“What A Beautiful World” – @abbphotos.bsky.social
This is a beautiful photo with the background suggesting it’s a painting. Just beautiful!

I’ve had a great morning, moving from painting some sketches to working on my Cheetah jigsaw puzzle, to working at the computer, to running a couple of errands, and more. It’s a beautiful day here.
Brian and I will probably go to the cafe. He tends to stay most of the afternoon working while I usually come back home mid afternoon to write more blog posts, catch up on email, etc. before dinner.

These are my latest painted sketches.

Soon Brian and I will find good places to search for a used acoustic guitar for me. I’m missing playing and singing. I haven’t done it for years – and in fact sound like an ill frog when I try to sing along with YouTube right now, but this would only be for ME. I used to sing in high school and in The Student Entertainers at Oklahoma State University to help pay for my schooling. I sang folk songs then, and it was a fun, fulfilling thing to do. I don’t read music and would just work songs out that I liked by ear. Now you can find songs on the computer that show the lyrics AND chords! I’m hoping we can find something at a reasonable price. It would be a great addition of my fun things to do.

Today when I get home from the cafe I’ll do a good, long session of yoga stretches. I opted out of the gym this morning, feeling that I needed another hour of sleep. When Brian and I shared breakfast, I discovered HE had not gone, either – feeling lazy, he said. The yoga stretches will loosen me up and make up for my sloth this morning.

Oh yay! I hope you do get a guitar! I still have mine from high school, that my parents bought me when I was 17. I was a major John Denver fan!

Ah, yes. I still love listening to him, Debra. I gave mine to Brian a hundred years or so ago. He traded it for his first electric guitar, I think, after enjoying it for quite a while. Do you still play and sing?

I haven’t played for quite awhile. I used to play and sing when I was teaching Sunday school, and for my public school Spanish classes I used to make up songs to well known tunes, to teach grammar concepts. I made a little songbook for my class and everything 😂
Then, I just remembered right now, that I brought it to school to teach my English learners how to sing songs like the Star Spangled Banner so they wouldn’t feel left out not knowing the words at the football games and other occasions! I told them this way they wouldn’t have to mumble the words and only sing “the home of the brave” at the end! 🇺🇸 All that was the fun part of teaching to me! 😀

Oh, I love this, Debra. You and I are sisters under the skin. I used mine when I taught 1st grade in the public schools in Tulsa. I made up a song that showed what the letters ‘said’ to teach my kids phonics. They loved it, bopping along to the beat, and it worked! They remembered and then found it easier to put them together into words… I got in trouble for this. My principal came in while we were singing. Later he said, “Ms. Lewis, this is NOT a music class.” (I went ahead anyway)

Well that principal didn’t know much about teaching, did he? Thankfully my principals usually let me teach however I wanted, until No Child Left Behind came out and everything you did had to be standards based. I still did some of my old lessons but searched for a standard that “matched”, however far fetched, that I could have on the board in case anybody came in. 😂

hahahah Smart lady. I taught for 8 years in the public schools, then started my own reading clinic. That ran for 3 years, but didn’t make enough profit to continue. I am happy, though, that we helped so many kids find the ‘key’ they had missed that unlocked reading for them. It was fabulous to see the change in their personalities and confidence.

Oh, WOW, Linda! I never knew you were a singer too!! And I just got done writing a long comment on another pal’s blog about Patsy Cline! I may have to share Max’s blog with you so you can see what a great article he wrote too! Richard and I love Patsy. But I don’t know what , wait, folk! Okay yes. You may have also liked Patsy. I bet you like Emmylou Harris? I loved her too. Okay. Check! We have singing in common too!
