Karin de Haas – Funda Altincekic Aysel

We got up early (for us) this morning, did not pass “GO,” and went directly to the local clinic for me to get a follow up blood test to see if my new thyroid hormone dosage is correct now. (I had my thyroid radiated/killed several years ago due to Grave’s Disease, so my thyroid dosage is important, and the level was too low.) I’m actually hoping that my doctor will decide to raise the dosage again, based on my energy level and some other things. I should know in a couple of days.

We always reward ourselves after we have blood work done by enjoying a delicious breakfast at our favorite local restaurant, The Dari. I felt very pampered (and full!) when we finished. :0)

We’re home for the rest of the day. I’m going to try to get the weeds in my flower plants under control today. I’ll also check to see if we have any ripe tomatoes to harvest. Yesterday my husband fixed a break in a hose connected to our irrigation system. I’ll test the system to see if it’s working or needs more soon, since the daily rains SEEM to have stopped.

We just had our quarterly pest spray on the 21st, but we had to catch a LIVE scorpion off the ceiling in our foyer last night. oooooh. I just called our company and asked what could be done. They are sending our guy out again for a respray at no charge on Friday afternoon. You can’t ask for better service than that.

I wish you a very enjoyable day.

It’s Friday ! 2-16-2024

We got home just awhile ago. We enjoyed eating breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants in Greenwood, The Dari. AND, because of the kind pre-paid card from my massage therapist, we only owed $5.00, including tip. You can’t beat THAT with a stick.

We checked out Greenwood Pharmacy, 560 West Center Street, 479-996-2000, which just opened recently. (In a very short amount of time last year, our pharmacy, plus two others in Greenwood, closed.) The new pharmacist is Tanner Cooper, a nice young guy. We discovered his MOM went to school with our former pharmacist! Anyway, the next time we need to have a prescription filled locally, we’ll use his services.

Eating breakfast out today will help me ease into the fact that Lunch Bunch seems to have stopped now. Since Christmas, I am the one who texts and calls to see if anyone plans to come. We haven’t met since then. Things have quietly moved on. Everyone has other plans now or are unable to come. I’ll really miss seeing everyone each Friday, as we’ve been doing this for over 20 years. I don’t give things up gracefully, so I’m in mourning for the group.

I’m hoping our plumber will get here today. After talking to him when he came recently to see what we needed, I’m feeling really lucky NOT to need him for something more serious. He and his helper are still busy trying to restore everyone to their former status after the incredibly cold weather we had for so long. We are lucky that our pipes didn’t freeze. We had to swallow a bit at the humongous electricity and water bills we just paid, but the alternative is much, much worse.

Sign of Spring Coming –

My sweet daffodils will probably get frozen, but they’re trying to bloom their heads off right now. They are in several places in the yard, with a gazillion bulbs ready to open. I love it.

Frosty Wednesday 11-16-2022

Right now I’m trying to hold onto my sanity because our driveway pad detector keeps going off and there is no one out there. There is one good thing about it – when there is an actual vehicle, the alarms are more frequent and longer than the one at a time beeps we’re getting now. It gets on your nerves, though, kind of like water dripping on your head, one drip at a time, but relentlessly.

We were out first thing this morning to get lab work done for our routine doctor appts Monday. Hopefully, our health will be such that we won’t have to go back for six months. To give ourselves something nice after being good little people and getting the work done, we went to The Dari for a sumptuous breakfast before coming home. I had a really nice veggie omelette. YUM.

There was frost on everything this morning, but the sun was shining, so it seemed things were sparkling. It’s 38 degrees now, and it’s supposed to get to 49 this afternoon. If it actually DOES get that warm, I’ll try to get outside and get something done in the yard.

As we approached the top of the driveway, a couple of deer leaped across in front of us. Such a beautiful sight!

Have a beautiful day.

The Dari – Greenwood, Arkansas

The Dari, Greenwood AR

This restaurant opened recently. My husband and I met one of our best friends to try lunch today. We met there at 1:30, but it was still quite crowded. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Breakfast served from 6-10, Lunch and dinner ’til 9.)

We ordered and paid at the front counter, got our drinks and found a table. My husband and I ordered a hamburger steak combo, which included mashed potatoes, your choice of sides (we had green beans), and your choice of Texas Toast or a roll. (We got Texas toast.) Our friend chose a grilled chicken salad without eggs.

We got our orders quickly, much to our surprise.  And both things were GOOD!  The chef/cook cooked our hamburger steak to perfection. It had a brown gravy with onions in it. Beside that was mashed potatoes, also with onions, that made a nice combination. The green beans were like home grown and home cooked, with the beans flat and cooked with bacon. Our friend enjoyed her salad, saying it was delicious.

We don’t usually go to breakfast, but do when we have to go for blood tests – so we’ll try it for breakfast in November. Our ‘lunch’ was a heavy meal for us, so we’ll modify our eating the rest of the day to work it into our Nutrisystem eating plan, but we were very happy with our experience and plan to go back.
