It’s dark, rainy, and 69 degrees here. I love it. It’s such a welcome change after all the super-hot weather we had for so long. We have the front and back doors open to the fresh air. It’ll keep me from starting to weed the flower planters – at least this morning – but I’m sure not complaining. :0)

I mixed up two 2-gallon containers of Killzall yesterday afternoon and sprayed the rock beds, around the planters, under the deck stairs and deck, on the sidewalk edges, around the driveway pad, the front porch pad, etc., so that job is done, unless weeds start springing up again.

We sold our old mower yesterday! A retired couple drove from Webbers Falls, Oklahoma (about 1-1/2 hours from us) in a truck with a really nice trailer attached. The man backed their rig close to the shop door. We have some ramps, and the guys used them so that my husband could then drive the mower up into the trailer. The man had a tie-down he put on the back and we gave him a short length of chain with a closure the man could use on the front of the mower so it wouldn’t roll forward and back on the trailer bed on the way back home.

I was super-impressed at the backing job the man did, plus the great job my husband did of driving the mower up the ramps. They were super nice people and we had an enjoyable visit with them. It was good that they have the mower they can either repair or use for parts, and we’re happy it is gone and out of the way in the shop.

This is the latest wood-burned piece. I listed it on my Etsy site yesterday and started two more pieces. I’m having a great time and feeling more confident about what the various burning tips will do. I’m learning!

Monster Cat and I are developing a good communication now. She is food-driven (hey! so am I!) and so tries to lead me to her bathroom when she wants more food. She is more attuned to the routine around here, so this is coming to center around times when she needs to be in there when our dog is eating. I’m giving her just enough food each time to get her to come in, and she seems happy to come – or lead me – to the goal. Hooray!

As of 3 days ago, there is 36 pounds less of me. I’m a bit frustrated that the scales haven’t changed in three days, but the other part of me is grateful that it hasn’t gone up again. I’ve been watching what I eat like a hawk and have been working hard in the yard, so maybe I’ll see the scales move down again soon. That would be encouraging.

I hope that your Thursday is a fun one.

Sunny Sunday 4-21-2024

I’m having a small “moan-and-whine” session over our coming weather. I got outside yesterday when the light rain stopped and managed to weed one brick planter. The weather was PERFECT for weeding – cool with a light breeze and cloudy. Today through Tuesday of next week is supposed to be nice, as well, so I’m really happy about that. I need to spend a lot of time in the yard trying to get things weeded and pruned, plus tending our veggie garden.

Wednesday, though, things fall apart big time. Showers and thunderstorms start then and continue through Sunday, May 5th, with only one day showing sunny. ONE!

UGH. Hopefully this rain won’t be non-stop, and I’ll be able to get out there and get things done in-between, but the forecast as a whole is pretty grim.

I’ll try to work around the weather, getting things as under control as possible. I’m going to walk around the yard now and take some pics to share with you.

Happy Sunny Sunday!

I received a text last night from Patty, Linda’s daughter, saying that Linda’s other daughter, Kelly, was in town from Nashville. She wanted to know if we wanted to meet them, and Linda, for Lunch Bunch today! I’m really looking forward to seeing all of them, catching up, and giving/getting wonderful hugs. I don’t know if Kay and her husband, Bud, will be there or not. That would be truly wonderful.

After we go to lunch, we’ll stop at the local grocery to get more canned dog food for Amber. She seems to be doing well on the food made for dogs with sensitive stomachs, with more wet than dry food in each feeding, so we’re sticking with that for now.

I’m making it a point to bring Abby in every afternoon for a love-the-cat fest. We are both enjoying it. She is showing no signs that she is in pain. I can’t keep the diapers on her, so I can only let her in when I can make the time to sit and love her, then put her outside again. Since she has always been an inside/outside cat, this is working for us.

It’s grim, gray, 54 degrees and rainy-looking today, so unless it clears up, it looks like I’ll have to wait on weed-whacking around my veggie planters today. I’m hoping we’ll get some good, soaky rains, helping our veggies get a good start.

Today is DAY 34 on my practicing my yoga stretches every day. Yesterday I was feeling cranky/out-of-sorts/hostile/sore/tired and I have to admit I went ahead and put a star on my desk calendar because I tried really hard to work out in the yard and failed to make any progress. I talked myself into counting THAT as my exercise for the day. I sat in my recliner trying to relax and felt guiltier and guiltier. Finally, I got up, got my mat, and did my practice as I should have, feeling better physically and guilt-free. Does anyone else have to fight with themselves to do what’s right?

Since it looks like my weed whacking will need to be postponed for better weather, I may actually get up to my art room this afternoon.

Make this a good day.

It’s Raining. It’s Pouring…

Chery Lavarnway-Pinterest

It’s rainy here today. I’m glad to say that because the temperature is a balmy 61, so it’s JUST rain. Starting tomorrow our highs will be in the 40s or maybe to 50, but the lows will be below freezing. I’m really trying to get ready, but I DON’T want it.

I’m trying to avoid or ignore a lot these days. Thankfully, I have a lot to help me –

  • I find things for, and write my blog
  • I listen to lots of music
  • I read a lot
  • I play in my art room
  • I try to learn new things, like the glass etching lately and the coming (I hope) work with wood with my Dremel tool and my new wood-burning tool.
  • I do crossword puzzles on the computer
  • I work outside when Mother Nature is feeling cooperative
  • I watch demonstrations on YouTube
  • I find and try new recipes
  • I dream about my next garden
  • I play with our animals
  • I sleep in my recliner with our cat in my lap
  • I try to keep Amber (our 95 pound yellow lab) OFF of my lap!
  • I make new things to list on my Etsy site
Pinterest

This should be my new photo now. I avoid what I can, stick my head in the sand or ignore things, all in a probably impossible attempt to retain what is left of my sanity. “The world is too much with us…” ~ William Wordsworth.

May today and tomorrow remind us how much we have and how important it is to cherish those we love and do what we can to make things better.

Exercise

Spice of Life – Deborah Ann – Pinterest

I had a rough night of sleep last night. I’m not sure why. I certainly did my share of exercise yesterday.

I’m happy to tell you that I finished the ‘weeding-and-covering-the-4-garden-planters’ project in my square foot garden. (We’ve decided to wait on trying to take down and rebuild the remaining two planters that finally fell apart due to the stress and strain of being outside in the sun/wind/rain/temperature differences. The angle iron supports are fine, but the wooden ‘boxes’ will have to be completely rebuilt.)

To be honest, I’m not sure I’ll replant the 4 boxes in the spring that I just weeded. I did the work to protect the boxes from further stress over the winter. I’ll make the final decision in the spring. I have three brick planters on the far side of the house that I could use instead, since the main things I plant are lettuce, spinach, and tomatoes.

The next project I’ll start today is ‘weed-whacking-the-whole-garden-area‘ – (inside the garden, in front of the garden outside the fence, and then the area beside the garden/behind the shop and the perimeter of the garden around the outside of the fence.) This whole area is really badly overgrown with high, dense, hard-to-cut weeds – a big job needing multiple sessions. I will try to get that started today.

The weather people are saying a strong cold front is coming through tonight, bringing cooler temperatures and a good amount of rain starting about noon tomorrow and lasting the rest of the day and then overnight. Just in case they’re correct, we’ll do our grocery shopping today and I’ll plan to work on my glassware project tomorrow afternoon.

I wish you a stellar day.
