Friday Thoughts 9-30-2022

It’s frightening how quickly things can change. I’m still reeling from the before and after pictures of Ian’s legacy on southwest Florida and the islands west of there. So many people are devastated. It just rips your heart out, doesn’t it. My good Florida friends thankfully weathered things fine. Today my thoughts are also with my SIL and her husband in Charlotte, hoping things go well for them.

We go to Lunch Bunch in about an hour and a half to catch up with our good friends. I’m not sure who will be there, but I’ll be happy to see whoever is. Afterwards, we’ll do errands. I’m so thankful that my life is ‘routine and SOME might think boring’ right now. :0)

Today is DAY 77 of my daily yoga practice. It’s becoming a normal part of my afternoon, and I consciously make time for it sometime before dinner. I’m still on modified practice because of a spot in my back, but I found a neck pillow that I put under my back that allows me to do most of my poses.

I find it hard to believe that today is the last day of September. Our mornings are definitely cooler, and our afternoons are calming down, now, too. I couldn’t be happier. Heat and humidity really sap my strength. I’m much more able to function when the weather is cool. :0)

We had a flurry of activity yesterday afternoon. I received an email from our tax guy, saying he had THOUGHT that our returns were done a long time ago, but that his people had just finished things up YESTERDAY. They sent forms to us for us to sign and send back to them. We don’t owe anything and we don’t have to go to the slammer, but this was really disconcerting. We’ll still need to go get our records and our copies of the returns, but the important part is being handled. Whew!

I hope you’re staying safe and well today.

Thoughts on a Monday 2-22-2021

The sun is shining brightly and it is supposed to break 60 degrees today! Hooray!!!!!! That should take care of the rest of the snow and ice on our driveway. The sun finally showing itself after almost 3 weeks is really making my spirits soar. :0)

We will take our tax stuff to our CPA in Ft. Smith and I will feel a huge weight off my shoulders. (I think I MIGHT have mentioned how much I HATE bookkeeping and taxes…)

I learned what a water hippo is today.

The people who supply our water are having a problem and are having to repair the system. That is causing many people in the system to be without drinking water. We didn’t see any problem this morning, but we will pick up some bottled water on the way home, just in case. The National Guard of Arkansas will be supplying drinking water via the water hippos to people who bring containers. We are lucky to have them.

We had the luxury of being able to warm up our dinners last night in our new microwave last night! What a beautiful thing. I find I am almost hopelessly spoiled. :0)

I will be able to fill our bird feeders today without being in danger of falling on my head due to the ice on the deck. I have been practically crawling out there, trying really hard not to do something stupid when we couldn’t get down or up our driveway. NOW I’ll just be careful just because I’m sometimes a clutz!

I hope that you are safe, warm, and dry today, and that you find something that brings you joy.

Perfect Weather for Tax Prep

Today through Monday is the perfect weather here for tax prep – cold, raw, rainy, gray. I don’t mean to offend tax people – in fact, our CPA is one of our favorite people. I just dread MY part in it each year.

I’ve come up with a system that causes the least pain now, though. I built spreadsheets for each category of itemization and strive to add information to them monthly so that I’m not faced with a truly awful amount of time trying to go through things to make sense of them. I finish December’s input, total the spreadsheets, print them, etc.

Our CPA provides a booklet through which I trudge, filling in information, adding spreadsheets and documentation. The booklet makes sure I don’t miss anything. I’m doing it this weekend, trying to finish tomorrow.

Then I just wait for the tax documents I need to arrive in the mail or be available for download and printing online, bag it all up and dump it on our CPA.

Since our weather is dreary and yucky, I’m not distracted by wanting to be outside. Hopefully, I can keep my head down and get this done.

Have a happy day!

A Beautiful Day, Except…

We are having a truly gorgeous day today – particularly for February. The sun is shining brightly and it’s 59 degrees outside!

Yesterday we not only saw the small herd of 6 deer beside the road on the way to town, but also saw a roadrunner when we got home.

This one above is not the one we saw, but the picture gives you an idea. He was up on our deck railing, eating the handful of seed we try to leave in the “bird” feeder we made from a shovel.

He seemed quite comfortable eating brunch as we watched. Two squirrels and a rabbit rounded out the wonderful display of nature.

Our doggies have LOVED the day, wearing us out with letting them out and back in again over and over. (They have to go out separately, since our lab, Amber, is jealous of our elderly cocker spaniel/schnauzer cross, Molly, and tries to hurt her.)  We are getting our exercise today playing “doggy doorman.”

I got the ingredients for keto chili in the crock pot early this morning – at my husband’s request – so we’ll enjoy having that ready to eat for dinner tonight. I also cut up a HUGE container of strawberries because my husband lives for his ‘cakes, ice cream, and strawberries’ each night.

This would be a perfect day except that it’s February, meaning I need to get our paperwork organized for our CPA to do our taxes. I have kept spreadsheets on the various deduction categories this year, and I have made myself enter the data each month, so I think it will be mostly a matter of checking things over, totaling everything, and printing the spreadsheets, then adding the appropriate backup for each thing.

Stock records to confirm as we wait for the company to send us the official records, filing, updating, and THEN opening the spreadsheets for the records for 2020 are also on the list.

If all this paperwork were done with a swish of my magic wand, I would be the happiest of women….
