We Lost Abby today

We went out to take our trash down, change the mailbox decoration, and get our mail a few minutes ago. We found Abby on the woodpile in the garage, where she stays during the day. She was still with us this morning and was interested in eating when I went out to feed her.

She’s been a member of our family for 13 years. She had bad arthritis in both back legs and a large inoperable tumor on her kidney. We knew her days were numbered, and I’ve been bringing her inside when I could make time to sit with her and just love her.

I didn’t want her to suffer, and things were just quietly going downhill, but it’s hard.

We have lots of good memories.

RIP, Sweet girl.

Oh my…I am so sorry about Abby. This made me cry as we lost our tabby Thierry who was just shy of 18 two weeks ago. It is so hard as our babies decline and making those hard decisions. We had been treating his arthritis in both hips with a new injectable drug for the last year and a half and it did work well. Unfortunately he had a stroke and there was no treatment for that. I am glad that Abby went across the rainbow bridge on her own terms. She’ll be waiting for you and hubby when the time comes. Hugs to you both.

    • What a beautiful message. I’m sorry for your loss. Aren’t we lucky, though, that we got to share the lives of these sweet creatures? The picture you painted of her waiting for us made me cry. Thanks for caring. I hope you’re beginning to heal a bit, concentrating on all the beautiful memories you made with Thierry. Neither of them is suffering now, and we have to be so grateful for that. Thanks so much for writing.
