Some New Earrings

This new batch of earrings is a combination of hand-painted super light-weight wooden shapes with accents from nice beads from my jewelry collection.  the top one is a 3-D wooden disc painted a nice, deep blue and then a dangle made of two blue beads and a gold bed.

This is a teardrop shaped wooden piece with natural pearl beads as accents.

Red teardrops with added accent of chunky red and black beads on chains.

Round aqua wooden discs with pretty little aqua beads on chains as accents.

White 3-D disks with a group of festive, Christmas-y looking multi-colored metal beads as accents.

I have 5 more pairs to add tomorrow. If you would like to know more about these pairs, or want to see other choices, the website is called, “EyecatchingEarrings

Sassy Glass By Linda on Etsy

I finally got my new shop open. It’s called Sassy Glass by Linda

There are cylindrical vases, round vases, etched, and painted. There are iced tea glass sets, wine goblets, and champagne flutes. There are bud vases I made from bottles I recycled, frosted and painted. Old fashion sized glass sets, fancy one-of-a-kind ‘found’ glass vases and more.

Some are sand blasted in our shop. Then I paint them with special paint made for glass. The pieces are ‘cured’ in the oven, putting them in the oven, bringing them up to temperature for half an hour, and then turning the oven off to cool slowly. This makes the paint permanent. Still, they will last longer and stay bright and colorful if you hand wash them.

Come visit if you have the time and inclination.

Light-Weight Layered Painted Wooden Earrings

I made these today. I would very much appreciate your feedback. Would you wear these? Suggestions?

Thanks.

Earrings Finally Finished

I painted some earrings for myself awhile back. They’ve been sitting on a plate, looking at me, without the hardware on them, for several weeks now. Yesterday I finally took the time to put the hooks on. I’m wearing the orange and white ‘leaf’ earrings now.

There are two pairs of earrings remaining to finish. These need holes drilled in them, so they will take awhile longer. I’m pleased that they are so light weight. I almost forget I’m wearing earrings!

A Spoiled Lady’s Garden

This is the veggie garden of an extremely happy, spoiled woman.

We live on top of a ridge line and had to have some soil trucked up here in order to have grass around the house. You cannot dig a hole anywhere without immediately hitting rock. We made 14 brick planters around the house in order to be able to plant flowers and bushes. Several years ago, I found the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Batholomew.  We cleared a spot, used some lumber to make two rectangles on the ground which was covered by black weed resisting plastic and filled the plot with Mel’s Mix. (peat moss, vermiculite, and 3 kinds of compost). This got around the fact that we had no soil, but it was still hard on me because, other than being older than dirt, I don’t enjoy bending over double for long periods of time or getting up and down from the ground.

Then we read about RAISED BED square foot gardens.  My husband can figure out how to do most anything, so we decided we would build some for ourselves. We ended up welding 6 ‘table-like’ structures where the wooden boxes could ‘sit.’  The boxes are 4 feet square and 8 inches high with bottoms that have plastic on them. We included drain holes so that excess water can get out. We made it so they aren’t just ‘raised,’ they are my chest height so I can just walk up to a box and weed, plant, harvest, add more soil, whatever.

You can see the wire we strung to demarcate the ‘squares.’ I am spreading things WAY out this year because the plants seem to grow together too closely if I don’t.

We built an irrigation system that is on a timer so I don’t have to remember to water or get out there with a hose.

We put a fence around the garden to keep critters out, such as deer. I will add some glow in the dark tape around so that the deer don’t run into the fence. We also put chicken wire around the bottom for smaller critters.

I have a wonderful set-up on trying to grow veggies. I am truly spoiled. I hope I can keep the sweet plants alive during the nights where we get down to freezing!

Playing in My Art Room

The Artful Parent

I told you that I have given myself the Christmas present of time to play in my art room. I had a blast yesterday – cleaning a bit, but mostly playing.

I had to paint this tee TWICE because I forgot to spray it with the fabric sealer. DUH.  I wore it, put it in the washer and dryer, and it came out ALMOST completely plain green again. Thankfully, since the paint is water soluble, the paint didn’t get on anything else.  Here it is for the SECOND time – sprayed so the paint will last.

I also painted a group of note cards using a different technique than I have in the past –

If you’re interested. they will be listed on ArtworthyNoteCards on Etsy.  On about the 27th of December, they will be available at our booth (“Blasing Bright” in our local shop in Greenwood, Arkansas – Rags & Roses Collective, 100 N. Main Street. Hours: 11-6 Tuesday through Friday, 10-4 Saturdays.  The cost at the shop in Greenwood is $9.99 for the package of 5 cards.

More Fun With Unicorn Spit

This is my first try at using the Unicorn Spit Stain/Glaze on fabric.  The technique is very different on fabric than on wood. It’s a lot of fun, though. As you can see from these two pictures. it is impossible to do the same design on each side of the tote, although I used the same colors. I really like the fact that each blending is different. To seal the stain/glaze, I used a waterproofing spray.

This is the second side of the tote.

If you are interested in more information, I just listed the tote in my Etsy shop.

Word Plaques are Up on ArtFire

I’ve had such fun making these!  The Unicorn Spit Stain/Glaze is really fun. There is the fun of finger painting, where you can just dive in and have fun with the colors. I added some webbing paint and then acrylic paint for the edges and the backs. All are ready to hang with either wire attached or a saw tooth hanger.

Here is the URL of the ArtFire page if you’d care to look.

Here is Design # 1

Here is Design # 2 –

And Design # 3

Please let me know Design # 1, 2, 3, or ‘back to the drawing board.”

The Ant Murderer Strikes Again

In our short walk around our yard last night, we found many fire ant mounds again. ARRRGH!

Since I am pretty allergic to them, we take them seriously around here. Suddenly, a bunch of hills have popped up.  I mixed up a 2-gallon container of EIGHT bug spray,

Home Depot

that kills the bugs without hurting our pets or veggies, and started out. Suddenly my husband was there, too, wanting to tote the container while I did the spraying! We went all around the yard, out to the greenhouse, then out to the shop, hosing down fire ant hills all over.

We won the round today, so will declare victory, if only for a short time. We also got the benefit of some good walking, too!

Another Favor?

This is my newest banner for my Etsy shop. I would appreciate it VERY much if you would give me your honest opinion. Is this better than the last one you saw? Do you like the way it looks? Do you have suggestions that would make this one better, or should I go back to the drawing board and start over?  Your help is sincerely appreciated.

This is the latest note card set I’ve listed in my Etsy shop. I call it, “Pastel Color Masque.” As you can see, there are five different designs in the set of note cards with correspondingly painted envelope flaps. The cards are 5.5″ x 4.5″ and are blank on the inside. They can be used for any occasion.  They can be personalized with a first name or initials on the front of each card and envelope flap.

Each card and envelope will come in a protective sleeve, and the 5 card set will arrive in a gift box tied with a ribbon or tie, suitable for gift-giving.

“Glitzy Turquoise Color Block” Note Cards

I have read that turquoise is THE color this summer. That led to these note cards using turquoise as the starting color on each of the note cards and envelope flaps and then color blocks to compliment the turquoise.  I did the color blocks with pastels, then used black pens to outline the blocks.

Since I love texture, I sprayed grey webbing spray to add a 3-D interest.

Finally, I used crystal glitter glue to wash both the cards and envelope flaps to add a quiet sparkle or glitz.

There are 5 different designs in the set of note cards with correspondingly painted envelopes.

The 5″ x 7″ cards are blank on the inside for your message. These can be used for any occasion at work or at home. Just add your message and send it.

Your set would be similar, but color blocks, shapes, and colors, other than turquoise, will be different.

This is the back of each card.

Your cards will arrive in a nice gift box with a transparent lid, tied with a ribbon or tie – suitable for gift-giving.

These are all the envelopes.

Personalization of your first name or initials on each card and envelope flap free of charge.

See this set and others at ArtworthyNoteCards on Etsy.

“Rainbow Connection” on Etsy

This is my newest hand-painted note card set on Etsy. It’s called, “Rainbow Connection.” There are 5 different designs in a set with correspondingly painted envelope flaps (shown below.) They are painted on 5.5″ x 4″ heavy card stock, blank on the inside for your message.

These can be personalized for you at no extra charge. Just tell me a first name or initials when you order and I’ll add them to each note card and each envelope flap.  They are painted with pastels for the background and then acrylic paint for the white flowers. There is a slight e-D effect with the paint.

The back of each card shows the name of my shop on Etsy and my name.

You can find these and others in my Etsy shop, ArtworthyNoteCards

Garden Progress Report

This is a picture of our raised-bed square foot garden.  You can see three of the six wooden box planters. These are each mounted on a metal support we made, making them about at my chest level. They have one irrigation system with an automatic control. Each box has a sprinkler mounted in the center.

This is a close-up of the mulch I spread to try to keep the weeds at bay. We put down a fabric barrier and covered that with wood chips, but that was about three years ago. The weeds were growing up wherever they wanted. I sprayed them with KilzAll weed killer, then actually weeded the ones that were sticking up, and then I spread 16 large bags of cedar blend mulch. I will keep a close eye out for weeds growing up through this.

At this point, with the suddenly warm weather, the lettuce and broccoli are finished for the spring. Maybe I can get some seeds started for a fall crop. The spinach plants – seeds sowed directly in the garden as a last ditch effort – are still alive, but aren’t thriving. Something is eating the leaves and I really think the temperature is too hot at this point.

Here is what I have now –

Celery

Spinach

Cantaloupe

Zucchini

Tomato plants in the long planter

Tomato Plants in the nook planter between the back of the house and the screened porch

Red sweet onions

Plans are to start more celery and more radishes in time. Unless we see something locally we want to plant, this will be it for the spring and summer garden.

Friendship

The Telegraph

This isn’t a picture of US at Lunch Bunch, but I chose it because it kind of shows you we’ve been through everything together over the years.

The core bunch is Kay, Linda and me. My husband became an honorary member several years ago and he now enjoys being spoiled by all three of us, plus others who join us from time to time. He refers to us as his “harem.” We allow him to make snide comments as long as he mostly concentrates on eating while we visit. :0)

Today was our annual Christmas gift exchange. We get nice things for each other and it’s very enjoyable, but it’s not the gifts – it’s the FEELINGS that go with them – the showing each other we care – that are the true gifts.

Every Friday we catch up on what’s happening. Sometimes we have things to celebrate. Sometimes we have sad news. Over the space of some 30 years there is little we haven’t shared. Having good friends is beyond price and something for which I am truly grateful.

Before and After – 11/12/2018 Project

BEFORE –

AFTER –

As usual, I found a bunch of things I didn’t know I had. I threw out a bunch of stuff, relocated other things, then cleaned up the rest. I also cleaned out the basket above and to the right of this that holds the cleaners I use on a daily basis.

I found a mystery ‘thingie’ that neither my husband nor I had a clue what it was, so I pitched it. I had bought supplies I didn’t need because things were such a mess. I now have a bin in the pantry that holds replenishment for the things we use most often.

Now I’m going to go put my feet up for a while – drinking coffee, reading more of my current book, and patting myself on the head before I dig in again on processing our DVD collection.

Brief Window!

Great Performers Academy

I seem to have a brief window where I can actually communicate a bit!

I hope all of you are doing well. We’re doing fine, except for me tearing my hair out that I can’t do my normal stuff on my computer. I have to admit I’m getting more cleaning done, since I can’t access the Internet most of the time.

My husband ordered a card that we HOPE will solve my problem. Otherwise, you may be able to hear me complaining from here!
