Poor Stupid Daffodils!

Our weather has been really strange this winter. We’ll have a cold snap, then spring-like weather, then cold again – then a pretty snow, then thunderstorms. It’s no wonder my daffodils are confused.

“Friendship is a shiny thing, a steady beam of light
A lantern on a lonely street, a song far in the night
A smile, a touch of a loving hand, a quiet moment on a hill
And, oh, what a happy little child bringing home a daffodil” (Unknown)

“A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” ~ William Wordsworth

“For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.” – William Wordsworth

“A house with daffodils in it is a house lit up,
whether or no the sun be shining outside.” ~ A.A. Milne

  2. The nature all over our world are going a bit crazy this year, Linda. I hear about both flowers and trees starting much too early.

  3. Weird! I saw a sprout of a Dafodil poking through the ground last week, it was only up like 1/4th inch. Now it is burried under a foot of snow. It is not usual to see anything poking through the ground until late March. Very unusual indeed.

    • I really don’t know what to think, Shawn. We’re having cold and rainy now, but definitely spring-like. I have sprouts coming up all around the yard now. I can’t believe we can go through all of February and half of March without freezes, sleet, snow, etc. But we’ve never had a winter like this, either.
