I’m feeling like I got something important accomplished.

My purse is a bottomless pit. I admit it here, but not often, and not without defensiveness. When we’re out, I’M supposed to have everything we need for errands, for identity, money, notes, paper, kleenex, etc. Soooooo…..

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it.

BUT – My friend, Kay, lost her wallet last week and has been going through a really bad time trying to figure out what she lost and replace things. I decided that I couldn’t – if my life depended on it – list what was in my purse OR my wallet – and decided I would take time to take everything out of both, go through everything, throw stuff away, reorganize what was left, and create a list with specifics that I have printed and will keep in my office.

I just now finished. I guess it took me a good hour to do it, but I feel more confident that I’m not carrying a bunch of stuff I don’t need to, and that I have things more organized. This will also make sure that I don’t ever NEED the list. It’s like locking your keys in your car. You do it once, and it’s such a pain you learn to never do it again. :0)

It reminded me that my husband has a birthday coming up. I checked his driver’s license to be sure he isn’t up for renewal. Then I checked mine – and I WILL have to renew in March. I’ve now put this on my desk and computer calendars….

So, I did something I’ve been putting off for a LONG time and am patting myself on the head a bit that I did something good today.

I Prevailed!

Pond 5

I think I told you yesterday that we tried to get our flower planters/tomato planters watering system going and failed. My husband was able to change the batteries in one of the timers, but he gave up on programming it. This is one of the many things he has always been good at doing – making me feel inept – but now “I” am the go-to technical person. YEAH.

I tried to do it yesterday, but it didn’t run. I decided to see if I could find the paperwork and try again today. This morning I went out and started from scratch, completely resetting both timers to run 15 minutes apart. I set my alarm so I wouldn’t forget to check to see if they actually ran this time.

I’ve just come back in and I prevailed! I had time to go around to all the planters – including the tomato planters – and make sure all were getting water. I tweaked the amounts, since we had shut things off tightly for the winter and there was still a lot of air in the lines. Once I finished that, I cam around the front and the 2nd system was working!

I think I have most going fine. We’ll check for any breaks in the lines and keep tweaking how much water each of the planters is getting, but the main system seems to be going fine. I’m really relieved. Can you see me grinning?

Smile!

I was thinking I would try to get veggies planted in my raised-bed square foot garden boxes this week. After looking at my weather sources, it looks like I should wait. There are several freezes this week and I’m not ready to have to cover the boxes with tarps nightly. PLUS, tomorrow we’re due for everything including flying hair balls, particularly in the evening, so I’ll look at things again sometime next week.

Mattingly Chiropractic

A Charley-Horse last night renewed my focus on drinking more water and maybe longer yoga sessions. It hurt so badly that my husband woke up and helped me knead it until I could relax again. Muscle gel on my calves this morning will hopefully get rid of residual soreness. I’ll also do more careful stretching, have half a banana at lunch and eat some spinach this evening.

I’m patting myself on the head just a bit this morning because I’m more caught up on ‘have-to’s’ than usual. All I need to do today is balance my checkbooks and finish some filing. SOMETIMES I’m not completely lazy…

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Patting Myself on the Head a Bit

Tenor

Today I’ve made progress on a couple of things –

THING ONE – I got rid of stuff from our kitchen and pantry fridges in preparation for some deep cleaning and reorganizing. We’re not eating NEAR as much meat these days and we’re eating LOTS more veggies and fruit, so we need to rethink storage of fresh food for the kitchen fridge and ingredients for a different style of cooking in the pantry fridge.

THING TWO – I moved a BUNCH of books from my bookshelves in my bedroom to the guest room, gathering books to donate to the library for their fund-raising book sale as I go.

Both projects are pretty large ones, so I’m trying to do something definitive on each one every day until the projects are finished.

Yesterday I truly earned a pat on the head.

THING ONE: I FINISHED my part of our 2020 tax prep. It is in an envelope waiting for some investment statements to be available online and printed, then it will be taken and dumped, with relief, on our CPA for processing.

As a part of this, I started spreadsheets for 2021, made some improvements to my filing system, and threw some stuff away. I also discovered that there was, indeed, a DESK in my office, under the huge pile of STUFF.

Note: The big white envelope on the right side of the desk is the tax stuff that is almost ready to go!

THING TWO: I finally went through the big laundry basket I use to haul things back and forth to the booth my friend Carla and I share at Rags & Roses Collective in Greenwood. It was an absolute mess, full of packing materials, display supplies I can never quite put my hands on when I’m trying to put new things in the booth, products I had brought home, products that needed to be put in the booth when there is room, etc.

The thing remaining is the counter area where my computer is. I’ll clean that up today and then celebrate by giving myself some time to play in my art room this afternoon.

Every once in a while, I do something GOOD! :0)

Patting Myself on the Head – Just a Bit

“Cardinal Taking a Bow” – by Norma Wilson

I’ve told you I absolutely HATE tax time – the whole trying to make sense of my records, feeling overwhelmed, etc.

When I finished these and dumped them on our wonderful CPA around the 15th of January, I promised myself I would start a different way of keeping records so that I didn’t hate this time of year so much.

When I created spreadsheets to summarize our receipts in each category, I copied each of them, labeling them “Whatever Category – 2019”. I promised myself that I would take time at the end of each month, enter the relevant numbers into the spreadsheets, and then file the receipts under the appropriate tax category, rather than the month as I have always done.

I just finished entering the information for February – hence the pat on the head and bowing cardinal! :0)

If I can keep this up, at the end of the year I SHOULD be able to just total the categories on the spreadsheets, print them, and bag them up for the CPA.

I’m a bit embarrassed that I have moaned/griped/whined for years about this – never coming up with a better way to attack it until this year.

Someone should say something memorable, such as, “Better late than never….” don’t you think?
