I am Frustration Personified

It will probably be next week before I post anything much. My computer suddenly crashed yesterday. My husband – computer guru that he is – did everything he knew how to do – which is considerable – but we ended up taking it to Best Buy to see if they can resurrect it.

He doesn’t think they will be able to, so in the meantime, he’s ordered a motherboard for a spare computer we might be able to get going.

Meanwhile, we got the laptop we had in the shop for our metal critters and have set it up. We attached my good keyboard to it, so I’m not going nuts trying to type on the laptop’s keyboard. It took us all the rest of the day yesterday and evening to get the Windows updates on the laptop, and email going. This morning my husband got our password safe to work so I could get on HERE.

I don’t have access to much, and I had to change screens over and over to enter my username and password here, so I’ll reach out when I can.

Meanwhile, I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

More Tracing

I’m having a lot of fun adding to the tracings in my sketch book in preparation for practicing trying to add fur or feathers to drawings. I wasn’t sure I would use the new 4LED Tracing board I got enough to warrant the purchase, but I’m really enjoying being able to plug it into my computer in the office where I can work on stuff and not ‘lose myself’ upstairs. We can go shopping in the middle of a tracing, or I can stop when I’m working on transferring the tracing to the sketchbook. I can do things I need to do and have fun at the same time. :0)

Playing in my Art Room

Mairtown Kindergarten

I added the “Thumbelina” note card package added to my ArtFire and Etsy shops a few minutes ago.

Now I’m going to go upstairs and play in my art room, working on the stationery and the thank you notes in the same theme.

My good friend, Marsha, suggested I do some thank you notes for boys – “Thumbys.” Please tell me what you think of the idea. I could add a bow tie instead of the hair bow, and lose the eyelashes.

Yea or Nay?

“Thumbelina” Note Cards

I’ve had great fun working on these “Thumbelina” note cards.  They come in a set of 5 cards with corresponding envelopes. This is the front of one. The inside, of course, is blank for your message.

Here is the back of the card.

Here is the envelope.

Each card is different, and the colors of the note cards will be different for each set.

These can be used for special occasions, holidays, or ‘just because.’

They make me smile when I look at them.

These will be listed on LindaLewis on ArtFire

and CreativeArtwks on Etsy

tomorrow.

These will also be available as stationery and thank you notes. Pics to follow.

Reluctant Writer?

Do you have a child, grandchild, niece or nephew that drags his or her feet when asked to write a thank you note for a gift received?

I just added these to my Etsy and ArtFire shops –

A good friend of mine suggested that I offer the option of themes, such as cat lovers, to my thank you note cards in order to encourage kids to write thank yous for the gifts received. I think this would be a FUN way to encourage kids to write a personal note when they can choose from 5 designs with their name on them. Bright, colorful, cartoony – many of them with a 3-dimensional touch, like glitter glue collars, string whiskers, etc. Tell me what theme you would like, plus a name, and I’ll do my best to make both your relative AND the gift giver smile!  $14.99 for the set of 5 with free shipping in the contiguous United States.

For flower lovers, I offer this group of 5 hand-painted, personalized thank you note cards. These are mostly ‘flowers-that-exist-only-in-my-own-mind,’ and I have great fun painting different styles and colors. These are watercolor or acrylic with pastel backgrounds. Personalization at no extra charge. It’s FUN for children or adults to send a special thank you with their name on it – even if they have to write a short note to go with it. The child smiles, choosing which floral design to use. The recipient smiles, feeling special and appreciated. Win/win!  $14.99 for the set of 5 cards and envelopes and FREE SHIPPING to the contiguous United States.

Lemon Rosemary Chicken

I’ve gotten really lazy on food prep lately. My excuse is that I’ve been working in the yard each day, trying to get our flower planters ready for winter. When I come in, my energy is gone. All I want is for my hubby to put more ‘stuff’ in my dry, tired, gritty eyes and take a nap. By the time I’m functional again, it’s ‘too late’ according to my inner time clock to fix what we should be eating. This excuse and rationalization is stupid, but I decided today to change my ways a bit.

I just started some chicken breasts in the crock pot, following a new rosemary lemon chicken recipe. She wanted me to put a whole chicken in there, but I had chicken breasts. I’m not sure if the recipe will stand the change, but I thought it was worth a try. We’ll have those with some steamed broccoli tonight.

If it turns out well, I’ll share the recipe with you.

Answer to a Craving

We’ve been eating low carb for several years now. Mostly we do well, but every once in a while, we get a craving for something we should be avoiding.

Lately it’s been bread and waffles.

Happily, I found something that will help us a LOT.

Bob’s Red Mill Low Carb Bread Mix

allows me to enjoy a sandwich – a real treat. I can roll up a slice around a hot dog,  or cut a slice in two and toast some for garlic bread. 5 net grams per slice. 130 calories. 0 sugar.

My dog also endorses it highly, having sneaked into the kitchen and grabbed it off the counter one time and the very back of the stove top the second before we installed a walk-through gate that bars him from the kitchen.

and Bob’s Red Mill Low Carb Baking Mix.

The baking mix can be used for muffins, pancakes, waffles, and more. Last night I made waffles for the first time in almost 3 three years. (It took me half an hour searching the pantry before I finally found our waffle iron!)  I had to add a bit more cream than the recipe called for to get a good consistency for waffles. Even my husband said they were good.

  • 8 net grams carbohydrates for 1/2 cup.
  • 120 calories
  • 1 gram sugar

On the waffles we used Maple Grove Farms Low Calorie, Sugar-Free Maple Flavored Syrup. For a 1/4 cup serving, it was

  • 6 grams carbohydrates
  • 5 grams sugar alcohol
  • 15 calories

It’s nice to be able to ‘splurge’ without having to feel guilty. :0)

Rain – Ahhhhhh!

SheKnows

I feel as if I woke up on a different planet this morning. It’s 73 degrees F. and raining! Ahhhhh!  A beautiful beginning to August. A much-appreciated gift from Mother Nature. You can hear all the plants saying, “Ahhhhh!” as you walk around outside.

Looking at the forecast, it looks as though I’ll need to reschedule my planned spraying of weed killer until further notice, since the bottle says to do it on a calm day where there will be no rain for at least 24 hours. I couldn’t be happier about the reason for the delay.

I hope you’re getting some welcome relief from the summer’s heat today.

The Gruesome Foursome

I got my newest fish from Petco last Sunday. So far, everyone seems healthy.

When I lost my last fish, I emptied everything out of the bowl, treating the bowl itself with hot water and bleach, and the decorations with hot water and vinegar. Then I used aged water to fill up the bowl. I have no clue why I lost the last ones. I got them from WalMart and I’m beginning to think maybe the fish in that one tank weren’t as healthy as I had hoped. It was either that, or the environment I was providing, so I decided to get everything super clean and then get the fish elsewhere.

I got four small goldfish. They were really swimming fast in the tank at Petco, and even the guy who worked in that department all the time had trouble catching them with his net. I haven’t named them, but they are so much alike that it’s hard – if not impossible – to tell them apart. One may have a little more red that the others.

I’m keeping two gallons of aged water ready for each cleaning now, rather than using water from the tap and putting in the treatment stuff.  I’m holding my breath and keeping all appendages crossed that the combination of the new source for the fish and my intense cleaning of everything will do the trick this time.

They are really reacting to my voice when I feed them. They start swimming really fast in anticipation of the food being sprinkled in. :0)
