It’s Saturday

I’ve been having fun doing little images to say ‘thank you’ to my housekeeper, Khun Nong, each week. I also try to do little stuff to ease her way, like change my sheets, put out new towels, empty the trash, etc., because she concentrates on things like mopping or scrubbing floors, dusting EVERYTHING in my condo, even straightening up where I may be sloppy. (She prefers things to be extremely neat, all in a row, where I tend to leave things spread out and ‘askew.’ My place is stunningly clean and neat once a week, so if you come to Thailand to visit me, please come Friday evening. 😃

This week, this is what I found in my art alcove! Hopefully, it will be happy with the amount of sun it gets there and I can enjoy it for many years. I’m simply thrilled. I’ve never had a housekeeper before, but I feel sure that not many people have one who brings GIFTS, as well as doing a stellar job.

The sun is shining today! That means I could catch up on my laundry. I did some last night, leaving it on the drying rack on my balcony overnight, hoping it wouldn’t rain. I gathered up the dry things and put them away this morning after I got home from breakfast, plus did another load of laundry that is out there now.

There is a whole “army” doing my wash – I do mostly the small stuff. I take sheets and towels to Brian once a week because he has a clothes washer. If I have some of my nicer stuff, I bag it up and we take it to the laundry in the lobby of our condo building. A bit complicated, but it all works well.

I’m having a quiet day today, much appreciated after the “jumping-through-hoops” days we’ve been having lately. There are so many details to handle when moving to another country. We have a humongous list – trying to make progress on all these things in priority order, while trying to not lose anything in the shuffle. Thank goodness Brian is super organized, thinking for both of us. I’m just trying to go with the flow, be up for whatever happens, and be helpful if I can.

Make this a fun day!

Good morning! It’s beautiful and 75 degrees F. here in Arkansas right now. The ‘feels like’ will go to 103 this afternoon, but I’ll get out this morning to harvest some more tomatoes and will avoid being out when the ‘hotness’ is at its peak.

I think we have a quiet day ahead, with no real ‘plans’ today, other than retrieving our trash can, getting our mail, and maybe replenishing a grocery or two –

I’m working on my latest wood-burned piece in my art room, and making progress on the big clean up. I started to go through some stuff up there yesterday afternoon, but was quickly overwhelmed and decided to skip it for the day. I want to end up with ‘areas’ of supplies and storage with old, used up or dried up things GONE and what is left organized in a fashion that makes it easier for me to put my hand on things. I hope I can make this a reality.

Today’s harvest

I’m just THRILLED that we’re getting ripe tomatoes again. I really thought we were finished for the year when we went essentially a month with green tomatoes that were showing absolutely no signs of ripening. We are savoring each mouthful.

Have a nice Tuesday!

Shout-out to Lynn, my magnificent massage therapist and her family who lost power during the last, sudden storm we had a couple of nights ago and are still without power. She said they may have to go until Monday or more without power, due to downed power lines and POLES close to her house. Her husband had gone to borrow a generator so that they could plug in their fridge plus maybe a couple of fans. With all the watches and warnings we are under during the summer, we didn’t even hear about the possibility of rain this time.

*Speaking of power, we just lost OURS for a few seconds. Just suddenly, while I was typing, everything shut down. It came back on, thankfully, and we don’t hear our generator running, so it seems to be public power. Wonder if this is caused by all the work probably being done to restore power to so many good folks.

This is the story of my weight this week. I’m finally half a pound away from being 35 pounds down. Do you think I might make it this time? Fingers crossed.
sent to me by my good friend, Cathy.

I’m still avoiding looking at our driveway. It’s my extremely adult reaction to the possibility we might be in for a big clean up after the storm. The Amazon delivery guy remarked on the stuff in our driveway when he came up yesterday. I’m excusing the fact I haven’t checked it out because he said he didn’t have any trouble getting up the driveway. Fingers crossed about the driveway, too.

Things are quiet around here so far this morning. My husband is thinking he’ll mow if the ground dries up enough during the day. I’m thinking I may get up to my art room today.

I hope you are safe and dry. May power be restored to those waiting.

Good morning. I hope you enjoyed a nice 4th of July celebration if you live in the U.S.A. (I’m reminded as I communicate with readers here, and also on X, that many of the people I treasure are from other countries, so yesterday was not a holiday for them.)

Our down-in-the-valley neighbors shot off some fireworks last night, since we missed the forecast thunderstorm. Sadly, our weed trees in the back made it almost impossible for us to see the display. :0( I wished we had a 2nd floor deck so we could have seen it better.

We’re in the process of a cool front moving through, so the awful heat indices we’ve been having won’t be a factor today. Right now the humidity is 82% according to my computer, so it may be the end of the day before we FEEL any relief, but the temperature is only supposed to be 91 this afternoon, so I’ll be grateful for that.

Since we’re inside, I’ve been trying to clean some areas that have needed attention for a while (a too-common condition around here). The days have been whizzing past my head while I clean and then relax and read in my chair or listen to music.

I’m hoping for a quiet day ahead. I hope that if you traveled, you get home safely and get a chance to rest before any return to work.

I’m having some difficulty waking up this morning. My husband is sleeping in. I have the morning chores done and the only other thing we have to do today is gather our trash and drive it down. I like unscheduled days like this.

I finished a group of 10 greeting cards this morning that feature a feather as a bird with a bird quote. I’m going to list them on Etsy today.

I hope the day ahead is a wonderful one for you.

Thursday Thoughts 4-6-2023

Good morning!

It’s hard to believe, but it’s not raining. It’s cloudy and 49, but nothing is falling on us. The wind isn’t blowing. No flying hairballs. Just cloudy, cool, and quiet. I’ll take it. :0)

My new veggie plants are looking happy this morning. It’s supposed to start warming up a little bit each day, so when it gets more comfortable outside, I’m planning to prep the brick tomato planters.

We’re planning to have a quiet day today and stay home. Tomorrow, we have Lunch Bunch, and then we’ll hit Walmart for groceries and then see if we can find some good tomato plants.

My brother-in-law sent a video to my husband this morning of their new dog, Jasmine, fetching a toy and bringing it back to him. Our Amber will go fetch a thrown toy, run it back to you, but won’t give it to you. She teases you with it, and when you ask for it, wants to play tug-of-war with it, or decides to shake it to break its neck, dancing away from you. I got her to do it once, but that was it. Jasmine is already doing better than Amber.

I ordered three books from a new author to be sent to my Kindle recently. I just tried to access them and had trouble getting the Kindle connected to the Internet. My husband is looking at it now, trying to help me. Fingers crossed.

Have a wonderful Thursday!

It’s cloudy here today with possibly severe storms including gusty winds predicted around midnight tonight. I hope we get through it all right.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that I figured out what was going on with my images saving and accessing, and that my husband is now waiting for a used computer to replace the one we were using in the shop. Things are calm around here now – a priceless thing. :0)

I’m planning to spend some time in my art room this afternoon. I’m playing with things, experimenting with some new techniques and materials. I’m having a lot of fun.

We don’t have any big plans today, so we can take our time with things that we enjoy. My husband even found a frozen ribs dinner he wants to try tonight, so all we have to do is nuke a few things and eat.

I hope that you’re having a fun day, too.

I melted into a puddle when I saw this puppy. I couldn’t resist giving him whatever he wanted. Those eyes. :0)

We had lots of severe weather last night. It was all around us, but mostly went just north of us, with tornadoes, really high gusty winds, hail, lightning, heavy rain, flooding, and flying hairballs. Lots of people lost power, had damage, etc. A semi was blown onto its side on one of the main highways through Fort Smith. Trees were down, some on homes, and more. Several of the public schools in our area of Arkansas went back to Zoom learning due to damage and lack of power. I don’t think any lives were lost.

We lucked out. We walked around checking our roof and yard. I checked my veggie plants. We had some leaves and branches in the yard, but just little stuff.

We did our errands this morning, taking our trash down to the bottom of our driveway (650 feet steeply down to the street in front of our home). No damage on the driveway. We didn’t notice any damage in Greenwood as we did our errands.

We are home now, hoping for a quiet day. I finished getting things back in place yesterday after our new carpet and porch flooring project. I’m determined to keep getting rid of STUFF. I’m trying to get into a ruthless state of mind. Hopefully I can make some significant progress – AFTER I rest from moving all the stuff OUT and then back IN to our office, living room, foyer, and porch!

I hope that you are safe and well, enjoying a quiet Tuesday.

Today is cool, sunny, and beautiful.

Today is a two-outing day for us.

We’re leaving in a couple of minutes to take out our trash in the truck, get our mail, then run errands. Later today I’ll go out again for a hair cut. Exciting life we lead!

Actually, I can use a BUNCH of ‘ordinary,’ ‘quiet,’ ‘normal,’ and ‘peaceful.’ All really beautiful words and much appreciated. I plan to do a bunch of relaxing between outings.

Last night we tried our first frozen dinner from Stu’s Clean Cookin’ in Greenwood. 1435 West Center St., Greenwood, AR 72936.  479.597.3242. the meal was “Chicken, Brown Rice, and BBQ Sauce.” The chicken was excellent. The rice, not so much for me. I got one mouthful of really HOT (to me – a real wuss) BBQ sauce. My husband loved the dinner and said it was one of his favorites since we’ve been eaten food from the two new places in Greenwood. He didn’t have anything hot. He said he could have easily eaten twice as much of the chicken – but that has been our problem – reasonable portions for a human. We were both satisfied, so that was good. I’ll make sure we order this again for my husband next time. Tonight we will try “Pork, Black Beans, Brown Rice and BBQ Sauce.” Their store was clean. There were two really friendly guys who greeted us, had our order ready, and we were out the door in under 3 minutes flat. Impressive. I also like the fact that they print the nutrition information on their website, on the packages, etc. so you know what you’re ordering and eating. I am feeling SUPER lucky that we have TWO new places that BOTH offer good, convenient frozen foods for us to plan our dieting around. :0)

I seem to be in an ‘advertising-frame-of-mind’ today.  I have awful hair – thin, fine, yucky. I’m lucky to have a wonderful hair stylist, Michael Remillard in Greenwood at Tangles, 40 Town Square, Greenwood AR 72936. 479-996-6636 who understands this. I’m going for a haircut today. He knows that my hair doesn’t do anything good on its own. The best thing I can do for it is keep it clean and go to Michael for good hair cuts. I wash it every morning and blow it dry. He cuts it so that it looks like there is a PLAN. Mine is very short now, kind of like a pixie cut. It’s easy to take care of.

I have found a shampoo that I REALLY like. It’s called “Herbal Essences Bio:renew, Blue Ginger & Micellar Water Refresh.” Quite a mouthful, isn’t it!  I like it because

  • it smells good
  • it makes a truly wonderful amount of lather
  • it rinses out really well, without my feeling I have any kind of residue

I looked for it at Walgreens today. They had Herbal Essences, but not this flavor. I just ordered it online. It comes in a nice twin-pack. :0)

I harvested these sweet little bitty tomatoes yesterday. This may be the last of the year. I’m continuing to work in my raised bed, square foot garden. I’ll show you pics when things get a bit farther along. The tomatoes come from two brick planters on the opposite side of our house from the garden. We converted them from regular planters, filling them up with Mel’s Mix. Even with the weird growing season we have had this year, we had a nice crop.

While we were out doing errands, we saw our plumber, Travis Hawkins. 479-461-8347. He helped us recently with a water pressure problem, and then with a follow-up problem with our master bedroom shower. He told us that when we called about the shower, he tried to get to us himself, but got covered up in work, so sent his co-worker, Josh. He said he MEANT to just stop by and not charge us. Since Josh DID, he said he ‘owed us a service call and won’t charge us for the call the next time he comes.’ To say we feel lucky to have found him is a HUGE understatement. He is a really first-class person.

I hope that your Tuesday is a fun one.

Beautiful Friday Morning

cottonwoodclinic.ca

We’re having a cool start to the day, but it’s supposed to warm up nicely by the afternoon. Taking the doggies out this morning was a brisk experience, to say the least. :0)

We’re having a quiet day, with Lunch Bunch and a few errands.  I’m going to spread my afternoon between –

  • checking on my plants in the greenhouse
  • making sausage balls for lunches for the next few days
  • cleaning off my desk in the office

and HOPEFULLY, making some time to play in my artroom.

I LOVE a day when there isn’t a lot of drama. No huge list of things to accomplish – not a lot of ‘have-to’s – the day not whizzing past my head in a blur.

I hope you’re having a quiet day, too.
