I was on ThriftBooks.com looking for more paperbacks by Linda Howard and discovered, to my delight, books I hadn’t read by Nora Roberts! I didn’t think such a thing existed!
Now I have used books coming by BOTH and I feel quite rich in anticipation.

Series Description
“J.D. Robb’s popular futuristic In Death series features police lieutenant Eve Dallas and her tycoon husband, Roarke. The series is set in mid-21st century New York City and, occasionally, off-Earth. The books are primarily police procedures with a focus on the romantic relationship between Eve and her husband. The first book in the series, Naked in Death, was published in 1995 and the series now includes over 50 titles. Like most mystery series, the In Death books do not have to be read in order, but character relationships do develop over the course of the entire series.”
(I now have the 53 paperback books in the series. The 54th comes out in hard back this month. I was just able to preorder the paperback that will come out the end of July of 2022.)
Most times I get a new one, I re-read all the others, just to immerse myself in her life and that of her co-workers and friends. (I’m on # 41 now – “Devoted in Death.”)
I find her a fascinating combination of strengths and weaknesses. I like the way her mind works, trying to get inside the minds of really bad people who kill others. The victims become ‘hers,’ and she will do whatever is necessary to bring their killers to as much justice as the law will allow. As all of us, she has her quirks and weird fears (such as she is creeped out by dolls). Each of the books brings out something touching and/or personal about Eve, Roarke, their relationship, etc., where she lets us inside a bit more.
I have read that Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb is quite wealthy. I can’t think of anyone who deserves the good things life has to offer more. Long may she reign – and WRITE! :0)

Definition of Happiness
I pre-ordered the paperback version of “Forgotten in Death,” the 53rd book in the Eve Dallas, “In Death Series” by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) a long time ago. It will be released the 28th of this month. The 54th book, “Abandoned in Death” will come out in hard back in February of 2022. I will pre-order the paperback of that one, as well.
As I always do, I’m enjoying re-reading the previous books in preparation for diving into the latest for me. I’m on book # 26 – “Memory in Death” now, fully immersed in Eve Dallas’ world, full of dead people that Eve stands for, determined to get justice for each one regardless of the cost to herself. The continuing love story of Eve and the billionaire Roarke is a classic for a reason. The characters are strong, real, quirky, and addicting.
Nora Roberts’ books have helped me through some difficult times. I love to dive into the situations she has created, get to know the characters, fully engrossed in the story.
I have several favorite authors, and my book collection is one of my most prized possessions.
I’m rich in books.
Thoughts on a Wednesday 9-8-2021
My outlook is much more upbeat today.
Since our weather is much more civilized than it has been – only 90 degrees F. today with much less humidity – I’m planning to pull out our tomato plants today. They have spread their vines all over the place, making it impossible to mow or weed whack, and have stopped producing tomatoes, so it’s more than time to get them out. Fresh ripe tomatoes are one of the joys of our lives, so it’s well worth the time and effort to put them in each year. We get spoiled from the color on our plates, the fabulous aroma, and delicious taste for two to even three months each year!
I have a lot to clean up in the yard, particularly since I’ve neglected all but the absolutely necessary with the heat we’ve had, but I’ll try to do a bit each day until things look better around here.
I have never coveted money, as such, but it would be really nice to never have to worry about it. I’m happy whenever I see someone who has really been successful in this regard due to hard work and providing something people enjoy. I read awhile back that Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, one of my favorite authors, has a net worth of around $400 million. I couldn’t be happier for her and her family. She has given me so much through her writing over the years, providing entertainment, escape, and challenge. I selfishly want her to live, thrive, and write forever. :0) (I’ve preordered the paperback version of a new J.D. Robb book that will be delivered in December, and she has a newer hardback coming out in February…)
I think you already know that I’m a champion procrastinator, having given myself several awards for it over the years. (Everyone should be good at SOMETHING. :0) ) My latest procrastination is about bookkeeping. I’m TRYING to make myself catch up. I’m several months behind right now. As one of my friends, Maria, suggested about my dieting efforts – that I should break the big goal into doable chunks so it doesn’t seem to intimidating – I’m trying now to say ‘one month at a time,’ and have put the first one on my to-do-list for today, along with the removal of the tomato plants. Fingers crossed I can get it DONE.
After a lot of lightning overnight, we’re having a truly lovely day today. I will finish my blog writing and “have at” my to-do list. Have a great day!
Yet Another Character-Building Exercise
I wrote recently of keeping priorities straight and focusing on the good happening in the world. That doesn’t keep me from being aggravated that the book I ordered – that was SUPPOSED to ship yesterday – did not.
If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that one of my favorite authors is Nora Roberts /J.D. Robb. “Faithless in Death,” the newest paperback in the In Death series by J.D. Robb, was supposed to ship yesterday. I had pre-ordered it, then re-read the 51 previous books in the series to be ready for the new addition.
I received an email from Amazon yesterday, saying the shipment had been “delayed.” No explanation as to why, or when it WOULD be shipped. Arrrgh!
To help myself wait for the new addition, I bought and read her “Sign of Seven Trilogy” – Blood Brothers, The Hollow, and The Pagan Stone.
Patience is not my strong suit. I am TRYING to keep my bubbling personality, but you may be able to hear my teeth gnashing…

I received paperback book #50 in the “In Death Series” by J.D. Robb (pen name of Nora Roberts) yesterday. I am re-reading book #48 right now. I love it when I can dive into a book and leave my concerns behind for awhile. I won the lottery when I found Nora Roberts. She has given me hours of pleasure and escape over the years. I hope she has made a gazillion dollars and lives to be at least 200, writing steadily to feed my hunger for more great characters and stories.

I’m thoroughly enjoying re-reading J.D. Robb’s (Nora Roberts’) “In Death” series with the main character Eve Dallas, a homicide lieutenant in New York City in the future. I’m currently re-reading #38 (out of 49), and am looking forward to the newest one in paperback – #50 – which is due to be delivered on July 28th, and #51, which will be delivered the end of December. I feel rich when I have stacks of wonderful books I can dive into!

Reading Books via Stephanie Youmans Wilson
I have just pre-ordered the paperback versions of #50 and #51 of Nora Roberts’ “In Death” series. (#50 will be out in July and #51 at the end of December.)
The day before yesterday I settled down with #1 in the series, “Naked in Death” and thoroughly enjoyed the re-read. It was like seeing old friends after a long absence, even though “I” have changed a LOT since I first discovered the series. The characters remain fascinating to me, and the interaction and dialogue just as intriguing as the first time.
I have the ‘luxury’ in my ongoing maturity of forgetting many of the details of a book, so I can read them again with as much enjoyment, or more, than the first time, absorbing more details.
Roberts creates characters that are real. They all have their flaws and quirks and I find them endearing. I admire the main character, Eve Dallas, because she overcomes inner fears and doubts to do what she feels is right. She has quite high standards and won’t give an inch to achieve her goals. Quite a woman. My heart breaks for her, reading of her early life, and I find her endearing and believable.
I feel lucky to have found Nora Roberts as an author. She has given me countless hours of pleasure and a richness I wouldn’t have had, otherwise. I’ll enjoy living in Eve Dallas’ world through the first 49 books, and then welcome #50 in July.

I feel lucky because I’m in the middle of re-reading the Nora Roberts (J.D. Robb) “In Death” series and can escape whenever I can make the time and come out calm and refreshed. I love her writing. She creates incredibly deep characters you feel as if you actually know. You care about them, laughing and crying with them. I can’t think of a greater compliment to a writer for the readers to want to live in the world they have created and always want more.

I received my paperback copy of Nora Roberts’ “Connections in Death” – the latest in her “In Death” Series. I ordered it months ago and then tried to put it out of my mind instead of waiting, crossing off days, like a kid waiting for Christmas. Finally, I have it in my hands!
I’m re-reading the other 47 books in the series, thoroughly enjoying the escape of living in the gritty, absorbing world of Eve Dallas, a homicide detective in New York City in 2058 and beyond. I admire her strength, determination, absolute dedication to her job. I love the people in her world and how she reacts to them. I can dive in and lose myself and my worries for awhile, caught up in her latest case and situation.
Right now I’m on #10 – “Witness in Death.” When I finish the first 47 books, I’ll give myself permission to enjoy the latest.
I spent many, many years not really being able to make time for reading for pleasure. I was earning my teaching degree, then teaching full-time and taking night classes and summer school for my Master’s. It was YEARS before I could actually sit down, become absorbed in a book, relaxing – reading for the joy of it – finally realizing I wouldn’t be TESTED on it later. Now it’s one of my greatest pleasures. I’m grateful I found Nora Roberts years ago. Her books have reminded me of how beautiful life can be, full of humor, love, and interesting, good people. The In Death series is another part of that, with strong, sometimes wacky characters, who each have lovable flaws that bring you closer.

I finished re-reading the 46 books from the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts. I have to wait until December for the paperback of “Leverage in Death” to come out, so I downloaded “Year One” of a new series by Nora Roberts and wanted more when I finished it. Now I’m re-reading (for the umpteenth time) a trilogy by Nora called, “The Inn Boonesboro Trilogy.”
I love finding new authors, but I have to say that diving again into a series you love feels like getting into your most comfortable, snuggly clothes and reclining under a warm throw. Enjoying truly memorable characters, laughing again at the bright humor, opening your heart again – regardless of what is happening in your ‘real’ life – is one of life’s luxuries.

I just finished “A Mother’s Love” by Nora Roberts. It’s actually a reprint of one of the few books by Nora I’ve missed – “Dual Image,” and “The Best Mistake.”
I really like Nora Robert’s characters. They’re real. Many times they’re really clever, funny, smart. I WANT them to be real because I enjoy their world so much. I would love it if we could be friends. I don’t think there is a higher compliment to a writer that you keep all of their work in your personal library so that they can be enjoyed again and again.
Even though I’m sad to have left the worlds of Ariel and Zoe, I’ve already dived into “Come Sundown,” filled with more gutsy, interesting people I am enjoying meeting so much.
I can’t say enough about Nora’s work. Her creations have given me many hours of pleasure.

I’ve started book # 19 in the “In Death” series by Nora Roberts. There are 45 books – so far – in the series, so I feel as if I’m in Heaven, right in the middle of people I respect in complicated situations. Eve Dallas is a homicide police lieutenant. She is an extremely strong, dedicated cop who sees the worst society has to offer on a regular basis, some of which takes her back to an aggressively abusive childhood she has tried to put behind her.
I love the fact that she’s complicated. She has a very interesting husband who is sharing a completely different lifestyle than she’s ever know. I’m intrigued by her co-workers and friends. The stories are typically Nora Roberts, with well thought out plots I cannot figure out before the end of the book. You feel as if you KNOW all the characters and appreciate their quirks, vulnerabilities, and interesting interactions. You care about them.
So many authors who do series have a lot of repetition in them. Not so here, and I like that a lot.
I avoided this series for years, thinking that I liked Nora’s writing and subjects so well that I couldn’t imagine enjoying reading about death. I’m delighted that my friend, Marsha, got me started, buying the 1st book used on Amazon. I found an “order of the books” online and am ordering 6 at a time. I now have 26 in the series. What a lucky woman I am to have found another side of a favorite author! She has introduced me to a whole new world.

I’m on book # 16 in the “In Death” series by Nora Roberts. I have to ration myself to only so much diving into her books each day, or else I don’t get anything else accomplished.
I think I told you I love her romance novels – particularly her trilogies and quartets – and had avoided the “In Death” series because I just didn’t want a serious series from her. Was I wrong! I’m even more impressed with her writing ability now – if that’s even possible. In the “In Death” series, she has created a super strong, gritty, believable character in homicide detective Eve Dallas. The characters surrounding her become more and more fleshed out, making you care about the whole group as they deal with grisly murders. I’ve never been able to figure out who the bad guys are, or how she’ll get them, in the 15 books I’ve read thus far. I just want more.
If you haven’t tried one, I warn you that you may become addicted.
I’m starting “Portrait in Death” today.
