weight days. My arms are SO bad that it may never be that others notice any difference. I don’t care. I am feeling a bit stronger, so it feels as if my time is well spent.

Combined with my elliptical trainer on T-Th-S and my yoga stretches daily, I feel I’m doing a good thing for myself.

Thoughts on a Wednesday 8-18-2021

Peter Thornton-GettyImages-JustJacx-Pinterest

I’m dressed in clothes that need washing. I didn’t wash my hair this morning. I was PLANNING to do some weed whacking in the waist-high grassy area behind the shop and beside my square foot garden, then shower, etc.

IT’S RAINING. Maybe it will stop and dry out so I can at least get started out there today, but I was primed for it this morning, and that doesn’t happen often.

I’ll regroup now, maybe work in the shop on my dragonfly refurbishment and my Christmas presents for friends.

I spent a some time yesterday enjoying Pinterest. I find it very interesting that they have built in some kind of algorithm that works as you look, clicking on things that interest you. You click on an image of a man with muscular arms, for example, and lo and behold, more show up as you scroll. :0) I don’t mind that a bit. Happily, I couldn’t care less what the site learns about me, unlike other sites, where I’m much more careful. Yesterday I spent a really nice amount of time enjoying the talents of people on the “Every Country Has Talent” shows. I’m a sucker for people unknown to the public at large, and maybe shy and un-star-like shocking everyone with a voice that knocks your sucks off, or another talent you didn’t expect. I’m also a sucker for emotional reunions, such as between wives or children and veterans returning. Just can’t get enough of that. :0)

Pinterest is also the source of art work that I think HAS to be shared. I’m delighted when I find images by someone who has taken an idea no one has thought of before, or honed a skill that all of us play at and bring it to an art form. The world is such a wondrous place, home to truly creative minds and hearts. I feel rich every time I find another.

I hope that you are healthy, somewhere safe, and will find joy in your day.

Weird

americasbestpics.com

Most of the time I don’t think about “age.” Happily, I feel good enough to do most of the things I want to do, and I’m trying to move and exercise daily so that I continue that.

My world is expanding. I love to learn new things. YouTube is a wonderful resource for that. I’m also discovering other sites like this, and I feel a whole new world is waiting. We heard about Rumble and Substack, and our son told us about Bitchute and Odysee. I’ve bookmarked them, but haven’t made time yet to explore and decide what I think.

Art techniques demonstrated on YouTube make my mouth water. I saw one a couple of days ago called, “Dutch Pour,” a delicious injection technique a lady used to create a fabulous design with acrylic paint.

Emjay’sandthem’s blog

I feel old when –

  • the latest heartthrob turns out to be young enough to be my son – or worse (I refuse to feel guilty, though. I ain’t dead yet! :0)
  • the people on the news are again talking about the “elderly,” – and they mean ME! :0(
  • I get up from my recliner to take care of business after drinking my 4 bottles of water during the day and it takes me several steps to loosen up enough to walk without limping.
  • My wonderful massage therapist remarks that I sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies – snapping, crackling, and popping as she works her magic.

I’ll declare victory each morning I wake up!
