It’s only 77 outside right now. Ahhhhhh! It won’t last long, but I’m hoping that if I mention it, Mother Nature will be happy enough to allow it stay for a bit longer than she might have planned.

Yesterday was our semi-annual teeth cleaning. I really hate it, even though our dentist and our hygienist are both really nice people. Years ago, my husband wouldn’t wear a helmet when he was riding his motorcycle. I kept talking to him about it and he kept refusing. Finally, one day he said, “Okay. I’ll wear a helmet if you’ll come with me to the dentist for regular care.” I agreed and now I’m stuck, even though the motorcycle is a thing long past now.

I’ve always been afraid of the dentist, even though I had never had a cavity until one last year. I did have braces for a couple of years – painful and annoying – and then my teeth went back to their original places even though I wore a retainer. My mom died of oral cancer, and so I hold my breath that I’ll get that, too, even though I quit smoking some 45 years ago. Adding insult to injury, my husband insists we use the Corvette to make the trip to Fort Smith. He scares my hair off, putting on the gas when I would put on the brakes in any given situation. My stomach is in a knot by the time we get there.

We have made it alive through another trip now and don’t have to go for another 6 months. We did leave a donation for the Veteran’s Thrift Store while in Fort Smith.

I have a pretty impressive to-do list for today, some of which I’ll actually have to get accomplished – like putting clean sheets on our bed. I’m getting really skilled at pushing other things on the list aside for another time, though, to the point that I might see if there is a competition around for an award…

Gray Saturday 12-2-2023

Good morning!

It’s gray and raw and 46 outside right now, so I’m using the morning to work on my Etsy shop and write blog posts. I’m HOPING that it will, in fact, get to the forecast 58 degrees this afternoon.

Gardener’s Path

I’d like to pull the iris out of one of our brick planters in the back and distribute them in two other planters in the front. This will free up the back planter for a downsized square foot planter garden in the spring. My plan at the moment is to use an 8 foot brick planter for lettuce and spinach and two other square brick planters for tomatoes. All already have Mel’s Mix in them and will be ready for planting.

My husband insisted that I buy a Dremel glass etcher at Walmart yesterday. If it doesn’t clearly show how to change the bits, I’ll try to call the company. The new one will allow me to continue my work on the glassware today. The one I got from our shop is too large for the work I’m doing. My hands are strained just trying to hold it, much less trying to do anything with it. Fingers are crossed that this one will work for me.

I Should Be Mopping the Floor…

My To-Do List is beyond daunting at this point. I TRIED to feel good about doing one thing from the list each day, but the list is growing exponentially and I just feel guilty about all the things I SHOULD be doing. I may just throw it out and start a new one, listing the things I NEED to do THIS WEEK…

I hope that you’re having a nice Saturday, doing something that brings you joy.

Feeling Lazy Saturday

jamesrubyworks.com

My to-do list is intimidating me today. I went from feeling organized to have it all written down to feeling totally overwhelmed.

Brian Tracy wrote, “When you feel overwhelmed with too much to do and too little time, remind yourself that all you can do is all you can do.”

For the time being, I’m ignoring the list and doing what I want to do (writing blog posts) while I enjoy a cup of coffee. Then I’ll choose the most important thing and do that. Hopefully, these will give me the impetus and motivation to continue…

To-Do List

I did a LOT of good stuff yesterday. I was busy all day, used my time well, got a LOT of things checked off my to-do list. The problem is that I have more to add to the list each day than I checked off, so the list seems to be growing exponentially.

I’m TRYING to choose the highest priority items each day, thinking if I can get THEM checked off, I’ll be making headway. That’s a reasonable goal, but ALL the things are ‘priority.’ :0(

The HIGHEST priority today is OUTSIDE – my veggie garden maintenance and tomato pruning – because we have a stormy forecast for both tomorrow and Tuesday. And while I’m doing these highest priority items, I’m constantly reminding myself that my daily exercise – taking care of myself – ranks right up there, too. My house looks at me with its sad face because anything more than daily necessities there are taking a backseat to all the other stuff…. UGH.

I found this quote I like –

“The only thing more important than your to-do list is your to-be list. The only thing more important than your to-be list is to be. “The best way to get through any challenge is to step back, look up at the sky, breathe deeply in and out, smile if you have to…then dive in.” “To-do list : to-do list!”

And this –

Better get busy… :0)

Hello, April! (A Couple of Days Late)

Australian Firefighters Fundraising Calendar

I have always enjoyed the month of April. “Ray and Sarah” make it an even better month. :0)

It is only the third of April and already it’s shaping up to be a much better month for us.

  • My husband and I both received our second COVID vaccinations last Monday.
  • My spring veggie garden is in and seems to be doing well so far. I have planted Butter Crunch Leaf Lettuce, head lettuce, spinach, crookneck yellow squash, zucchini, cabbage, and broccoli. I will be adding radishes and celery starts to the main garden in the next day or two. We also have two planters with tomato plants.
  • We have a nice group of contractors replacing the back porch ceiling, installing some new shutters to replace some that fell off the front of the house two stories up, and sealing the place in the roof soffit squirrels had gotten inside and raised havoc. The combined project should be finished Monday by the end of the day. They are on Home Advisor and the name of the company is Safe Elite Transformations.
  • Continuing our fight with the gremlins that have been plaguing us – my husband was able to fix the riding mower – twice, due to two different problems – and got the lawn mowed. He also was able to get the push around weed whacker running and did some of the heavier weed whacking.
  • I weed whacked in the front and then used the leaf blower to clean things up. I’ll do the back today.
  • I will use the opportunity of the fluorescent light fixtures and ceiling fan being down from the back porch ceiling and see if I can clean them up a bunch before it’s time to put them back up.
  • Either the guys will paint the rest of the wood on the back porch or I will do it myself once this project is finished.
  • Today would have been my parents’ 79th wedding anniversary. (My dad would have been 103 this year and my mom 100). I think of them often. I was very lucky in my choice of parents. I have so many wonderful memories. :0)

So things are definitely improving around here since April started. I hope that a new leaf has been turned over and that we can continue making progress on what seemed like an endless list of things that HAVE to be done ASAP.

Happy April!
