We spent about half the day at the hospital. Harvey’s fever is gone and the antibiotic seems to be working to fight the infection. The doctor wants to do more to get rid of more of the ‘stuff’ in his lungs, and we don’t know the results of the A1C yet. They were going to do the procedure today and maybe move him out of ICU and into a private room tonight.

The one thing Harvey said that made sense was that he ‘thought he was going to die this time.” That tore my guts out. He was calm, though he said his right arm felt like it had been ‘chewed.’ It LOOKED a little like that, too, with all the bruising…

We’re taking one day at a time, either going to the hospital ICU, a new private room, or maybe they will let him go back to the nursing home.

These are the two latest painted sketches. The first shows that the Thai people not only work to preserve trees, they actively build AROUND them, as it shows in my imaginary cafe, though I have seen shops and cafes built around gnarled trees. I think it’s great.

The second shows a gazebo featuring an elephant dressed in gold. I took quite a few liberties with this one, wanting to get the FEELING of the place and the honor shown the elephant, rather than the actual dimensions of the gazebo. The actual one had the elephant looking smaller up on a block of cement so you looked up at him, and there were two elephants side by side, rather than only one. The gazebo was very tall and spacious – quite a sight to behold.

My time at the cafe is a lifesaver for my sanity and peace of mind. It’s very calming to go to such a welcoming, comfortable place where I can sit and drink an iced latte and draw to my heart’s content.

Yesterday I had a nice thing happen. A man from India stopped and said it was a ‘beautiful sight’ to see someone sitting and drawing. We had a chat and I showed him some of my stuff. He is here in Thailand with his wife. He makes jewelry. It was interesting to visit with him.

It’s almost time for dinner, so I can’t promise to write more today, but I’ll try.

I’m glad things are looking a bit better with Harvey. They are looking after him well to make sure he is well as can be.

That was a hard thing to hear from your Harvey, I am sure. I could almost feel your pain at hearing his words. It does sound like he is getting good care at the hospital, and that is helpful to see.

I can just imagine the big tree with tables and chairs around it would be so peaceful to enjoy. The elephant in the gazebo is beautiful. You did a great job on both of them.

I am so happy for you that you are able to go to the cafe and can definitely understand how it would be a lifesaver for your sanity and peace of mind. Plus, you meet some very nice people at times. Sending love and hugs to you. Keep going. (Donna)

  3. I am so glad to see/read all of this, dear Linda! Wow! Harvey’s making wonderful progress (I thought I would die in 2005 too), but look at ne now! I know it isn’t the same as I was younger then than Harvey is now, BUT I had a horrible flu like thing, had been healing from asthma and probably detoxing from who knows what from 5 medications and allergy shots I had taken prior to the “bug.”
All I can say is though I had felt completely horrible, even to ask my husband to find me a witch doctor or shaman (which was outside my normal realm of reason back then), I pulled through and my lungs apparently are stronger than ever (since I also lived through two bouts of COVID in 2020-2022). I really need to update my holistic health book OR write a shorter version of it with that as a new chapter and figure out a flashy name for it. I simply want people to know healing is possible—even when we think it isn’t!

I love both sketches, even down to the spirals within your tree! I will save these.
Oh and the nice Indian man stopping to talk with you! What a treat!! ❤️

  4. I am sending you and your husband prayers. I am glad you have the support of your son and your drawings. It is wonderful to meet some one like you did in the cafe and enjoy sharing words. Keep on keeping on! Love to you!

    • Thank you, Linda. I appreciate your prayers. Hopefully they will release Harvey today to go back to the nursing home with his nurse, Pim, by his side. Love right back to YOU, too!
