The last couple of days have been challenging. I’m a reasonably calm person. I won’t say, “nice,” because it’s hard to judge from the inside. But I have found that most people don’t have trouble dealing with me.
I have been on my last nerve the last couple of days with my husband. The idea of a hole in the back yard dug by my friend with the backhoe beckons.
Friday we were driving home from errands and it was so hot the dash cam was hanging from its cord when we got in the car. I put it back up and we started home. My husband wasn’t happy with its ‘attitude’, though, wanting it to tilt downward more. I change the thing three times as we drove. He suddenly pulled to the side of the road, yelled at me, and did it himself. I did NOT bite him in the leg, although I have to admit I thought about it.
Later when we were converting fluorescent fixtures to accepting LED tubes, he had trouble getting the legs of the step ladder to close. He started acting like a two-year-old having a tantrum and I told him I would handle it. He looked at me as if I had sprouted another head and then threw up his hands and said, “Okay, YOU do it!” and left the room. I did it and put the ladder back in the garage.
Later, he asked me what happened with the ladder. When I told him, he went to the garage to check, obviously not believing me. He came back inside, saying nothing. Later, he asked me how I got the legs to close. I explained what I did. He looked at me a minute and then went back to reading.
To his considerable credit, this is a man who has fixed things his whole life. He can look at something and figure out how it works, figure out why it isn’t working, and figure out what to do to fix it.
In the past couple of years he has had two mini-strokes. He is doing remarkably well, but he has trouble speaking at times, has difficulty typing, and gets frustrated with stuff like smart phones (which I have to admit are smarter than both of us together). Most of the time he handles the changes very well, even with humor. A lot of the time you can’t tell anything has changed.
The biggest thing I’M seeing is the change in temperament. He has to ask me to figure out how to change which chime sounds on the driveway detector, and this HAS to be frustrating for him.
We’re trying to get the lowest price possible on a medication he takes. We’re in the “donut hole” on Medicare for the first time ever, and the price for this med skyrocketed. I found a place where we could get it more cheaply. He said he would rather write the manufacturer because he saw a deal they were offering. Several days have past and we haven’t heard from them. I asked him about it and he said he had heard from them and put it in his important folder on the computer. When I read it, there was nothing about the special price. He didn’t remember telling me about any prices. So now I’ve written our doc to ask her for a prescription so we can get what he needs.
Whole new “ballgame” and it’s difficult to deal with since I’m older than dirt.

Weather –

This week is just going to get hotter and hotter with dangerous heat indices each day. We’re trying to do our outside stuff at the beginning or end of the day or in really short sessions with lots of rest and water in-between sessions.
Continuing Project –

Since the fluorescent tubes we’ve been using for the past 35 years or so will no longer be produced starting next month, we’ve been forced to upgrade (?) to LED tubes. This means doing away with the ballast transformers in each of our fixtures, rewiring the fixture, then adding the new LED tubes. Since I think there are only two rooms in the house where we don’t have fluorescents, this is quite a project – both in terms of expense and labor. We can’t afford to have someone else do it, so we’re doing it a bit at a time.
Yesterday we converted the two ceiling fixtures in our bedroom. Today we plan to do two in the main part of our master bath. We’ll just keep plodding until we’ve done them all, hoping we won’t have to do this again.
Have a great Sunday.

I don’t know anything about this artist, except his name is Ben. I’m not sure how these are created, but I love them. There is a lot of heart in his work, and of course, the glorious colors and watercolor backgrounds…

We’ve been meeting on Friday for Lunch Bunch for a long time. I was trying to figure out HOW long we’ve been doing this, and it started when Linda retired from being City Clerk/Treasurer for Greenwood, and that was around 1992. (She could then meet Kay and me for lunch.) That would make it around 31 years.
In all this time, we’ve left it that we’ll call or leave a message if we are NOT going to be there on Friday, rather than having to do a flurry of calls every week. This has worked well until our getting a ‘bit’ older has affected our habits.
Kay and Linda can call me and leave a voice mail or text if I don’t answer. I check for messages several times each day and evening. The problem is that the other two wonderful ladies don’t do that. Linda doesn’t wear her hearing aids all the time and can’t hear her phone. When I call her, it says she isn’t set up to receive messages. She doesn’t receive texts.
Kay’s phone has been giving her trouble since she got it. I can leave a message, but she says she doesn’t receive it.
Patty, Linda’s daughter, picks Linda up and brings her to Lunch Bunch if she is in town. She is gone a lot, though, and is a very busy lady. She has gotten out of the habit of letting me know she will be out of town.
We went to Lunch Bunch yesterday, but got stood up. We found out from one of the waitresses that Kay and Bud were having a toilet installed and so wouldn’t be there. No Patty or Linda. So we just ate and then went to do errands.
SO –
I’ve decided to simply go with the flow and not worry about it. We’ll go each Friday as usual and hope that one of our friends will be there. If not, we will eat or not eat and then go about our business. We all love each other and that doesn’t change based on whether we eat together each week. I’ll be happy if they are okay and healthy.

We had quite a storm overnight-into-this-morning, knocking out our power for a very short time. However, I’m reading that a lot of people in our county are still without power. It’s rainy and we’re under a flood watch now, and excessive heat warning later today. It sounds like we should fasten our seat belts.
We’re planning to go to Lunch Bunch later to meet our friends. It will be interesting to see if we 1) have any trouble with flooding on the roads, 2) the restaurant is open and has power, and 3) if our friends come. We’ll plan to hit the local grocery before coming home again. (I would try calling or texting our friends, except that neither one answers their phones or gets texts, so it’s like throwing a bottle in the ocean these days. Getting older is such a treat. :0)
I think I told you my husband decided to sneak out a cut down another tree beside the driveway this week. Each day he’s dragging more of it up to our burn pile. I’m not sure where the tree is. I’m just glad he hasn’t hurt himself trying to tackle this.
I’m not sure about what else we’ll try to do today. I’m enjoying having the front and back doors open to the breeze!

It’s 82 degrees and I THINK has just finished raining here this morning.
My husband did some mowing right before dark. He didn’t finish, but maybe he can do more this evening, if things will dry out. I finished the second flower planter weeding. I don’t know if I can do more today or not.

Before

After – though beaten down a bit by the rain overnight and this morning.
The rainy-ness of the day MAY mean that my husband won’t sneak out a work on cutting down a tree in the “Dangerous Heat Alert” for today, as he did yesterday…
He may decide to substitute that for LED tube installation in our bedroom. I can’t say I’m looking forward to that, but as my mom used to say, “Everything is relative.” This means more to me every day. :0)
Have a fun Thursday.

After – 2nd view
I’m thinking I’ll try to get several packages of zinnia seeds to sprinkle on the cleared spaces in the planters once I finish. I truly love the wild, colorful, spontaneous look of those.
I’m waiting awhile before going back out to tackle Planter # 2 for the day.
I hope your Wednesday is going well.

After the rain stopped yesterday, I had two good sessions in the yard. I re-weeded the trio of planters

that run between our front yard and the driveway that had already sprouted up with the rain and the sun we’ve been having.
The second seession also included weeding the brick planter that faces the front yard to the side of our garage where the elephant ear plants are trying to come up.

After the two sessions and before bed, I took a long shower. That helped, but I’m still feeling much older than usual this morning.
This morning I’ll tackle the two brick planters on either side of the garage pad. Both are terribly overgrown, as you can see in these pics –

I’m not sure how far I’ll get, since we’re under an “Excessive Heat Warning” today, but I’ll take it a bit at a time and rest and drink a lot of water between sessions.
If the grass dries up sufficiently, I think my husband is planning to mow. Then the yard will start looking like someone cares. :0)

5News
Colorful blobs are on the way, according to 5News. My source on my computer says the rain is supposed to stop around 10:30 this morning. I have the doors open for a nice breeze this morning.

I was, of course, planning to weed this morning. I’ll bet Mother Nature is hiding somewhere, laughing at me trying to ‘plan’ my days.

Reactual
My husband just got up, wanting to put in more LED bulbs in our fluorescent fixtures. We compromised that we’ll do some more this afternoon.
