Rainy Day in Chiang Mai

I don’t know if you can tell or not, but it’s raining now. So much so, that I started checking for leaks. I’ve spent the last half hour or so defending myself against not-so-welcome water.

First, I rescued my small amount of laundry from the balcony. That is water on the OUTSIDE and it’s expected from time to time.

The part I’ve been dealing with since then is water on the INSIDE. Apparently, we are going to need to hire someone to reseal the windows, particularly in the dining area, but also in the art alcove and the bedroom.

This is not a new condo, and we will be dealing with things that don’t work, repairs, etc. As we will be going into “the rainy season,” from June through October, resealing the windows will become a priority soon.

I took pictures as best I could and marked the places water was streaming down the walls so I have something that may help the experts figure out how to attack the problem.

Brian is helping his friend deal with a computer problem this morning. Then we’ll go visit Harvey. Good thing we have umbrellas!

    • yes. Rainy season starts next month and runs through October, so it’s important we try to get someone to repair the seals on the windows ASAP.

    • Oh, yes, Google maps is fun! I use it to find places here too! And I am still finding new places even after living in New Hampshire for a year!

      • I had no idea of the whole new world it is to use this site! I can type in ‘tote bags – Chiang Mai’ and it shows me where I am, plus places close around me that might have what I’m looking for! Amazing and wonderful and FUN! 😁

    • Sounds great, Linda! I hear you about needing a bigger tote. I was thinking about the one I have (that one of my aunts had made for me) that I must remember to take on vacation with me in July. I rarely use it! I do have a couple of tall square totes that I use for groceries, but that’s it.

      • I had all kinds and sizes of totes when we were in the states. I even painted some of them! 😁. I need one that is large enough to stash Harvey’s Kindle I charged to take him, plus all the rest of the stuff I have never carried before, plus a book to read when we’re killing time somewhere. I will try to find a handle long enough to use cross body style, with a tote larger than I think I will need. I’ll use the nice one Brian got for me as a purse when I don’t need to be carrying a lot of ‘stuff.’

    • Yep! I have one of the totes you painted. Rather my daughter has it. I have yet to see her carry it though! She “saves” things.
Great idea about finding a large tote with longer handles to wear crossbody style though!

  2. Oh yes, it’s always something! You had a great idea to mark the places where the water was coming in, Linda. That will help the repair people, I’m sure!
I thought of you yesterday when I found a small crossbody bag on Etsy! The seller is from Chaing Mai! I will write an article for you and send you the link once I receive the item. Small world!

    • I will love to see your article. I’ll watch for the link! 😁. It’s funny. I’ve started a search for a larger tote bag now. I still LOVE the bag that Brian got for me, but I really need a larger tote for carrying around all I need to carry. It’s jammed full now, with no room to put my hand in to rummage around and find things. I also have no room to put anything we purchase. I’m learning to use the search on
Google Maps in order to find things that are close to our building. Quite an education!

I enjoy reading about your everyday life in Chiang Mai, as you always have something interesting to share. I did not realize there was such a long span of rainy season. Hopefully, it does not rain constantly during that time, and you are able to get out and about and stay dry.

    • Brian tells me everyone carries an umbrella, whether for protection from the glaring sun or the pouring rain. I’m doing that now, too, but also looking for a larger tote, since I should carry a bottle of water, as well as all my regular stuff, too. I have noticed that the sun is shining brightly one minute, and rain pouring down the next here. Makes it interesting to do my hand laundry and hang it to dry on my balcony. I’m now learning to bring my drying rack inside when I leave the house…🤣
