Trash

From my friend, Marsha. 🤣

Trash in Chiang Mai is picked up on a schedule by someone driving a huge truck with young boys hanging on the back to gather bags and throw them in, much as we had in the states before automation allowed one man in a smart truck to drive by, pick up the can provided by the company, dump the contents into the truck, put the can back where it had been, and continue down the road.

Here in the condo building the subject of handling trash is much different.

There is a trash alcove behind the stairs and the elevator on each floor. There is no “trash day.” You take whatever trash you have to the alcove whenever you would like. Trash goes in the can and is picked up several times a week. If you have other things you don’t want, but that others might be able to use, you put it carefully beside the trash can on the floor or on top of a table-like thing above the trash can. One of the ways people make money around here is recycling. You flatten cardboard from boxes for example, stand it up carefully, and someone has taken it away the next time you go. Same for plastic bottles or glass bottles, carefully rinsed out and with lids. Same for some old pillows I put there, and some kitchen stuff left by the former tenants here.

I am amazed at how well the service works. Everyone is careful to wipe grease off plates and cookware so the pipes are not clogged up. The refuse from this is bagged and kept in your freezer until you’re making a ‘trash run’, down to the end of the hall in my case. I don’t think I have ever found anything left in the alcove to still be there the next time I was there. Excellent system!

Our truck bed is all packed. I put the donation bags for the Veterans Thrift Store in the back yesterday and added the trash bags this morning that we’re taking down as we leave. I will call the thrift store in about half an hour to make sure they’re open and accepting donations today so we don’t get any bad surprises. We go for our semi-annual teeth cleaning after the donation.

I’m a wuss about going to the dentist. I still have bad dreams the night before. I probably would be toothless by now if it weren’t for a promise I made to my husband years ago. He loved to ride his motorcycle then, but kept riding it without his helmet. It wasn’t against the law, but it really worried me. He finally said he would promise to always wear his helmet if I would go with him to the dentist every six months. He no longer rides his motorcycle, so doesn’t have to honor his promise, but my promise is still active.

My mom died of oral cancer several years ago. My wonderful dental hygienist checks me for oral cancer first thing so that I can relax a bit more during the rest of the exam and cleaning.

The Greenwood Schools are open today, which tells me that the rest of the town is definitely thawing out now. We are having some melting too, except our driveway still looks like a ski slope. It’ll be the last to melt.

We’re supposed to gather trash and drive it down to the bottom of our long, steep driveway. I’m going to gather it, but just just try to convince my husband that we should leave it in the garage this time, putting it out for pickup NEXT week.

Our dog, Amber, has been busily shedding hair all over the place. My husband is taking a nap now, having slept badly last night, so I’m waiting to vacuum until he awakes. There are small tufts of Amber hair moving around over the tiled areas, trying to grab our legs as we walk…. :0)

I love this little guy.

I did a LOT of weed-whacking yesterday. We had ‘weed-trees’ under the deck which were too much for the weed-eater, so I ended up pulling them up or cutting them off with a handheld cutter and THEN weed whacking. I’m going to try to finish the back yard today, plus weed the rock bed in the back that runs along the house. Then I’ll spray needed areas with Killzall.

I’m trying to get outside right after lunch each day the weather is cooperative. By then the vegetation has dried from the heavy morning dew we’re getting, but the current heat isn’t oppressive. GOOD situation for trying to get things under control outside.

We will gather trash and drive it down today, plus get our mail. I don’t know if we’ll do anything in town today or just do things another day.

I hope you are well and happy today.

We’ve had a busy day and a half.

Last night my husband came in from mowing, saying the steering was broken on the riding mower. We found that Sears could send a repairman today, so we made an appointment. When my husband got online to look for repair parts for the mower, we found our age-old problem (if you’ll pardon the expression) that the mower was now SO OLD that NO repair parts or compatible parts were available. I then called Sears back and cancelled the service call for today.

Sears isn’t good about communicating with its employees, so a really nice guy showed up a little after 7 this morning. I told him we had cancelled the appt and apologized for wasting his time and gas. He stayed to chat about my husband’s Vette, and then asked if he could see the mower. I made sure we wouldn’t be charged for a service call and the three of us went out to the shop. He agreed that though the mower was a really good one, it would take someone who would machine the parts needed, and would cost a lot of time and effort. He said HE was too old to tackle it, and he’s 20 years or so younger than we are.

We had researched riding mowers on the net, and went early today to three places in Greenwood who might have something close to what we wanted. We ended up ordering online from a company who will deliver the mower to us FREE Friday, assembled and ready to go. We had to pay more than we wanted, but we should be well set up for the rest of our mowing lives when we get it.

He told me he felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. I made sure he knows AGAIN how much he means to me, and that he shouldn’t HAVE to feel obligated to keep taking things apart and making them work anymore, particularly when no parts are available and the project would probably take the rest of the summer or longer. We can bite the financial bullet and DO this.

So, it’s 11:00 here now and we’ve been to three places in town, come back, gathered trash, and driven it down to the bottom of the driveway, gotten our mail, taken a non-service call, ordered the mower, and all before lunch.

Guess who will probably take a nap after lunch…

It’s quite dark outside right now, looking as if the skies will open up any time. Amazingly, I’ll need to get out and water if this bypasses us to make sure my tomatoes are getting enough water. My husband is making some repairs to our irrigation system, so we’re dependent on the rain right now. I’ve encouraged him to take his time, not working himself into a frazzle over it.

Our driveway people called yesterday, saying they are AIMING to do our driveway repair Thursday! Fingers crossed that Mother Nature cooperates at least a little bit, allowing them to do the 2 jobs they have ahead of ours.

Our trash people took a much-deserved day off yesterday, delaying regular trash pick up by one day. My husband got antsy about it. He decided that my information was wrong, even though the paperwork I have SHOWS they were off yesterday and that our pick up day this week would be Wednesday (rather than the usual Tuesday). So we gathered it up and drove it down. I dragged the can down, so now it’s waiting for them whenever they come.

Amber and Jet seem to have finally reached a point where they can walk carefully around each other – a HUGE improvement from the initial big hostility both displayed when first introduced. NOW the big push is to make sure they are NOT together when ANYONE is eating. Amber, our 95 pound yellow lab, has NO sense of humor or grace when the subject of food is raised.

We will also need to be very careful not to let Jet outside yet until we’re sure she knows where ‘home’ is. I told my husband I wanted to make that decision. So far, he will cooperate, though he is bad about paying attention to details, like where the cat is, or whether she is right under his feet, trying to trip him, when he goes out into the garage to replenish his drink supply, for example.

I’m S-L-O-W-L-Y, gradually, making a bit of progress on losing the lard. I’m now down 27.8 pounds from my heaviest. I’m getting used to reading labels on things and trying to make substitutes so I can watch carbs and sodium, primarily.

I’m routinely doing a 40-minute old lady stretching yoga session daily now. I’m adding another stretch every once in a while. If I can make myself, I’m trying to do some online 10-minute videos, such a exercises with weights for seniors. This varies all over the place, but it’s my INTENTION to do one each day…

I’m leaving soon to meet my miracle-worker-hair-dresser, Michael Remillard, Tangles, Greenwood AR, who will hopefully, once again, be able to bring order out of chaos. :0) I’m taking him a gallon bag of lettuce from our garden, since he’s a salad lover, like me.

Women’s Health

I was a good girl yesterday, doing half an hour or so of yoga stretching plus a 10-minute video on general movement, plus another 10-minute video on exercises with weights. That’s pretty good for an old broad like me. I’ll try to do that again today.

When I get home from my haircut, I’ll stop and get the mail and then go up and gather trash to take back down to the bottom of the driveway to put in the trash can I’ll drag down. I’m trying to be proactive about this because I don’t want to even THINK about my husband skidding and falling on the gravel in the driveway.

Better Homes & Gardens

Not sure what the rest of the day will hold. We’re forecast to get rain late tonight into tomorrow morning. I’m hoping my veggie plants will get a nice soaking rain from it. There is always the possibility of hail, but they are not emphasizing it now, so I’m not planning to cover my planters.

I’m still angry at myself. My husband and I had finished eating dinner in front of the TV and we were still watching a program with Amber on her bed in front of the TV. All of a sudden I heard noise in the kitchen. Amber had oozed her way off her bed and sneaked into the kitchen while I was distracted. She ate half of the roast beef and sauce from the skillet on the stove. She has done this a couple of times before. I KNOW better than to leave the gate to the kitchen open. It’s really hard to take when your dog is smarter and more sneaky than you.

Have a wonderful day.

Home Again

Bright Side

This is me after my wonderful massage this morning. Lynn is a master at finding all the sore spots and getting rid of them. By the time she is finished, I am completely loose and would stay right there on the table and sleep, if she would let me.

My husband wanted me to stop and get him a “bowl” on the way home for lunch, since it was cold and rainy. (A “mashed potato bowl” is mashed potatoes, corn, and chunks of chicken tenders with cheese on top. The ultimate delicious comfort food from the deli in our local groceries. I used to get their ‘mac and cheese bowl’ but the carbs are too high. Now I get either 2 chicken tenders or two pieces of fish and I then have one for each of two lunches.)

I just finished getting Suzanne Ryan‘s “Keto Chili” – Simply Keto – into the crock pot so it will be ready for dinner tonight. I had a different dinner planned, but the cold rain got ME in a comfort food frame of mind, too.

While the hamburger meat and sausage was browning, I divided and bagged up chicken, hamburger meat, stew meat, and some pork chops for the freezer.

We gathered up our trash and will dash out between rain showers to get it down to the bottom our driveway and the trash can down where it should be for pickup tomorrow. I’ve already drowned 3 times today – once for the massage and then the grocery store/deli, and finally the mailbox this morning. Another drowning won’t bother me much. :0) I’m hoping that my veggie plants are soaking this up, saying, “Ahhhhhhh1” like I was this morning.

“Dorky Dogs” – Liucija Adomaite – BoredPanda.com

Today we’ll gather trash and drive it down, setting up the can at the bottom of the drive as we start errands. We’ll get our mail, drive to Ft. Smith to our CPA’s to sign our tax returns and get the receipts, then back to Greenwood to hopefully find some veggie plants for my spring garden.

If we’re successful, I’ll get those in the ground today. We had a light freeze last night, but that’s the last one we’ll have as far as the forecasters are predicting now. I’ll keep a close eye on things, though.

Yesterday I found a gourd and sanded it and cleaned it up. I plan to do some wood working on it. I still have no clue what I’m doing, but I have ideas rattling around in my head that want to come out.

Apparently Amber heard ‘something’ in the garage last night or this morning and was barking. The next thing I heard was when she was barking at 5:30 this morning. I tried to ignore it, but couldn’t. I got up and shuffled downstairs, let her in, admonished her to keep her mouth firmly shut, and came back up. I managed to sleep a bit more, thank goodness. When I asked my husband how the dog got out, he said she was barking in the utility room and he let her out…

He took one of our guns out into the garage this morning, thinking there was a critter of some kind under his car. He came back in, saying he didn’t see anything.

I’m hoping the remainder of our Monday goes smoothly. I’m trying to gather grit and patience, in case he wants to drive the Vette to Ft. Smith. I’m HOPING the fact we need to take the trash down and bring plants back will convince him that the truck is the better choice today.

Please wish me luck.

Oops!

wayhomestudio-freepik.com

I had just finished my first blog post here this morning and noticed the green dot on my calendar tab, indicating a reminder of something. I couldn’t remember anything, so I checked it.

Oops! My husband had a haircut scheduled for 10:00 today. It was 9:56, so I texted Michael, our miracle-worker hair stylist, to tell him we would be late, but we would be there. I woke up my husband, who was taking a nap in his recliner. He got up, washed his hair quickly, and we left. We were about 10 minutes late. I apologized to Michael, who was very gracious about it, and we got the haircut. On the way home we got gas, got our mail, and I dragged our now-empty trash can back up to where it lives higher up on our driveway.

My husband told me about a sale on propane and suggested that we take advantage of it, topping off our tanks. (We have one 1000 tank for the house and another 250 tank for the shop). I spent a LOOOOONG time on the phone. The lady who answered apparently works from home. I could hear kids screaming in the background. I think she was from India. Her accent was very thick. She spoke quickly and I only got maybe 15% of what she said. We labored our way through what I wanted. She put me on hold for 10 minutes, which seemed like forever, finally coming back. I THINK she said we would get both tanks topped off for the sale price and that the delivery would be this coming Friday. I told my husband that I wasn’t at all sure of this, but that I had done the best I could. It will be interesting to see what happens.

My other call was to Cards Trash service. I was trying to find out a ball park estimate of when our trash was picked up these days. I was on that call a LOOOOONG time, too, waiting on hold through the same 4 ‘announcements’ over and over before finally getting to the lady. She said she was unable to get that information, but did tell me that the truck drivers worked until 7 pm. So next time the trash hasn’t been picked up when we get back from errands. I’ll wait until 7pm before checking on Tuesday to see if the can is ready to be dragged back up.

So now we’ve had lunch and I have the sleepies. Maybe I can catch a nap and then hope to be productive, as well as doing my yoga for the day.

Good morning! It’s sunny outside and 34 degrees F. right now. It was 80 yesterday afternoon. This afternoon’s high is forecast to be 51. What a difference a night makes. We avoided the severe weather threat, and for that I’m very thankful. The wind blew and ‘gusted,’ but that was it. HOORAAAAAY!

Our bug spray guy came just as we were getting things together for lunch. He sprayed inside and out, for everything including elephants, so we should be in good shape now. I really don’t like to have scary things crawling around or flying around inside the house, if possible.

Even though MyFitnessPal said “You are not likely eating enough” and I was careful, apparently I also ate lead or something that made me retain water. I was up almost a pound this morning. I realize that weight can fluctuate for many reasons and that I shouldn’t be upset – and probably shouldn’t be weighing myself every day – but this is working for me and keeping me on track and motivated. I just gnashed my teeth, stuck my tongue out at the scales as it laughed at me, and will do my best to stay on track today.

freepik

I HAVE to train myself to read labels at the grocery store before buying anything. That will drive my husband nuts – but I’ll just tell him it’s necessary, and that he can stay home if he wants to. I pulled out a frozen dinner to eat this evening, since I’ve been cooking a lot lately. It’s ‘high protein’ and I assumed low carb since it’s Lean Cuisine. NOOOOOO! It’s 38 carbs! I’m trying to stick to around 20 carbs per day, so this one meal is almost two days’ worth! ARRRRRRGH! Needless to say, I won’t be eating that tonight.

I will drive down to the bottom of our driveway soon to get our mail and check to see if our trash can is empty. I checked it at 4pm yesterday and it was still full. I’ll call the company either way. When we started with them, the paperwork said they might have someone picking it up at 4am the pickup day, so to have the trash out there and ready. We started putting it out mid day Monday for Tuesday pickup. The last few weeks, we’ve tried to stop, either going or coming back from errands, to put the can away, but it’s still full. I’ll see if I can find out what’s going on, or maybe they just missed us this week. Such a TERRIBLE problem, right? :0)

I’ll be earning my third sparkly star for the week today for yoga practice. I’m TRYING to make this a habit, but learned last year that I defy the odds on making something become a habit. The sparkly star on the calendar right now is enough to keep me going. Maybe I’ll become more of an adult later…

“The Light of my Life”-Boo-@333too3 on X

It’s a pretty Monday here – quite spring-like, with a high of 83 forecast for this afternoon. We have a cold front coming through tomorrow night, reminding us that we have some winter left, but I think we’re through the worst of it now. Every morning when I open the front door, the sight of the daffodils blooming their heads off all around the well house makes me smile.

Our big things for today are 1) gathering the trash and putting it out at the bottom of our driveway, 2) getting our mail, and 3) voting in the Arkansas primary.

Yesterday I vacuumed a LOT, getting the first floor carpeted areas (our office, the foyer, and the living room) plus the tiled areas (the hallway, two half baths, the dining area, kitchen, pantry, and utility room.) The result was that when I emptied the jammed-full vacuum canister, I was throwing away more than a full dog’s worth of hair. UGH. You would think Amber would be completely bald now, but she has a full complement of hair ready to be shed…

lowbird.com-boredpanda.com

Yesterday afternoon I almost decided that all the vacuuming I did should count as my exercise for the day. Then I hauled my old, aching body out of the recliner and got down on the mat for my yoga practice. My husband happened to be reading in his recliner. I managed to do a good practice. I did 11 reps of my abdominal exercise and 5 reps on each side on my knee-to-nose-and-then-lifted-out-straight-to-the-back exercise, rather than 3. My husband nodded at me and said, “Good job.” I looked at him and said, “Tomorrow you’ll practice with me?” He looked at me, and then started reading again, not saying a word. :0)

Sent to me by Madeleine Jacobs

For some reason, one of our investment outfits decided to ‘recertify’ us or ‘update our records’, requiring that we send in everything including our first grade report cards to prove who we are. They closed down access to our account until we produce all this stuff. One of the requirements was proof of residence – with something listing both of our names. I don’t know if Arkansas is different than the rest of the states, but all the utility accounts are in the man’s name only. (I’m chattel, I guess.) We sent in our electricity bill, but they wouldn’t accept that. I finally thought of our reverse mortgage statement. It DID list both of us. We scanned that and sent it in today. Hopefully, that will satisfy them and we can have access to our account again… ARRRRRRRGH!

I hope that your week is a good one.

I moved our truck out of the garage first thing so I wouldn’t get penned in by one or two trucks this morning. I swept out the empty half of the garage. I’m having a hard time getting my act together this morning. I have no excuse. I sat down at my computer with a cup of coffee and POOF! the morning is almost completely gone and I haven’t written a thing on the blog yet!

I’m trying to remember that our trash day has been delayed one day due to the holiday and that we’re supposed to gather trash TODAY and put it at the bottom of our driveway for pickup tomorrow.

I’m delighted that the weather forecast changed. We did NOT get the snow showers predicted for last night. Now they are predicted for TONIGHT. The sun is shining brightly and it looks beautiful outside. I’m hoping it will get warm enough in the afternoons today and tomorrow that any snow showers will melt away and be a fond memory almost immediately.

I hope you had a nice Christmas. Some compassionate people wrote beautiful thoughts remembering that there are lots of people who have a hard time during holidays. I hope they made it through and that the coming year is a better one for them. We’re all in this together.

New Week, New Start

I’ve decided that my Etsy site needs a total makeover. I’m going to do it a bit at a time, trying to learn as much as I can about WHAT I can do, HOW to do it, and then, once that is done, making new things to add to it. This will be a long term project, but I’m feeling excited just thinking about it. I’m hoping my friends will help me, allowing me to bounce ideas off of them to get their opinions. My good friend Marsha already pointed me to a YouTube video on the subject. I’ll look at that first. :0)

The People’s Therapist

It looks like we have a whole week of good weather here! I KNOW! Hard to believe. I’m not sure if Mother Nature is feeling bad about her extreme behavior lately or if this is a test – where she dangles the good weather in front of us and then snatches it away, like Lucy and Charlie Brown…

This is probably the last of the flowers for us this season. This is a twice-blooming iris, which USUALLY blooms for the second time in October. It reinforces my opinion that Mother Nature is really enjoying messing with us this year. I’ll surely ‘accept’ it any time we get a pretty bloom, though.

UPDATE – It’s been about 45 minutes since I was working on this post. My husband came in, wanting to gather the trash and take it down to the bottom of our driveway. On the way down the driveway we saw 3 MORE purple iris!

TangledTulip on Etsy –

My husband is feeling of two minds about his birthday which we’ll be celebrating Saturday, Nov. 18th. He’ll be 80. On one hand, he has never wanted to do anything “public” concerning a birthday (he once almost decked a nice man who was playing “Happy Birthday” on his accordion right next to his chair in a restaurant). On the other hand, he privately thought he would never live to see 30 – so 80 is quite an achievement, plus he thinks it has a certain amount of cache’ – where being 79 is simply, ‘old.’ I just asked him if I could take him to dinner or celebrate in some way. This was quickly squashed. He finally said he wants me to fix his favorite meal – chicken chunks and soup over rice. I’ll do that, plus see if there is a way to make another favorite – pineapple upside down cake – with as little sugar as possible – that will still taste good. I’ll research that.

Have a wonderful day!

It’s a cool start to our day here. Sunny and 52 F right now. The high is supposed to be 68. Sure is a change from trying to get outside before it gets too hot…

We don’t have any plans today, other than gathering trash and driving it down to set up the trash can for pick up tomorrow and getting our mail. I enjoy days where we’re not pushed to do anything. The day unfolds and I can simply enjoy it.

Yesterday I did laundry all day long. We got our bed converted from warm weather to cold weather coverings, changing from velour to electric blanket and changing to a different comforter. We like the ability to warm up the bed before we get in, then turning off the heat or turning it to low for the rest of the night, covered by a light, snuggly comforter rather than a heavy one. We didn’t use the heat last night, but the heavier blanket allowed us to sleep better.

Today I’m going to make the ‘no-knead’ biscuits and some spaghetti – both requests from my husband. Since he was good about helping with the bed and the laundry yesterday, I’ll make both for him today.

Make your day a great one.

My pick for American Idol won last night. (For those of you who don’t watch, it’s Iam Tongi, in the middle.) I saw a video yesterday of Jelly Roll – a new-to-me really powerful singer who has been winning awards lately talking to Joe Rogan on Joe’s podcast about Iam, showing him the original audition. Both men cried. Jelly Roll (“Save Me”) said he had publicly announced that he was going to find whoever was handling contracts with Iam because he wanted ‘in’ on them. Jelly Roll performed on the finale last night, singing a duet with my other favorite contestant, Oliver Steele, so I hope THEY hooked up, as well.

Speaking of Iam’s original audition, he sang “Monsters” by James Blunt. On the finale, James Blunt and Iam sang the song together, barely making it through in one piece. The audience felt the same way.

My husband mowed the grass yesterday. Now it’s my turn to do my thing and weed whack where he can’t get the riding mower. With all the rain we’ve been getting, there’s a lot for me to do. We’re due for more rain on Wednesday, so I have today and tomorrow to try to get the trimming under control.

I hope that your Monday is a good one.

Feeling Lethargic

We’re leaving in a bit for my husband’s haircut. We may go for some supplies, but it’ll depend on how my husband is feeling after sitting for the haircut. His back is still an issue.

We’ll get our mail and re-tether our trash can to the pole up our steep driveway. We’re due for rain starting sometime this afternoon and continuing off and on through Thursday.

I hope that wherever you are, you’re safe from the wrath of Mother Nature, somewhere warm and dry and cozy.

TRASH- We’ll leave in about 45 minutes to get my husband’s haircut and run a couple of quick errands before getting back to meet the wonderful guy who sprays our home for pests. I’m quietly HOPING that when we get to the bottom of our driveway –

  • the trash can we left down there last night is empty
  • or, at LEAST, that the trash can hasn’t been pulled over and trash strewn all over the place

If either of these is true, things will be good. If not, the trash ‘discussion’ starts again from square one. I was really happy that we didn’t have to get up early and rush around, trying to get the can into the back of the truck and down to the bottom of the driveway this morning. Fingers crossed.

IRIS PLANTER PROGRESS- I took my husband to the iris planter last night after we took the trash can down. He was amazed. He had written the planter off, considering it too far gone for recovery. He said several times what I good job I had done. :0) I’ll take the shovel out there and dig as deeply as possible today, trying to finish the job of the clean-out of iris and Bermuda grass before I put the tomato supports in and try to get them wired securely.

NOTE- It didn’t freeze up here hard enough to kill off the elephant ear leaves last night! We aren’t due for another freeze for the next 10 days, so I can enjoy them for awhile longer!

ANOTHER HAPPY NOTE – I sold a pair of earrings on my Etsy site yesterday. I’ll put them in the mail this morning.

A happy morning thus far. I wish you a great day.

It’s Monday 10-17-2022

It’s Monday, the beginning of another week in the middle of the fall, the night before a freeze warning here. It’s clear, sunny and 52 degrees F. here now.

mid-clean-out project

IRIS PLANTER CLEAN OUT – Yesterday I spent about 2-1/2 hours trying to clean out our iris planter. I made good progress. I got out almost a full big trash can full of iris and rhizomes, and pulled out a BUNCH of Bermuda grass. Today I’ll get a larger shovel and get more serious about digging as deeply as possible, dealing with whatever I find. I’ll also weed whack around the outside.

I would LIKE to finish the clean-out today. I’ll bring the trash can full of iris into the garage due to the freeze warning. I’m planning to add some soil to the niche (old tomato) planter before I plant a lot of the iris there. I’m planning to distribute the rest of the iris to planters all around the yard. Before the project is finished, I’ll put tomato plant supports in and see how securely I can anchor them both to the center pole, and each other.

TRASH- The seed I planted finally germinated on the subject of trash. My husband and I have had a running ‘discussion’ on how to handle the trash since our trash service changed and the new people brought us a really large trash can to use. Since the paperwork that came with the can said to have the receptacle out for pickup by 5am, I told my husband I thought we should put the trash out the night before. He nixed this immediately, listing several reasons for being adamant. This resulted in our trash being missed and our having to bring it back up into the garage to hold and add to the next week – TWICE now. We gathered the trash this morning, and as we squashed the bags to add them to the already fairly full can, my husband asked, “What do you think about taking the trash down tonight?” I looked at him and said, “I think that’s a GREAT idea!” (Hooray – shhhhhhh!)

DAY 94 of my daily yoga practice – yesterday I was really tired and stiffening up after working on the iris planter. I thought about just considering the work in the yard my exercise for the day – just sitting down and resting instead of doing my yoga practice. I thought about it as I drank a bottle of water, and finally thought, OK. I’ll just do a few basic stretches and that will be it. Once I got down on my mat, I just started doing my regular session. Even though I was stiff and sore, some of the stretches ultimately felt good, once I was able to relax and breathe into them. I ended up doing the whole practice as usual and felt good afterwards because I actually felt better, and also because I tricked myself into doing what I want to become a habit. :0)

Enjoy your Monday.

Hooraaaaaay!

Ranker

We just returned from running errands. When we got down to the bottom of the driveway on leaving, there was no mess and no bags of trash. HOOOORAAAAAAAY!

We’ve just finished putting everything away and will eat lunch soon.

Do to mysterious problems on one end or the other – or to the vagaries of the universe – my SIL and I have been worried because we haven’t heard from each other. Usually we touch base briefly daily. I figured she was busy, had an early appointment, etc., but she texted me on her phone yesterday asking if I was all right. I’ve been writing, but she wasn’t getting anything. I texted back to tell her we were fine, and then wrote more, finding out that she hasn’t been getting anything from ME, either. She tested our email after we texted and it came through fine. She’s going to catch me up when she has time. It’s good we have more than one way to communicate.

I hope you find something to grin about today.

Heartfelt – Artwork by Catherine Zarip

It’s quite overcast right now and we might get some rain. I couldn’t be happier about it.

In about an hour I’ll go down to get our mail (if it’s not raining), checking to see if the trash has been picked up. It’s supposed to be picked up on Tuesday. When I left yesterday to get my hair cut, I had to stop and use the trash bag I carry in the truck to pick up the strewn garbage. When I got to town, I called the trash people. The lady said she would create a work order so the trash would be picked up yesterday. I HOPE it was actually picked up. If not, I will call them again with some choice words.

I’m on DAY 20 of my daily yoga practice. My husband told me I was “doing a good job” yesterday. I tried to get him to practice with me, but he scoffed at me, eating some Fritos…

I still don’t know if the Christmas cards I’m trying to paint will turn out reasonably or not, but I look forward to working on them each day.

I’ve been finding a lot of talented people’s work lately. It’s such a joy to discover someone creating breathtaking art in all its forms and be able to share it with you.

Have a great Thursday!

I’m late getting to the blog today. I got a blood test first thing this morning (after having to wait a LONG time at the clinic) and then celebrated it being over with a fabulous breakfast at The Dari. We’re home now for the rest of the day, trying to catch up with our various activities.

I hope that you are having a good Monday. We are ‘in-the-frying-pan’ as usual here in summer, very thankful that we can live through it spoiled by good a/c. I’ll wait to check on tomatoes until this evening before the sun goes down or tomorrow morning.

I ALMOST didn’t do yoga yesterday. Things got busy and I missed my normal time. I finally ended up doing my session at around 9pm last night, so I did get my sparkly star on my desk calendar. I’m hoping to get to my yoga in the late afternoon, as usual, today. My body is beginning to respond to my renewed efforts on yoga practice. It still takes me awhile, just lying on my back on the mat, for my back to calm down, but yesterday it was a bit quicker. Each day I’ll get a little looser.

Other things for the day are gathering trash for the week to ADD to the trash that didn’t go out LAST week – thanks to my husband trying to avoid it ‘going-out-too-early.’ I just hope the trash people take it all tomorrow. I’ll also play in my art room.

Dog’s Best Life

At the beginning of last week I vacuumed up an entire dog’s worth of hair from our tiled areas on the first floor. Yesterday I vacuumed the carpeted areas of the first floor, sucking up ANOTHER entire dog! And yet Amber still has a full, lush coat of healthy-looking hair….

Enjoy your Monday. Stay safe and cool.
