Animal Wellness Magazine

I had my monthly massage this morning. I think Lynn Moody, my massage therapist, did the best job ever. She found all the places I had created knots and sore spots and smoothed them all away.

My husband and I fixed lunch when I got home and then I spread out in my recliner under my throw and slept right through the end of the news we were watching. I feel really relaxed right now. :0)

Terry Love Plumbing

I remembered to set my alarm for us to go out right before the first cycle of the watering starts this evening to see what is causing the water on the floor of the well house. (This looks similar to what we’ll be looking at, minus a lot of PVC pipe.) Hopefully, we can figure it out and fix it quickly.

Princeton Brush

I’m about to go upstairs and play in my art room. I’m working on a piece with bleeding tissue paper, pastels, stencils, etc. on a larger piece of canvas board. I may end up with a mess, but I’m having SUCH a good time plotting, planning, and experimenting…

I hope you’re having a good day, too.

New Art Form to Me

Alfred Ipkis – Displate – Etsy

I am completely ignorant about this. When I looked up ‘Displate’ on Etsy after finding this on Pinterest, the page said they were taking a break. I don’t know if this is done with paper, or is done with metal, mosaics, or what, but I LOVE the texture, the layers, and, of course, the vibrant colors in this one. I want to TOUCH it, being careful not to drool…

Shelf Life of a Cat?

This is our cat, Abby, who decided to be companionable while I was working at the computer yesterday by taking a nap on the lower shelf of the computer table beside me.

I started trying to figure out how old she is. My husband keeps a general log on his computer of significant events, so I checked that.

I found an entry that we adopted Abby in February of 2011. We answered an ad in the newspaper advertising a ‘lap kitty.’ I’m not sure how old she was when we got her, but when we took her to be checked by our veterinarian, he told us she was pregnant! We weren’t in a position to be able to take care of a litter, so reluctantly Abby had an abortion, was spayed, and got the shots she needed all at one time. She is now 12 or 13.

She has the run of the house, preferring to sleep in a cat cube on top of the wood pile in the garage at night. She also eats there. The rest of the time she is inside sitting on my husband, me, or the middle of one of the dog beds in the house. She is, indeed, a lap kitty. She is very affectionate, though she has one of the wimpiest purrs I’ve ever heard. You can FEEL the purr, but it’s hard to HEAR it.

Hooray!

My husband has always been our fix-it person. He can look at something, figure out how it works, see why it ISN’T working, and FIX it. This has saved us untold money over the years and won my admiration years ago, since “I” look at things with a glazed look in my eye and think, “Magic.”

He is still able, to some degree, to do this. Two years ago, however, he had a stroke. And then another one later. He has recovered largely, but has trouble typing and intermittently has trouble speaking, etc. He is many times looking at ME, the most non-technical person on the planet, to figure out why something isn’t working and fix it. We’re in big trouble…

Last night he wanted ME to reprogram our two irrigation system controllers in the well house, switch them to ‘manual’ for a test, and then switch them back. Tonight we’ll work on where the water on the floor in the well house is coming from.

This morning he mentioned that there was a red flashing light on the floor under the dishwasher. When we turn the dishwasher on, there is a red light that shines on the floor showing it is on. (This is the one that is flashing now when the washer is NOT running.) I got out our paperwork, but there is no troubleshooting information. I got on the net and looked up ‘troubleshooting’ for our make and model of dishwasher. The only information I could find readily was information on cleaning the filter. Since I didn’t realize we HAD a filter, I figured I should start there. :0)

I actually found it, removed it, washed it and put it back in. The light was still flashing. I held the ‘start’ button for 3 seconds, in effect resetting the system. The flashing light went off. MAYBE cleaning the filter and resetting the system was all it needed. Fingers are crossed, but the jury is still out at this point. I’m declaring victory, though, until the flashing light starts again…

I set our alarm last night so we could monitor our irrigation system. One started at 7:30pm and the other at 8pm. The one in the back started first, so we went out the porch door. There was a deer standing off to the left, watching us! As we watched her, movement caught my eye. To my delight, a roadrunner was running away from us, toward and then beside the deer. I just waited – enjoying the beautiful sight for a minute.

We made some progress on our problem, getting a couple of pvc pipes unclogged and making sure everything was getting water. We still have the problem of something spewing water in the well house. We’ll tackle that one tonight.

The Noun Project

Meanwhile, there is a light flashing on the floor under the dishwasher. I just got out our paperwork, but there is no ‘trouble’ section. I’ll just try to reset the system, if possible, and we’ll see what happens. Such is my life as the new technical trouble-shooter in the Lewis household. I feel overwhelmed by the task so far.

____________

The Artful Parent

I had fun in my art room yesterday afternoon, though the piece I’m working on needs to dry between steps, so I do a bit, let it dry overnight, then do the next step, whatever I decide that is. I’m having a lot of fun.

To Be A Chair

“Everyone has a chair. That thing you are bound to or unwillingly defines you. An element that makes you different from the rest. One that you have little choice in the matter. What’s YOUR chair?”

At 16, she was in a horrific car accident that caused her to live the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Instead of feeling sorry for herself (although of COURSE she did at times) she stood back (mentally) assessed her situation, decided what she wanted to change and DID IT. Over and over again. And is still doing it.

This is a real memoir. Honest. Sometimes hard to read. It’s inspiring because something that could have limited the rest of her life, killing her hopes and dreams, was actually a springboard to all she would do and become.

I highly recommend when i grow up i want TO BE A CHAIR – a memoir by Ryan Rae Harbuck.

Work + Money – FunnyBeing.com

It’s hard for me to believe that August is almost over. I have to admit I’ll be happy to see this one go since the heat has been SO oppressive this year. If it’s like our usual fall, we’ll get three days or so and then we’ll have an ice storm, and then it will go back to Indian Summer… Arkansas is an interesting place to live. :0)

We got a touch of why we enjoy living a bit outside town yesterday. One driveway alarm alerted us that ‘something’ was out there – but not a vehicle. It turned out to be a doe and TWO fawns crossing our driveway. It was beautiful to watch them. She seemed to be totally unaware I was there. Later a white-tailed bunny skedaddled toward the shop when I went out into the garage, and – to finish it out, two hummingbirds at the feeder and a woodpecker on the telephone pole in the back yard. He came down the pole a bit (he sits right on top much of the time) and then went over to one of our weed trees that has a huge pod of seeds on top. I imagine those attract insects, which, in turn, attract HIM. He ate awhile and then went back to the pole and did little hops right up.

Things are quiet so far today. We’ll gather our trash and drive it down to the bottom of the driveway and get our mail. I’m HOPING my Dremel will be delivered today…

Make it a good Monday.

“Skyflower” – FloralisCo-Etsy

Wow. I’m drooling over this plant! It’s recommended for Florida aquatic gardens. I’m about as far from that as it’s possible to be here in western Arkansas. I can still look at it and dream, though. Isn’t it spectacular?

Life keeps getting in the way of my getting upstairs to play in my art room. I’m hoping I’ll get time up there today. I did NOT get my new Dremel, so the glassware is sitting, waiting to be worked on. Meanwhile, I’m having fun with the bleeding tissue paper, stencils, and other media. My progress up there is very slow, but the fact that I’ve managed to get up there at ALL is better than I’ve done in quite a while.

I’ve been eating lead by the bucketful lately and my scales are guffawing at me. The only thing missing is a hand that comes up from the scales pointing a finger at me, or one with a face so one hand can cover the laughing face’s mouth while the other one points at me. UGH. What little creativity I have is being used up making excuses for why my weight is going up and I’m not exercising. :0(

Take care and have a really nice Sunday.

My SIL was asking what “pounders” were that I was talking about getting yesterday. Real art people apparently call them, ‘stippling brushes.’ You pour out some paint, dip the ‘stippler’ in the paint, but keeping it pretty dry, then ‘pound’ the paint from the stippler into a stencil you have applied to a surface.

It’s Friday! 8-25-2023

tatiog.com

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow make me feel like a kid a Christmas. I ordered some things to experiment with in my art room and they started arriving yesterday.

I got a bunch of stencils and a set of ‘pounders’. I’m not sure what these are really called, but they are sticks with various-sized foam endings. You put them in paint and then ‘pound’ the paint onto the stencil you’ve affixed to whatever. I’ve used STAMPS, but never stencils, so this is really fun to try. I’m planning to try to make some 4×6 and larger signs with sayings I like on them.

Also to be delivered is my new smaller dremel tool that I’m planning to use on my glassware etching project. I’m hoping this will be lighter, smaller, and easier to control, with variable speeds.

I played in my art room awhile yesterday, starting on one small sign. There are several steps in these with a lot of drying in-between the steps, so I’m taking my time and grinning a lot.

Even if I don’t produce anything, it’s fun to feel my juices flowing, my head rattling with ideas for new things. I haven’t felt that in quite a while, so I’m enjoying this a lot.
