sent by a friend

We’re lucky to be having a gorgeous Tuesday here. It’s sunny and is forecast get to the low 70s today! But it’s FEBRUARY! Shhhh!

We didn’t sleep well. Amber decided something was trying to encroach in the middle of the night and started barking. I tried to ignore it, then got up to go down and talk to Amber and she stopped.

We did this FOUR. SEPARATE. TIMES. I’m still fantasizing about tearing her tongue out so she can’t bark. It’s amazing that a dog who looks so pretty and SWEET can drive you nuts. Anyway, we are all up now and halfway functional.

I have to tell you it was a pleasure to be able to fully use our master bathroom last night and this morning. Our plumber’s helper, Josh, was here right at 8:30 and put the new parts in my basin and draining system, then pulled the toilet, resealed it, and replaced the parts in the tank. We’re fully functional again. I have to put everything back under the sink and in the toilet part of the bathroom, but I’ll do that slowly so my back doesn’t yell too loudly.

Pinterest

I did my yoga practice like a good girl. I did a new abdomen exercise Sunday which made my stomach muscles sore – a very good sign. I did it again yesterday and will keep doing it until my muscles aren’t sore, at which point I’ll increase the reps. Did I tell you I love seeing sparkly stars on my desk calendar for my exercise? I will never outgrow that…

We had quite a nature-filled evening. There were deer in the driveway, setting off the driveway detector. When I went out to check, there were also several white-tailed rabbits playing in the grass between our house and our shop and a roadrunner standing on one of the woodpiles. We also heard a group of coyotes singing for a minute or two. It’s really a distinctive sound. Kind of eerie. I have no clue why they do it.

I’m researching modifying the way I eat. I’m trying to cut my carbs way back, but I’m not really strictly following the keto eating plan. My lack of gallbladder makes handling all that fat difficult at best. My plan is to just do about 2/3 of the plan, eating the fat naturally included, but not trying to eat more than necessary.

I have Simply Keto – a wonderful book by Suzanne Ryan – that explains what to do and provides recipes that we already know we like, such as Keto Chili and a breakfast quiche type meal that we eat for dinner. We’ll see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Have a great day!

Gregorio Catarino – @gregcatarino1 on X

This painting lifts my spirits and makes me smile. I LOVE all the light, too.

I slept fine last night, but I keep finding myself staring into space instead of doing whatever it is I’m intending to do. Hopefully, my coffee will make me more alert.

We’re having a beautiful, cold morning here with lots of sunshine. The weekend brought us pretty cold mornings, but the weather forecasters are saying a nice warm-up for the next 10 days. YEA!!!

Today marks Week 4 since my husband’s fall. Last night reminded my husband that he has some healing left to do. He was in bed while I was finishing up. He said he would turn his bed light on, but couldn’t lift his arm to do it, having to roll over to reach the switch. We agreed that he’s healing well, but needs to be mindful that he’s not fully healed yet and needs to be careful.

I’m going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight, making enough for a couple more dinners that can go in the freezer. Yoga this afternoon, maybe art room, as well. I hope that your Sunday is an enjoyable one.

Sunny, Cold Saturday 2-17-2024

Jaxon-danesculptor.com-Louise Peterson

We’re having a nice, quiet morning so far today. It’s freezing right now, but the sun is shining brightly and the afternoon will be 44. I really am feeling lucky about the weather right now (knock on wood). It’s MUCH nicer than our usual Februaries and the daffodils are telling me spring will come here eventually.

Tomorrow marks Week 4 (of 10 to 12 weeks healing time) since my husband’s fall on the ice and resulting broken collarbone. We go Thursday for new x-rays and check by the orthopedic surgeon to make sure he’s healing all right. He doesn’t have any pain now and is getting around better and better.

I hope that you are having a fine weekend.

Happy Friday 2-9-2024

Allen Skyy Enriquez – BoredPanda.com

I hope you’re having a happy Friday. My husband has been sleeping in this morning and just now got up. Amber wanted to bother him, but I managed to keep her downstairs and reasonably quiet. Shhhhh!

We’re supposed to get quite a bit of rain this weekend, particularly on Sunday. We’re pretty well stocked up right now, so we’ll ride out whatever comes, planning – like lots of other folks – to enjoy the Super Bowl Sunday.

Red Bubble

Lunch Bunch seems to be a thing of the past, though I’m having a hard time letting go. I’m finding out, one week at a time, that if I don’t initiate the calls, I don’t get any telling us the others won’t be there. Our situations have made it so it’s hard to get together now. Grudgingly, the end of an era.

My husband just came down. He was wearing a tee for the first time since he fell. I don’t know how hard it was for him to get it on, but it’s a huge step for him. He said he slept well, and thinks he was able to sleep on his left side (his broken collarbone side). I’m just glad he looks rested.

BoredPanda.com

I’ve done my yoga practice three days this week so far. I’m feeling a bit more loose now and not so sore. After awhile I’ll get our mail and go grab some things from the grocery and then get on with the rest of our day.

Hope your Friday is a good one.

There might be a bit of light at tunnel’s end today. We’re forecast to get above freezing this afternoon and the sun is shining. Maybe we’ll start to get some melting today.

The schools are closed again, telling me that the streets in Arkansas aren’t much better than our driveway at this point. I’ve had to ask to reschedule a couple of appointments this week. I hate that.

Though I enjoy staying home, it would be NICE to be able to get our mail, take our trash down, keep appointments, drive to town if we wanted to. I’m feeling very lucky, though, that our water pipes are still doing fine, we still have electricity and heat, and we’re doing fine on food for our animals and ourselves. In case you’re interested, I still have the petition asking that the rest of the winter be canceled and that we move right into spring.

I worked on a pyrography piece in my art room yesterday. I’m still experimenting on which tips to use, but I made some progress on a small sign that has an image and a quote. I’m still at the stage where I have little clue what I’m doing, but my interest is building as something I do actually works. My little ‘thumb and two finger’ gloves are working marginally. The tool heats up enough to use and then my fingers quickly get uncomfortable. I’m trying to learn to modify my technique so I can work longer and not burn myself. It’s fun.

eBaum’s World

I LOVE the way some peoples’ minds work. I snorted when I found this. I want to meet the people who think this way.

I hope you are somewhere safe and warm and that your weather is good, or will get better soon.

Dashed Hopes

My hopes have been dashed once again because I didn’t win the lottery last night. I could have figured out a lot of good things to do with whatever would be left of the $700 million prize after taxes….

We’re leaving to go for my husband’s haircut and to get the mail in a minute. That’s the excitement for the day. Be still, my beating heart. :0)

Actually, I AM thinking seriously of trying to overcome my intimidation over experimenting with wood-burning. All is set up upstairs. My drafting table is cleaned off. My protection gear is right there. Some wood scrap is ready, plus some blank plaques we made a long time ago. I’m supposed to get some thin wood rectangles in two sizes today, I think. I’m out of excuses, so….

I received the latest paperback in the J.D. Robb In Death series yesterday and dove right in. It’s like coming home. I finished re-reading all 56 books in the series just recently in preparation for the new addition. Then, when I finish, I’ll probably have to wait 6 months to a year for the newest – that is released in hard back in January – to be released in paperback. Did I tell you that I love this series? :0)

We did NOT get ‘rain and snow showers’ over the past two days, and for that I’m very grateful. I would be happy with ONE pretty snow that leaves immediately and call that a great winter.

Enjoy your day.

Happy Friday 12-22-2023

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance - aka “Lunch Bunch”

We plan to have a gift exchange today at Lunch Bunch. I’ve told you that it’s iffy as to whether we continue to try to meet or not, due to health and other issues. That’s really hard after over 25 years, so this will be a bittersweet gathering today. I’m hoping to get some pics on my phone. Right now it’s drizzly, but not actively raining. I hope that will hold until we get home from errands after lunch.

I finally got my drafting table cleaned off yesterday and have it set up now so I can start experimenting with my Dremel and my new wood-burning tool. I have a big piece of scrap wood to play with, my protection gear, and lots of space. I found some wooden plaques my husband and I cut out years ago just waiting. I also have wooden earring blanks, plus I ordered some thin rectangular pieces of wood on which I hope to do signs and wall art. All I need to do now is 1) find the time, and 2) overcome feeling intimidated.

I got really NICE feedback yesterday from a lady who bought a painted vase for her mom for Christmas. I’m walking about 3 inches above the ground from her kind words. :0)

After looking at the weather forecast for the next 10 days, it looks like Mother Nature is planning to officially change to winter, too. The highs will be in the 40s and the lows in the 20s – quite a change. Time to break out the heavier clothes!

Have a happy Friday.

Halloween costume for a boy in a wheelchair – BoredPanda.com – Liucija Adomaite and Justinas Keturka – I think this is ingenious! :0)

Last week my husband and I were stood up at Lunch Bunch. No one called. No one wrote. No one came. We enjoy talking with David, the Pizza Barn owner/cook and our waitress, Mikey, so we still enjoyed our lunch. Still, it would be NICE if our friends let us know when they won’t be there. We’ll see what today brings. At LEAST a nice lunch…

We are right in the oblong bull’s eye for weather starting today. We’re just southeast of Fort Smith on this map in the orange blob. Lots of rain forecast, several cold fronts, 5 possible days of overnight freezes, etc. I’m still hoping we’ll get more ‘fall’ days before we officially start preparing for winter.

Yesterday I vacuumed up an entire dog’s worth of hair from our first floor carpet. I’ve used the ‘defurminator’ on Amber, but that doesn’t seem to make any difference on the amount of hair ending up on our carpet. She won’t allow me to actually vacuum her directly…

I’ll try to do a bit outside if the rain holds off this afternoon. Otherwise, I might actually make it up to my art room!

Enjoy your Friday.

Water Works by Sumiyo – Etsy

Good morning! I hope this will be a great day for you.

We’re leaving in just a few minutes for a couple of errands and then plan to have a quiet day after. It rained overnight a bit again and is overcast this morning. The rain is flirting with us so far, rather than giving us the really soaking rain we would welcome, but chances are increasing each day.

Yesterday I thought would be quiet, but we ended up going ahead and shopping at two places for groceries, getting our mail, and then dragging our trash can back up to where it lives after it was EMPTIED by the trash people on the proper day for the first time in three weeks. Being ‘delighted’ that your trash can has been emptied seems like a new low, even for me, but it is what it is. :0) I almost called the nice lady to thank her, but figured she’s probably busy enough without me calling her to waste her time.

I also did a bit of pruning outside, paid our bills, balanced our checkbooks and did a bit of filing. Today I want to do the bookkeeping for September before it’s time for October…

Enjoy your day. I hope the weather is nice where you are and that you have the chance to get outside and enjoy it.

Bright Side

Getting rained on for the 5 minutes it rained yesterday turned out to be a blessing. We redoubled our efforts to get our yard work done. I got the back rock bed weeded and my husband sprayed around the deck with KillzAll weed killer.

I say it was a blessing because we’re under a heat advisory again today, with ‘feels like’ temperature of 108 this afternoon. Since my comfort zone stops in the high 80’s, this is uncivilized, in my opinion. If it hadn’t rained, we might have been more lackadaisical about getting our work done outside. Since we were teed off when we came in the house dripping yesterday, this is definitely a case of time bringing better perspective. :0)

Raising Children Network

I also got our first floor carpeting vacuumed yesterday, so I’m giving myself permission to play in my art room after lunch. I have three things in various stages of completion, plus I want to try out my new engraver on a scrap glass jar to see what I’m able to do with it. :0)

My SIL was asking what “pounders” were that I was talking about getting yesterday. WEATHER –

We’re supposed to have rain very soon, and then storms – some severe – tonight-into-the-overnight. I guess it’s kind of whiny of me to wish we could just have a quiet rain, rather than moving from ‘intense heat warnings” to “Severe Storms Warning,” but I would LOVE to be a bit spoiled for a while.

NATURE’S GIFTS-

I had the gift of two hummingbirds taking their time eating and resting at our feeder this morning. I was in the kitchen getting coffee when I caught movement outside the window. One hummingbird landed on the feeder and just sat for quite awhile, resting and looking around, drinking occasionally. A second hummer joined him, but they weren’t dive-bombing each other. Both just sat at the feeder seemingly enjoying the food and the companionship. Just beautiful!

On the way to town a couple of days ago, a roadrunner ran across the road down the road from us. It was the first one we’ve seen in a couple of years. We usually have a couple we see from time to time in our yard, but they’ve been scarce for a year or so.

And finally, our driveway detector kept going off – just one detector, so I didn’t think there was a vehicle, but it went off several times. I got up to see what was causing it and got to see a doe crossing our driveway, leading her fawns to the west. She wasn’t in any hurry and I got to see her as she encouraged her babies to follow her. Really special. :0)

I hope your Wednesday is wonderful.

HEAT ADVISORY –

We’re under an ‘intense heat advisory’ for the rest of the week. It’s typical for Arkansas to be hot in the summer, but as I age I handle it with less grace each year. My tolerable range of heat has narrowed to the point I have to laugh. Thank goodness for heat and air conditioning and the freedom to avoid being out in most of whatever weather we’re having.

Sololos-Getty Images-iStockphotos

TOMATOES –

I’ve decided to simply work on cleaning up my tomato plants, rather than pulling them out at this point to see if they produce any more reasonable-sized tomatoes. Mother Nature has been in a snit this year, providing some of the worst veggie-growing sun/water/temperature/storm combinations we’ve had in the over 36 years we’ve lived here. I thought maybe it was just me, but my friends’ Kay and Bud have been having successful veggie gardens for years and years and their efforts produced nothing this year. BAH. HUMBUG. :0(

EXERCISE –

I’ve decided to count the stress of dealing with the challenges my husband is presenting as my cardio for the day. If he DOESN’T cause my heart to stutter, stop and start again with one of his sneaky projects, I make it up with my yoga practice. Yard work in the heat rounds out my exercise routine these days, with short sessions, drinking water, and resting in-between.

Dental Economics

I’M DUMB! –

I am feeling SUPER embarrassed today after pulling a really DUMB stunt last night. I cooked dinner and was serving the hamburger patties from the skillet. My husband was being helpful and rinsing stuff and putting things in the dishwasher as I served. “Somehow” I got distracted.

We ate and then I went into the office. My husband came in and asked if I meant to leave the burner on on the stove. GULP. NO!!!!!!!! It had been left on for at least an hour, burning propane. At LEAST there wasn’t a pot or skillet on the burner, but that’s the best I can say. I’ve never done that before.

Every 20 years or so I lock my keys in the car. I’m HOPING that this is one of the things I can say that about – assuming I can say ANYTHING in another 20 years…..

SUMMER –

The heat index is forecast to be between 110-114 this afternoon. If anyone is taking a vote, I vote, “No, Thank you.” I’m going to TRY to get my husband to wait until around dinner time to mow, though he was out walking up and down our steep driveway yesterday while I programmed, trying to get our two driveway detectors to work the way they should. I’ve gotten better at grabbing and wetting a washcloth to put on the back of his neck and wipe his face while simultaneously pouring him a cold drink while getting him to his chair before he collapses. He promises to make better decisions, but he lies. While he’s mowing, I’ll check our tomatoes and hopefully spray to kill some weeds.

ERRANDS –

We leave in a bit to –

  • pick up our mail
  • get a haircut for my husband
  • pick up a paper prescription from our doctor at the clinic
  • grocery shop

Happy Tuesday 5-9-2023

Endre Penovac

People are amazing. If I tried to do the above, my stuff would simply look like scribbles. This person’s ‘scribbles’ with charcoal melt my heart.

We’re having one last day of good – though hot – weather here, followed by endless days of rain every day (through NEXT Monday) according to the forecast. I wouldn’t mind having a BIT of rain daily, but HOPE we don’t have a wash out, where people in Greenwood will need a boat to get around. It’s funny that I tried so hard to get the irrigation system programmed for the flower and tomato planters, just in time for over a week’s worth of rain.

My husband got my heart started with a bang this morning. He was determined to fix his recliner, which he had sprung by being over-exuberant reclining it, causing it to tilt to one side when reclined. This caused an imbalance which resulted in it actually toppling over one time. Anyway, I heard a crash while I was typing and ran to the living room. The chair was upended and the crash caused by a big wooden carving falling off the wall. My husband said the carving ‘grazed’ him as it fell, of COURSE hitting his back (still healing from a previous injury). We got the chair right side up. My husband fixed it. I was able to hang the carving back up on its nail on the wall and helped my husband to the chair. He insists he’s all right, but I’m watching him to see how he does. (We leave for a haircut for him in half an hour, so I’ll find out for sure then how he is.)

I continue to be invested in the American Idol and The Voice contests. I’m catching the clips on YouTube. This is the first time I’ve followed either, though I’ve enjoyed various clips from time to time. Last night was the end of another round on The Voice. One of the people I really liked was eliminated and one went on to the next round. I feel a bit silly caring so much, but I would rather be heartbroken about who wins and loses on these programs than about the world around me being in so much chaos.

I hope that you are having a nice Tuesday.

Good morning!

It’s hard to believe, but it’s not raining. It’s cloudy and 49, but nothing is falling on us. The wind isn’t blowing. No flying hairballs. Just cloudy, cool, and quiet. I’ll take it. :0)

My new veggie plants are looking happy this morning. It’s supposed to start warming up a little bit each day, so when it gets more comfortable outside, I’m planning to prep the brick tomato planters.

We’re planning to have a quiet day today and stay home. Tomorrow, we have Lunch Bunch, and then we’ll hit Walmart for groceries and then see if we can find some good tomato plants.

My brother-in-law sent a video to my husband this morning of their new dog, Jasmine, fetching a toy and bringing it back to him. Our Amber will go fetch a thrown toy, run it back to you, but won’t give it to you. She teases you with it, and when you ask for it, wants to play tug-of-war with it, or decides to shake it to break its neck, dancing away from you. I got her to do it once, but that was it. Jasmine is already doing better than Amber.

I ordered three books from a new author to be sent to my Kindle recently. I just tried to access them and had trouble getting the Kindle connected to the Internet. My husband is looking at it now, trying to help me. Fingers crossed.

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Discombobulated Wednesday 3-29-2023

AcidNow – Cheezburger

I’m feeling a bit “discombobulated” at the moment. I just wished a good friend, “Happy Passover” because my desk calendar was turned to the wrong page. Now that I have written and apologized for my stupidity, I’m wondering if I’ve already done anything ELSE wrong….

By the way, “discombobulated” may not be a real word, but it’s been used in my family ever since I can remember. (I just looked it up and it IS a real word – so is ‘cattywampus,’ if you’re wondering)

GrowaGoodLife.com

It’s forecast to get to 70 this afternoon here. It was too cool to be comfortable weeding yesterday, so my garden boxes remain untended. I’m hoping to rectify that today. I would love to have my garden started by the end of the weekend, assuming we aren’t blown off the Earth Friday with the forecast severe thunderstorms.

We don’t have errands today! I’m hoping to have several sessions outside during the afternoon when it warms up. I need to get the weeds out of my garden boxes plus repair some wire ‘separators’ that were broken during the last season. The irrigation system is already in good repair and just needs to be turned on and the timer installed.

I hope that wherever you are today that you are enjoying a beautiful, fun one.

Windy Wednesday 2-15-2023

I’m still happy that we aren’t snowed or iced in, but we’re facing possible severe weather this afternoon, evening, and overnight, with possible snow flurries tomorrow morning. It’s supposed to be really windy today, too. I would love to have a talk with Mother Nature and see what has her nose out of joint. Maybe I could calm her down.

We’ll need to re-tether our humongous trash can to the pole toward the bottom of the driveway today before gusty winds carry it somewhere else.

I hope that you and your Valentine had a happy day yesterday. Our day was calm and good. My husband and I drove the front half of the truck into our shop and took off the front tires to look at our brakes again. We couldn’t find any problem. My husband shocked me by saying first that we could change the brake pads all around ourselves OR take it to someone to have that done. I jumped on the latter. Once we came back inside I jumped to find someone in Greenwood who could do it for us. We have an appointment for next Monday morning. Hoooraaaaaay! I think yesterday’s session finally got through to him that both of us are a bit long in the tooth to be trying to do the heavy lifting required on some of our projects.

I talked to a really good friend yesterday via email, asking what was going on in her life now. She is now working in Greenwood, rather than Ft. Smith and sounded really happy, with lots of plans for the future. I couldn’t be happier for her and am waiting to hear details in another email. :0)

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Weather Station Advisor

Today rain and a possible ‘wintry mix’ is forecast. We’re going to try to go to Lunch Bunch anyway. We want to splurge on a burger. We’ll also get our mail, stop for gas and groceries before coming home. I’m really keeping all appendages crossed that we JUST get a cold rain, rather than being snowed in yet again. It’s really getting old.

On the home front, my husband is still fighting to get the updates on the shop computer. It continues to fail. He’s on chat with Microsoft, but so far, they aren’t able to help. So I do what I need to do first thing in the morning on the computer, then shut it down, plus the TV, so that he has as much download speed as we can gather to try again.

I’m reading, spending time in my art room, cooking, cleaning, etc., all really exciting stuff while the computer fight continues.

I hope that you are doing well and that the weather is treating you right where you are.

Take care.

It’s 28 degrees F. right now – not really that cold, but the wind is blowing and it FEELS really cold, particularly after the springlike weather we’ve been enjoying. The cold front came through and thankfully the storms didn’t cause any damage here. I’m full of gratitude that we’re good here. My heart goes out to the people suffering from the vagaries of the weather.

I may actually get up to my art room today. I have some ideas rattling around in my head that I’d like to try. :0)

My husband is a happy camper today. Yesterday he was finally able to delete the program he didn’t want on his computer and replace it with a version (after trying 3 different softwares) that does exactly what he wanted it to do. We are both relieved.

I’m starting to think about plans for the square foot garden in the spring. I’ll get out my diagrams of where things were planted last time and start figuring out what I would like to plant, how many plants, and where to put them. A gardener is always plotting the next planting.

Cesar’s Way

We’re due to meet our friends for Lunch Bunch today. Last week my husband and I were stood up. No one came or called to tell us they weren’t coming. It turned out that all were sick. I’m hoping that everyone is feeling good now and that we’ll see them at lunch today. I’ve tried to call both of them, but neither of them is good about checking their phones…

I hope today is a good one for you.

In the middle of the afternoon I could give this sweet rodent a run for his money on eating. If I, like he, could stick to carrots, that would be good….

A storm with a cold front are coming through tonight to take away the happy springtime weather we’ve been enjoying and bringing back more normal temperatures for January in Arkansas – so a high of about 72 this afternoon and a high in the low 50s for tomorrow – still warm but noticeably cooler.

This poor old body is making a bid to be thrown on top of the heap in the salvage yard lately. I won’t give you a long list of woes, but the latest was this morning with the help of Amber, our dog. I was sitting here typing, and she came over to say, ‘hi.’ I stopped, to turn to pet her, and she flipped my arm up with her nose, making the top of my arm hit the bottom of the countertop my computer sits on. I took off my watch to rub my arm and there is already a small knot coming up, with probable colorful bruise to follow. Hahahaahahaha. My warranty is definitely expired, though I’m hoping to do some yoga this afternoon.

I wish you a very happy day.

Good morning! It’s cloudy in Arkansas today, but the high is supposed to reach 59 this afternoon, so I won’t complain. I spent about half an hour yesterday lopping a few weed trees, but mostly trying to cut down a huge bunch of briars on vines in one area. I pooped out quickly, and my right arm was complaining yesterday afternoon and evening. I’m more annoyed about it than hurting – that my body isn’t making it easy to do what I would like to do. I took some pain meds and slathered my arm with muscle gel. Hopefully, that will help me do what I would like to do today.

I have some salmon filets marinating in the fridge for dinner tonight. I’ll bake them, serving some steamed veggies with them. I’ll use the leftovers to make salmon salad. My scales are not only smirking, they’re guffawing as I step on them. Hopefully, I will see some progress soon.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Reader’s Digest

Good morning.

We stayed up watching the election returns, finally giving up and going to bed around midnight. I’m happy about the results in Arkansas, but frustrated that we won’t know the national results for awhile yet, and what they will mean for the country. Another character-building exercise.

We’re experiencing low 80s for a high today and tomorrow followed by low 50s and below, plus FREEZES, starting Friday morning. I’m trying to make sure we’ve disconnected the hoses, put the freeze protection on the faucets, closed house vents, gotten the water to the irrigation system turned off, etc. before the freezes come. Today’s yard work is weed whacking at least in the front yard to neaten up for the winter. When the weed whacking is done around the house, I’ll see if I can plant more iris.

I hope that you have a wonderful, calm fall day.

Happy Friday

Nature Animals

We could definitely get spoiled by the nice weather we’ve been enjoying lately. I regret that I’ve largely wasted it, having to baby my back, and the yard work is still waiting. I AM able to do my yoga practice (DAY 84), so my back is improving some each day. Soon I’ll be my normal ornery self again. :0)

My SIL is enjoying some time at the beach now. She thought she might have to come home, after essentially just arriving, due to an alert about tidal flooding yesterday. This didn’t occur, so she is still able to enjoy herself. I’m hoping for a photo or two, now that she doesn’t have to get back on the road again right away.

Final Fantasy XIV

Today is Lunch Bunch. We’ll leave in about an hour and a half to catch up with whoever is there. Things have been erratic lately, with plans not working out, illness, and whatnot. I’ll be happy to see whoever is able to get there.

I answered a call from a roof and window salesman yesterday. I’m telling you this because we went to a great deal of trouble to get an answering program that screens our calls. It tells the caller to press a button on the phone if they are friend, family, or NOT selling anything. Only then does it ring in our house. This guy had the gall to press the button anyway. He started asking me how many windows we had. I answered by asking if he was a ‘friend.’ He started sputtering. I told him I KNEW he wasn’t family. I asked him if English was his first language. When he said, “yes,” I asked him if he listened to the answering message. He said, “yes.” I then asked him if he really thought he had ANY chance to sell whatever he was selling after having the gall to ignore our message and bother me. There was silence on the other end. I hung up.

Happy Friday and wonderful weekend.

Weed Whacking Wednesday 9-21-2022

BBC

Hi.

I’m drinking some coffee before heading out to weed whack the front and the back yard. My husband is going to mow. So the yard will look like someone cares before it gets too hot to. The temperature for this last day of summer is forecast to be 101 with a heat index this afternoon. Oh, GOOD. I’m SO ready for some cool. My list of things to do outside is longer than my leg now…

DoYou

Today is DAY 68 in my efforts to make daily yoga a habit. I’m starting to think that yoga is essential to my ability to move without pain, stay reasonably flexible, and avoid falling on my head as I age. I still have to consciously make myself do it, but I feel much looser after my practice.

I’m going to get outside now and work before it gets lethal out there.

Have a nice day.

Happy Wet Sunday

I’m a happy camper this morning. The doors are open. The ceiling fan is on, spreading fresh, cooler air all through the house. It’s only supposed to get to 89 today, with a chance of some good rain. Yea!!!!

Today is Day 16 of my attempt to make daily yoga practice a habit. Yesterday I was running out of time and chose to do yoga practice over spending time in my art room – an amazing decision for me! I ended up making a smaller-than-normal space in the office because my husband was watching a rented movie in the living room where I normally practice. The practice went well and I was happy to add my sparkly star to my desk calendar. :0)

Today is the last day of July. My only ‘accomplishments’ for the month are

  • the decision to try to get into a ‘yoga habit’, plus 16 days of yoga practice so far, increasing the time
  • I made 8 Christmas presents for my friends
  • I changed to the Mediterranean style of eating, deciding to significantly increase veggies and fruit
  • My thyroid hormone is under control again (actually took 8 weeks)

Make this a good day!

Busy Tuesday Already

bromebirdcare.com

We just returned from running errands this morning.

We caught raccoon # 7 overnight in our humane trap. He was a really big one. He was docile, though, so we drove out and relocated him several miles away from us. I think this may be a record-breaking year for raccoons for us. The memo has definitely gone out that the Lewises have good sunflower seeds in the feeders. I just wish the raccoons could learn to share and not trash the feeders. We spend a lot of time repairing the feeders, plus we have to leave them empty until we catch the newest culprit in the humane trap.

We left our trash at the bottom of the driveway for pickup, noting that, even with the washed out parts on one edge of the driveway due to the incredible rains we’ve had (12 inches in one week!) the driveway is still in the best shape it’s been in forever. Jeremy Young did a miraculous job spreading the crusher dust for us so we could get down and up our driveway again. We marvel each time we drive on it.

We got our mail, went for a haircut for my husband, a shot for him, and then back home in record time. We’re going to have lunch in a minute and then rest a bit before tackling our afternoon.

Mother Nature is giving us a break today. It’s merely ‘way too hot’ outside, rather than ‘excessive heat warning’ today. I’m planning to mix up some KILLZALL and see what weeds I can murder this afternoon. We’re down to zucchini and red onions in our garden, plus the two planters of tomatoes now. Both are on automatic watering systems, although that seems almost like a joke right now, with all the rain we’ve had. Our plumber is trying to get her this week to arrange line #2 in the well house so we can have automatic watering in the front planters, too.

I got a new book on Yoga in the mail today. It’s called, Big Yoga – A Simple Guide for Bigger Bodies by Meera Patricia Kerr. It provides a gentle program for a healthier body, greater flexibility, and a peaceful mind. Since I’m both older than dirt and have a larger-than-I-would-like body, I’m going to dive into it and see what I want to add to the half hour of “Gentle Yoga” positions I’m doing that I learned from Cat Kabira in her wonderful DVD.

And that’s my morning. Have a wonderful afternoon!

Fun Friday

Slonice Santi-pepadanafelting.blogspot.co.uk

I’m in awe of people who create ‘felted’ animals. SO much patience and talent involved. This elephant melts me into a puddle.

This is a happy Friday.

First, the weather, which has been so challenging lately, is truly beautiful. Our high temperature is supposed to the in the 70’s today with lots of sunshine! We JUST celebrating the last of the ice on our driveway. It’s still in the ditches along the north sides of the road to town, but it’s finally gone otherwise. I happily waved, ‘bye-bye’ to it. :0)

I immediately wanted to go get some plants, but will need to be careful to watch for freezes in the next couple of weeks if I do find plants to put in my square foot garden.

We have Lunch Bunch today. If all goes to plan, all of us except one will be there today for the first time in about 3 weeks or so. It’ll be great to catch up with our friends.

After, maybe we’ll check to see if there are early spring plants available. I’m particularly looking for lettuce, spinach, and broccoli. We’ll see.

I am actually caught up with all the pesky bookkeeping/taxes/filing etc that I truly hate. Yesterday I updated an ‘important’ spreadsheet for our son that lists information he would need in case both my husband and I croak. I was able to send him the link to it via our chat program. AND my desk is still clear!

Have a fun Friday!

Sunshine!

My husband laboriously negotiated our ski slope of a driveway to get several days worth of mail yesterday, then again when he received an email that UPS had left a package for us at the bottom of our driveway. Since our driveway is STEEP and 650+ feet, it was quite a bit of exercise. We have sunshine today, and our afternoon temperatures are supposed to be above freezing (33 degrees F. now), so we may finally start getting some melting. I figure it’ll be another day or two before we have our freedom to come and go as desired again.

I’m ready to put winter and February behind me. My heart is in the garden, playing in the dirt, envisioning colorful flowers and veggies. Maybe in another 2 or 3 weeks, I can think about finding some early spring plants to get going.

Otherwise, one of my dear friends made me feel really special yesterday, and I’m still glowing from it today. She creates drool-worthy jewelry, mainly from silver. She branches out from time to time into copper, one of MY favorite metals. Yesterday, in the mail my husband retrieved, there was a package from her with SEVERAL pieces of copper jewelry – earrings, a bracelet, and two necklaces! A feast for the eyes, I keep changing which is my favorite. I can’t wait to show them off to my Lunch Bunch friends. :0)

I hope you are safe and well today.

Cold Shoulder

Giphy

No one is negotiating our driveway until Mother Nature quits giving us a cold shoulder. We’re still iced in, though our temperatures are supposed to get above freezing today, and things are supposed to start melting. I’ll believe it when I see it. We have mail waiting, plus deliveries scheduled – but all will have to wait until further notice. It’s 28 and a world of white ice right now.

We had a comfort food dinner of chicken chunks, mushrooms and onions in cream of mushroom/chicken soup over rice last night. I got TWO compliments on it while we were eating and help cleaning up the kitchen afterward, so it was a definite success. :0)

I was really happy to hear our generator come on last Thursday, doing its automatic weekly testing, in the middle of our being stuck up here on top of our hill. Thankfully, we haven’t needed it, but I can’t tell you how grateful I am to know it’s there if needed.
