Central Festival Mall – Chiang Mai

This is the largest mall in Chiang Mai, 6 floors of stores, with international brands such as UniqloH&M and a Chiang Mai branch of Marks and Spencers, one of the UK’s most famous high street stores.

Food courts and restaurants, IMAX 3D cinema and 4D theatre on top floor. An ice skating rink, an amusement park, and a kids’ train inside the mall!

Supermarkets, arcades, multi-level central department store – over 450 stores, banks, the immigration center, H&M, we got my step-in Skechers there.

To be honest, we go here as little as possible. There is almost always a huge throng of people crowding the entrances, trying to buy tickets for an upcoming event. They are standing in big, long lines that are very hard to thread your way through to get to the shops.

This place is overwhelming and beyond impressive to me. We’ve been to the banks, the immigration center. We like the H&M and Uniqlo stores for clothing, and I got my step-in Skechers there – something that saves my life since we are shedding and putting our shoes back on a LOT of times in a day. If I had regular shoes, I would have to find some way to steady myself so I wouldn’t fall on my head while trying to observe the custom.

What I find interesting – Thai people can’t pronounce L’s , so they pronounce the name of this mall as “Centrum,” leaving the “Festival” off entirely. They have trouble with R’s, as well, so Harvey’s name is pronounced, “Khun Hawey Yuwis” and my name is “‘Khun Yinda Yuwis” (They have many characters in their language that Americans don’t have and have trouble pronouncing, as well. It’s an interesting and challenging problem.
