We have found – as we age – we have trouble remembering stuff. Sometimes we’re trying to remember when something happened, when we bought something, how old something is, what brand of ____ did we buy?
My husband came up with an idea that has helped us MANY, MANY times. He started a spreadsheet on the computer several years ago (maybe 15 or 20 now). When he thinks something is important, or he just wants to remember it – he goes to the spreadsheet he creatively named, “Log” :0) and types in the date and what he wanted to remember. Since it’s in spreadsheet form, it’s searchable.
For example, he wanted to know when I had my cataract surgery this morning. I had no clue, other than it was several years ago. He went to the log, typed in ‘cataracts’ and came up with September of 2012 in less time than I can type this. That got us on a discussion of other surgeries, and he could give me dates for each.
Rarely we get in a fight with someone who wants to charge us for something we didn’t order, or say we didn’t return something, or similar financial thing. It goes on the log, too. This has helped us MANY times. We can come up with the name of the person who told us – for example – my husband didn’t have to go up on our two-story roof to uninstall the dish so that it could be returned. When they wrote us they were going to charge us $99.00 next month because we hadn’t returned that part, we came up with the name of the person and a copy of the email that told us we didn’t have to.
Sometimes we want to know the name of the new rose-bush we planted. It’s in the log – what the name of it is and when we planted it. (The newest rose-bush is called “Sedona”)
You’d think it would take a long time to do this. It really doesn’t. And it’s a lifesaver for us.

I told you that I had a delightful surprise recently of getting two orders for my work in the space of 10 minutes. That happens quite rarely, and I’m still walking a bit above the ground. One of the orders was for a St. Patrick’s Day one-of-a-kind wooden plaque. The other was for a package of watercolor note cards and a package of deckled edge painted stationery and envelopes. The above picture gives you an idea of the note cards. Each is different, accented with pastels and initialed.
There are 10 different designs with correspondingly painted envelope flaps.
Here is a sample of the deckled edge painted stationery and corresponding envelope. Again, 10 different designs in the package.
Also included are 10 blank deckled edge sheets to use for longer letters. Personalization of each sheet or note card and envelope is included at no extra charge.

(I’m on the left. My husband is on the right.)
We’re having a wonderful, quiet Christmas Day. We’re hoping that our son will call from Thailand some time today. That will make it perfect.
I cooked our big dinner last night – turkey breast, mashed potatoes with gravy, deviled eggs, and jellied cranberry sauce. It scared me when I started to cook the turkey breast, though, because it was labeled, “Cajun Style.” I thought, “Uh – Oh!” We can’t handle ‘hot,’ or really spicy. Happily enough, it was delicious!
We’ll have turkey sandwiches today, and some more cranberry sauce, since it’ll be a year before we’ll enjoy that much sugar again.
As always, I put up the Christmas cards we received, hanging them up on our stair uprights, interspersed with some wooden snowflakes I painted. It makes me feel surrounded by good friends and family for the holidays. Soon I’ll take them down, reread the notes, and write again to those who sent us news to which I want to respond. A happy time of the year!
I hope you’re having a wonderful celebration, surrounded by family and friends, eating good food, laughing and catching up.
May 2017 be a wonderful year for you!

This was posted by Morgen Marshall on Facebook recently and it simply blew me away.
I already think that canning is an art. I had the privilege of watching my friend, Kay Nelson, can green beans and then tomatoes, using the pressure cooker method and the boiling water method respectively, recently. I was busy listening, watching, and taking notes as she seemingly effortlessly processed the fresh food. I have the equipment now, but I haven’t actually canned anything yet.
The picture above is simply wonderful. These are almost too pretty to even think about eating, though it would be a waste not to. There are so many creative people in this world. My mind boggles.
