About an hour ago, the sky turned really dark and the rain came down HARD. It pelted my windows so hard I thought it must be hail, but I couldn’t see any when I looked out. I DID see completely flooded streets – water rushing by like a river – with cars and motorcyclists (poor people!) at a standstill.
Since then, I’ve been mopping up water in my place. It filled up the window sills on the inside and spilled over and down the walls. The floor had some standing water and the bottom side of the rug was soaked.
I think most of it is under control now. I got towels and sopped up water on the window sills, wiped down the walls as best I could, soaked up the water on the floor, and now have two portable fans on high aimed at the floor and the rug bottom.
I can only imagine what kind of flooding people at street level had. I feel sorry for the shopkeepers and people who live at street level who must be trying to do what they can to contain the damage.
This IS the ‘rainy season’ in Thailand. It’s supposed to continue until around the first of November…
That sounds like an incredibly intense and stressful experience. Your quick action to contain the damage was smart and resourceful. It’s sobering to be reminded of nature’s power, and your empathy for those at street level speaks volumes.
Wishing you and your community a safe and drier rest of the rainy season. Take care.

Thanks for your kind words. I’m looking forward to November when the rains stop, things can thoroughly dry, and the experts can come reseal the windows. I’m just lucky to live where I do. I hope people didn’t suffer much flooding.

Wow! That’s an incredible amount of work on your part, Linda! And you’re right, I can’t imagine what the people on the ground floor are dealing with!

Our building did fine. This is a huge system that came from Vietnam. We have a few more days of potentially bad storms. Brian and I are both looking forward to November when we can get our windows resealed.

It sounds like it was a doozy!

Yeah. It kept me pretty busy. I still have the rug peeled back and the fan turned on to try to dry the floor as much as possible. We’re due for 2 more days of this, I’m afraid, so we may have instant replays…

Oh, boy! I bet you’ll drop a few more pounds from the workout you’re going to get from continuing to mop up water! I can see the good and not so good from all of this, Linda.

That would be a good thing! We just got back from running some errands, so I got another walk in today. Towels and bucket are ready… Are you feeling good now?
