As you can see, the lettuce and spinach in this planter seem to be happy so far. I’ll need to do another lettuce harvest soon. :0)

When I got home from doing our errands and getting my hair cut, I found that my husband had added to the single iris. :0)

My husband brought in one of our fancier yellow iris yesterday. We’ll have several days to enjoy it, while the various buds open up and smile at us.

Our iris season always starts with deep purple iris. They are almost finished now. They are followed by pale yellow iris, and those are blooming madly all over the place now, along with some mauve colored ones here. :0)

We also have a few very pale coral iris and some ‘mauve’ iris, but those are few and far in-between.

A few years ago I devoted one of our brick planters to planting new colors of iris. Each year I did up some of those and replant them elsewhere in the yard.

I love all colors of iris, but I wish the deep purple and the yellow would bloom at the same time. Apparently, though, they have a system which decides which bloom when, and mostly, only one color blooms at a time around here.

These are two yellow iris from the planter I talked about. They have a really nice, deep yellow color. We also brought in one of the mauve ones.

If I get bogged down, I just go outside and walk around the yard a bit. Seeing things blooming lifts my spirits.

One year I was digging up iris and trying to replant it around the yard. I ended up with SO many plants that I was completely exhausted. My friends weren’t interested in extra iris, so – I’m ashamed to admit this – I threw the plants off what we call ‘the edge of the world’ into the wooded part of our front yard beyond where we try to keep reasonably civilized.
My sloth had happy results! These are blooming beyond the edge of the front yard now.
There is no telling how many tubers I wasted, but I’m glad that iris is the type of plant that practically plants itself and doesn’t need much care. It really lifted my spirits to see them this morning.

I grabbed my camera to take a picture of the entertainment center and the winterized deck for the previous post. Amber, of course, wanted to come with me.
We ended up walking all over yard, taking pics of flowers, veggies, etc. Amber would watch me, then run off and do doggly things for a while, and then come back on her on, or when I called. We did this over and over, walking out to the greenhouse, then all the way across our land to the square foot garden, then back around the house.
Amber is a really sweet, wonderful dog. I particularly enjoy her when it’s just the family here. She responds eagerly – probably in anticipation of a ‘cookie’ when we go back inside – but is truly fun, affectionate, curious and playful. (It’s when others come here, or we go out in public that she tends to go ‘maniac,’ requiring all our tools, skills, and dubious intelligence to handle things. We have agreed that we need to invite more people here, and put the no-pull collar and leash on her when she is allowed to get out of the car on our outings, giving her more occasions to meet people, LISTEN to us, and hopefully, do what we say.
As to what we saw on our walk this morning –
The deep purple iris is fading, but the yellow iris is all over the yard in clusters. My husband is less than impressed with the yellow ones, but the display is very impressive to ME. (Each pic displayed here is a different clump of iris, plus there is more going down the driveway!)

I posted some pics of the beautiful yellow iris we bought from Nanna’s Garden in Clarksville, AR. It had two beautiful blooms on it and two buds. This was several days ago.
I walked into the kitchen this morning and it took my breath away. I cut off one bloom, but –
I can’t believe it’s still blooming, when all our other iris only last a day or two, PLUS the buds bloomed! I can’t say enough about the quality of the iris we got from this lady. I think she grows and sells 1700 different iris. I didn’t even know there WERE that many different colors of iris!

This is one of the new iris we bought and planted a couple of years ago. We bought it online from a lady who specializes in growing and selling iris down the road from us in Charleston, Arkansas. Nanna’s Iris Garden
I saw it blooming this morning. It was supposed to rain all day – sometimes with thunderstorms – so I brought it into the house.
We have some yellow iris around the yard trying to bloom now, but my husband isn’t impressed with them. He says they’re ‘white,’ because the yellow is pale. This one, he likes! And who wouldn’t?
Happy spring, everyone!
