First, we got up over an hour late because the power went off during the night and scrambled our alarm’s brains. I wish sometimes I could ‘reboot’ my own brain as easily as I rebooted the clock. It’s fixed and working fine, now. Mine, not so much. The biggest concern on our getting up late today was getting poor Amber outside to pee. She was fine, thank goodness.
Second, we pass our office on the way to the kitchen. Everything was off in the office – no Internet – nothing. Also, our heat and air system for the house was off. Our UPS in the office was screaming LOUDLY – driving me nuts in a matter of seconds. My husband couldn’t HEAR it! We decided to TRY to ignore it and handle our morning chores and then figure out what we needed to do.
We finally figured out that there was no problem with our heat and air. We were on the generator for power. That runs everything EXCEPT the heat and air. My husband got frustrated with me because I was climbing the wall over the UPS still shrieking. I was threatening to rip all the electrical cords out of the wall to make the shrieking stop. I left the office figuring I would try to find some ear plugs, if nothing else.
By the time we finished the morning chores and had gathered the trash, I noticed immediately on coming back in that it was QUIET. The generator had gone off and the regular public power was back on. THAT meant the a/c was functioning again – thank goodness! AND the UPS was happy and quiet again.
My husband is still working with the TV to get it functioning again, but that seems to be going okay.
SO – UPS is quiet, a/c is ON, Internet is working, TV is in good hands. HOORAY!
Kind of strenuous way to begin a Monday, but it’s all good now – AND I found some ear plugs! :0)
Our weather experts are predicting scattered showers and a heat advisory this afternoon and evening of 100+, so I got out this morning and did another session of weed whacking in the waist-high area behind our shop and beside our garden. You can actually SEE the 250 gallon propane tank now! I also cleared the area around the trash cans where we keep the ingredients for Mel’s Mix for the square foot garden.
While I was out there, I went into the shop and worked on the Christmas presents for my friends some more.
We’ll eat lunch in about an hour, so I have time to cool off, drink a bottle of water, treat myself to another cup of coffee, and enjoy being at the computer before I need to get our meal together. :0)
I hope your Saturday is shaping up to be a good one.
This is probably not new, but it’s a new idea for me.
I’m going to stay busy (as usual, but more emphasis). Then, when I think I’m hungry, I’ll drink a bottle of water and wait a while. If I’m STILL starving, I’ll eat a careful snack. Fingers crossed.
YARD – My sanity may be waning. I’m really trying to tackle the waist-high grass and weeds that have taken over behind the shop and beside the garden. When it’s not raining and dry enough to work, the heat index is 100+. ARRGGHHHH!
Yesterday morning I did get a start on it. The first part of the project is trying to ‘free’ the 250 gallon propane tank out there. It’s almost buried with all the high grass around it.
The reason that I have this project is that, due to the guy wire making one corner of the garden fence border secure being in the way, my husband can’t mow this area. (actually, he DID do it once, being hard-headed in the extreme. He got the grass cut, but had tears and rips in his arms and on the side of his head from forcing his way through the small opening while on the mower – and then back out again – while I was occupied elsewhere. I ripped him a new one while cleaning up his wounds, making him promise not to try this again. I told him that I would use the weed whacker on the area.
Since I’m a lazy, procrastinating person, I’ve let it get totally out of hand. My husband noticed it the other day, so I’ve redoubled my efforts to get this area under control before he decides to ‘handle’ it again.
It rained overnight, so things are too wet right now. We will go to Lunch Bunch in about an hour and then I’m hoping to be able to do a session or two when we return, though the forecast is egg-frying-outside this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
SHOP – I should be able to spend some time out in the shop this afternoon. I got a bit more done on the Christmas presents I’m making, plus am now ready to start re-painting the dragonfly after making sure the glass is secure on his wings and gluing new eyes on.

But some people take a beautiful idea and just explode it, coming up with completely new ideas and techniques that blow you4r mind. Yulia Brodskaya is one of these artists. Let me show you.
I’m doing exercises with weights 3 times a week. On M-W-F, I do one 3-minute session with Denise Austin online, and then two or three more short sessions during the day. I started out with 5-pound weights, then learned the obvious lesson that I should have started with lighter ones. I’m now using 3-lb weights. My arms tired VERY quickly, so my sessions are short, but I do multiple sessions, trying to making up for my pathetic-ness.
I’ve been doing this for 3 weeks now and am beginning to feel a difference. I’m beginning to have an easier time with the sessions. I am rebounding faster between sessions. I am now doing a session, then doing something else, then coming back and doing another doing exercises different than the ones online, over and over during the weight days. My arms are SO bad that it may never be that others notice any difference. I don’t care. I am feeling a bit stronger, so it feels as if my time is well spent.
Combined with my elliptical trainer on T-Th-S and my yoga stretches daily, I feel I’m doing a good thing for myself.
