Still Eating

sent by a friend

Our switch to Mediterranean is ongoing and seems to be good for us, though my weight loss efforts have slowed. My digestive problems have stopped, though, and that’s huge. We’re eating lots of veggies and fruit now, and our lunches are pretty, plus colorful and delicious. My husband and I are both enjoying them.

For dinner tonight, though, my husband requested an old favorite, where I cut up chicken into bite-sized chunks, cook it with onions, mushrooms, and cream of chicken/mushroom soup and spices, serving it over rice. We haven’t had this in a long time. We’re at the age where comfort food is important from time to time, so we’ll splurge and enjoy tonight.

Day Off!?!

cookout.com

While we were getting groceries, we decided to splurge and have fish dinners from the deli. THEN we decided to throw caution to the winds and cook outside on the deck tonight. We got hamburger meat and some big seeded buns, plus strawberries to enjoy with some ice cream tonight.

Our thermostat under the deck top says 100+ degrees right now, so it’s too hot to do anything outside until much later anyway. Hopefully, we can start thinking about starting a fire in the cooker about 7, even though the sun will still be up. The worst of the heat should be past by then.

I’m really looking forward to this evening. We haven’t cooked out in a long time. We’ll have Amber, our yellow lab, and Abby, our cat, out there with us. Hopefully, we’ll be joined by some birds enjoying the feeders being full and some hummingbirds diving around. Sometimes we see some rabbits, roadrunners, or even deer in the distance for a bit.

We have some multi-colored LED lights strung around the inside top of the deck cover, and we’ll turn those on for a festive note. We’ll put our feet up, relax, enjoy a drink and some good conversation.

Ahhhhhhh!

Super Bowl Sunday 2021

The Mirror

The Kansas City Star

I’m not really a football fan, but I love the Super Bowl. I enjoy watching the best of the best each year, both teams having already proven how special they are.

I love the commercials, the special half time show, the excitement.

Most of all, I love a super close game – a nail biter to the very end.

It’s probably a very good thing that I don’t have the money to actually go to a game. I like a close game so much that I change allegiances – rooting for whoever is behind at the moment. I would probably be pounded into the stands by a loyalist from either or both teams.

I love excellence. In sports, in art, in everyday work. I love that people strive to do and be more than they’ve ever been before, achieving great things even if they don’t win the award that day. It makes me proud to live on the same planet.

During the game my husband and I will splurge – all by ourselves – enjoying sandwiches (BREAD!), some chips (GREASY, NUTRITIONLESS CARBS!), and – best of all – popcorn (A FOOD GROUP UNTO ITSELF!) It’s been over 2 years since we have had any. My husband will enjoy a beer and I will have a root beer.

Super Bowl Sunday is an American classic. We ALL win.

And the Crowd Goes Wild…

Pinterest

Actually, the ‘crowd’ was my husband, our dog, Amber, and our cat, Abby, and me, but HEY! – you have to take your joy where you can get it.

We have been eating the things we don’t eat at all – or rarely – in the last days before we get serious about getting the lard off again. Yesterday I made a crock pot full of beef stew. And we had rolls with it. Amber and Abby licked our bowls in the kitchen while we were cleaning up.

My husband said two or three times while eating it how good it was, and a couple of times afterward. Then, this morning, he asked if we had leftovers and if we could have more tonight. :0)

As I gathered trash this morning, I got rid of some more things that we shouldn’t be eating in preparation for our getting serious about trying to lose the lard. We should be starting formally, as well as upping my exercising on Thursday. Right now I’m doing yoga stretches, but that’s pretty much it.

We have had a nice long break from doing what we are supposed to do. Part of me is actually looking forward to being in control again. Isn’t THAT a kick in the head!
