Ready!

I just came in from prepping the raised bed square foot garden for spring planting. My husband came out with a roll of wire and cutters, so we replaced the wires that were broken that criss-cross over the planter boxes, marking the ‘squares’ for planting. The irrigation system is ready to turn on and I’ll install the timer soon.

We’ll plan to go to town Monday to see what is available for planting. I would do it tomorrow, but my husband wants for us to change the snow tires on the truck for its regular ones tomorrow.

The weed barrier cloths cut to fit and held down in the corners with bricks are a definite success. They didn’t blow off. There was nothing to hold water, so we didn’t have to worry about “pools” in the center of each box. Nothing rotted or degraded. In fact, I folded up the cloths and put them in the shop so I can use them at the end of the season to winter over for next time.

All I needed to do today was use the small ‘fork’ to go back and forth over the surface of each planter, picking out the tufts of weeds. They were right at the surface, not “dug in. ” It was quick and easy. HOORAY! :0)

It’s Saturday! 9-17-2022

I’m having a bit of success with drinking more water and trying not to eat anything in-between meals – except for cottage cheese after my yoga practice daily. A couple of pounds have bitten the dust, hopefully to never return. I’m hoping that their ‘friends’ will follow soon. :0)

This looks very much like my cat, Abby, when I do my yoga practice. (Today is DAY 64) She either tries to curl up at my head, upset with me when I put my arms over my head, or sleeps on my feet, making it almost impossible to move them. Yesterday, she curled up beside me and kept batting at me with her paw.

Medical News Today

My husband is sleeping in this morning. I’m waiting for the coffee to be ready. The morning chores have been done.

This weekend I want to spray my garden boxes with SEVEN to kill the fire ants and then KILLZALL to kill remaining weed roots. Then we’ll cover the boxes with weed barrier cloth, holding it down with bricks, and see how it does over the winter.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Wonderful Wednesday 9-14-2022

Tatyana Belozyorova

I LOVE this guy. I want him to come live with me. :0)

We’re having a beautiful morning, cool and sunny. It’ll get to the 90’s this afternoon, but we’re enjoying the cool while we can.

We’re going to see if we can find a roll of black weed barrier fabric to spread on the top of the Mel’s Mix in each of my raised bed square foot garden planter boxes. I’m still glowing over the compliments I got from my husband – who mentioned it again last night! – on what a good job I did of weeding and harvesting. (I’ll try to remember to get a picture of the onions we grew.)

We’re hoping that the weed barrier will keep the weeds from taking over the boxes again. With the tarps we put over the boxes last year, we had to worry about trying to drain rain water off so it wouldn’t puddle in the middle of each tarp. What we did was better than nothing, but didn’t work as well as we had hoped.

With the barrier, the rain doesn’t NEED to drain, except as it normally does, going right through the barrier. We’ll put bricks or stones, or both, in each box to hold the barrier down. This will be a good experiment.

We’ll get our mail as we go and HOPE that we don’t have to stop and re-gather trash from yesterday….

Happy Wednesday!
