     I would probably cut my fingers off trying to even get near the wood. I’m amazed at what talented, skilled people can do.

       I have played with wood many years ago. And I mean many years ago when I was at school and I did woodwork for a very short time. I only had the chance to make a box. I didn’t get anymore woodwork lessons after this particular year doing it at school. If I had, goodness knows where it might have took me. I still have the interest. But not a room to do it in and give it a shot.
       I had an uncle who carved in wood. He made tables and chairs and other pieces of furniture. All by hand.
       I was very interested as a youngster as I stood at the shed door. I didn’t step inside because I was aware not to being the age I was and I didn’t want to get in the way.
       I would have watched longer and I would have asked questions. But I went back inside the house where my aunt and my mum was, aware of not wanting to disturb him.

         Wow. How wonderful that you knew he was a skilled artisan. It was good you didn’t disturb him, but I wish he had found a time when he wasn’t in the middle of a project where he could show you a few things, answer your questions, encourage you. Good for you for making a box. The only thing I did with wood was wood burning.

           I think when I watched my uncle and being aware of it all how good he was. Not stepping into his shed and just staying at the door. But not for long with not wanting to disturb him, I think was about 8 years old. But I might be wrong with my age. It is so long ago. I am 49 years old going on 50 in May.
           As for woodwork at school, that was when I was 11 or 12.

           I have seen wood burning in art magazines in my 20s. But I have not seen it being done.

             “Going on 50” – you’re still a baby. I’m so glad to know you. I will include a wood burning pic or two on my post today just for you. It was a fun part of my life. I was just teaching myself how to do it when we made the move to Thailand.
