Rainy Thursday 10-26-2023

It’s dark, windy, and rainy here today, but not cold. It’s supposed to get up to 80 this afternoon! This looks like the last week we’ll have of the unseasonably warm weather. It may actually freeze here over the weekend, so I’ll get out and get last pictures of our elephant ears.

To give you an idea of size, the “leaf” in the middle lower row is above my head…

Gardening Know How

I need to get serious about starting to ‘put things away’ for the winter with final weeding, trimming, pruning, etc. I’ll cover my raised bed square foot garden planter boxes with tarps for the winter and unhook our watering system for it. I’m not absolutely sure I’ll have a garden out there this coming spring. I’ll make that decision later, but I’ll take care of what I have. We have two planters of the six that need to be rebuilt, but that still leaves four I could plant.

My body is having a pity party this morning because I was scheduled for a massage. My wonderful therapist Lynn Moody 479-629-7601 texted me, saying she had been exposed to Covid and wanting to know if I wanted to reschedule. After waffling for a bit, I decided I didn’t want to expose my husband to whatever I might bring home, so my massage is rescheduled to NEXT week. Even my BODY is having to undergo character-building exercises. :0(

My husband worked hard to change another of our fluorescent fixtures into ones that will accept the new LED tubes. This fixture was 8 feet long, out in the shop. It took him all afternoon to do it, because the gnomes that live with us decided to give him as much trouble as they could devise, but he got it done. I think he has two to go, but those can wait.

He complained of the bedroom being too warm the night before last, so I turned the a/c back on to cool things down before we went up. He took a nice shower and managed to sleep really well last night, catching up for several nights. He just came down, and it’s after 10am. :0)

Enjoy your day!

Thoughts on A Rainy Tuesday 3-21-2023

Quora

It’s gloomy and wet outside, and the rain is supposed to continue all day. Makes me want to cover up my head until tomorrow.

I was hoping to prep my garden for spring planting this week. There is still a chance, since it’s supposed to warm up tomorrow, but Thursday and Friday are both supposed to be rainy with thunderstorms, so I may just have to wait until next week to play in the dirt.

I’m starting to get some ideas rattling around in my head about what to try in my art room next. If I can get a few things done this morning, maybe I can spend some time up there today. Just puttering around up there usually brings my spirits up. :0)

My poor husband has been having trouble sleeping lately. He has his days and nights confused. He was downstairs twice this morning, unable to sleep, reading for an hour or so each time. He’ll spend much of the day napping. He refuses to exercise, and he almost never will take a walk around the yard with me. It really doesn’t make any difference, as long as he rests, but I think it would be healthier if he had more of a regular regimen. With the rain today, we’ll probably BOTH be napping this afternoon…

First ‘to-do’ of the morning – clean off my computer-side table and my desk, paying bills, filing, etc. Let ‘er rip!

Sleeping When Old

There is one large perk in getting older that I am cherishing more and more.

I think a lot of people have trouble sleeping as they age. This becomes much less of a problem when you retire and no longer have to show up ready to put in a good day’s work. In fact, it’s life saving.

My husband and I vary all over the block on how we sleep. We have always stayed up late, heading up for bed around 11:30, midnight, or after. Sometimes I have trouble actually GETTING to sleep. Other times I wake up with my hips hurting, or have had a bad dream, or….

I come downstairs and read until I’m sleepy again. We don’t get up until 8am, so this usually isn’t a problem.

Last night I noticed the light was on downstairs and joined my husband about 3am. We read for awhile, and then went up to sleep. I again noticed the light on later, but was too sleepy to join him again. I don’t know what time it was. Then he was up when I woke up again at 7. I got dressed and we started our day.

We will both probably end up asleep in our recliners after lunch.

It’s a really good thing we can plan our day – usually – around how we are feeling. We have times during the day when we feel awake, alert, and energetic, and times we can hardly keep our eyes open. The perk of being able to give in and sleep when you would like is a luxury beyond price.

It may be an odd way to live, but we aren’t bothering anyone else so we’ll take it.
