Monday Thoughts 11-24-2025

Sent to me by my good friend, Marsha.

This is my first time celebrating Thanksgiving in a totally new way. The Thai people, of course, don’t celebrate the holiday. My husband is in the nursing home getting sustenance from a nasal tube. My son and I will be hopefully celebrating by watching the installation of my new windows and window frames – either Wednesday or Thursday, we are told.

I’m celebrating by talking to you, sharing things I hope you’ll enjoy, sending some e cards to friends and family in the states. It’s different. It’s enough. I’m more than grateful to be with our son, planning for the future, making sure my husband is as well taken care of and comfortable as possible.

____________________________

We have already had a busy day today. We went to the gym as usual and shared breakfast. Then we went down to leave clothes at the laundry. While we were there, we met Khun Arm, the building maintenance man, who took us to a condo where there are windows very similar to what I will be getting. They had white frames instead of the black I have now. The windows I can open will be fixed with the new installation. They are small windows on either side of two much larger picture windows. In place of the picture windows will be two sliding glass and screens windows. This way, I’ll retain the wonderful access to my view AND be able to open my windows if I would like to! They will also be slightly tinted to cut the sun’s glare and heat. I will have the slideable windows in my bedroom and in the art alcove. I’m THRILLED!

________________________

After we met with Khun Arm, we went back down to get a jug of water for my place.

__________________________

I will finish writing posts for the blog, and then I plan to spend a good time in my art alcove. I’m trying to sketch 25 different Christmas cards to give to people here. I’m also painting a larger sketch from my sketch book every day. It’s a lot of fun.

__________________________

The dolphins jigsaw puzzle is coming along, though slowly. I move from working on that, to reading on my Kindle, to doing another stage of my painting or sketching, to checking on the wash out on the balcony, and back again. Sometimes I take a walk, still being careful to just stay close to my place, not trying to cross the super busy streets by myself yet. I’m slowly making judgments about when is a good time to cross. Sometimes Brian agrees. Sometimes not. He explains why when we get across the street. An example, it was MOSTLY safe to cross the other day. The street was pretty clear on one side. Traffic was really slowing on the other side, soon to be at a standstill. We didn’t see any motorcycles darting around the cars. We walked between two cars that were stopped. Then I started to go ahead. Brian stopped me, pointing to a motorcycle that had suddenly darted around the stopped cards. We waited for him to pass, and then got across the street. Whew!

________________________

The weather here is stellar. It’s 62 in the mornings now – a bit cool – but then warms up to the mid 80s in the afternoons. Cools down again in the evenings. Little or no rain!!!! Bright sunshine – but not boil-you-in-oil bright – yet. Couldn’t ask for more. I’m actually wearing layers at times now!

________________________

I hope the coming week is a wonderful, wonderful week for you. Have fun, get and give lots of hugs, laugh a lot, make memories.

A Little Progress!

Tamal – Freepik

I’ve only been home a little while. We’ve been out all day trying to tie up loose ends, and it’s 3:15 in the afternoon Monday here now.

We took the paperwork for Harvey’s medical visa to the visa lady, who looked through everything carefully, approved it for submission, updated Brian’s visa, and confirmed that I have an appointment at the immigration office tomorrow afternoon. Whew! HOORAAAY!

We went to visit Harvey after that. He was fairly talkative today. He did say he missed me, but everything else was about lost phones, wanting judo lessons, and an alien visiting his room last night – none of which were true. He wasn’t in pain, though, and wasn’t upset – a good visit for now.

The next stop was to one of Brian’s banks for a simple correction on his address. It turned out to be quite laborious, but we THINK we got it accomplished.

Lastly, we stopped for chocolate. YUM!

It rained twice while we were out, but we only got a little bit wet walking home from the chocolate place to our condo building.

I got my laundry inside from the drying rack on the balcony, and then started my normal afternoon activities.

I found out my computer was dead. Brian looked at things and showed me my air purifiers were off, too. We restarted those, but this showed us we had had a power outage while we were gone. I now know where the power button is on my computer and how to restart the air purifiers, so it was a good lesson.

I’m feeling pretty exhausted now, but I wanted to touch base with you before taking a nap. I hope you’re well and having a good day.

A Beautiful Day

Travel Pulse

This photo looks much like us yesterday. It started about 9:30 yesterday morning and continued until dinner time last night.

A bit of buying, selling, and giving away, freezer diving, and then just relaxing and visiting with lots of friends. Tears, memories, sharing, hugs, laughter – we had it all with people who have meant the world to us.

The part I clung to was that we can still communicate with text and email, plus the blog when I can get it going full speed again.

I have now shut down my Etsy site. Some sad thoughts, but mainly memories of people I’ve met, the joy of a sale, spending time in my art room, head brimming with ideas I wanted to try, and doing the work to list something on the site.

I look forward to finding out what kind of art people are doing in Thailand. I hope to find a group creating things that will allow me to watch and learn. Hopefully, I will be accepted into a group and make some new friends while maybe starting a new creative outlet for myself.

After a trip to the bank this morning, I’ll go visit another long time friend. We may have some more sales today.

There was one part of our trip that was bothering our son – the change of planes in Bangkok, bound for Chiang Mai. The time is really short. Our son would have simply RUN from one gate to the other if he were by himself. He found a service that will meet our flight in Bangkok, help us through what we have to do there, and carry us to the next gate. We are all relieved.

Leaving Wednesday evening seems a little bit surreal, still, but plans are solidifying by the hour at this point. I will try to at least leave a blurb via my phone starting on Wednesday morning, so you can travel with us, and will get back to full mode as soon as soon as we can arrange it.

My husband wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so we’re up early so we can get to our clinic when the doors first open so we can see someone even though we don’t have an appointment. I hope they can help him feel better.

Our visit with Murray and John yesterday couldn’t have gone better. We had lots of laughs, good conversation, good food, and lots of hugs. In the parking lot after, I gave them the gifts I brought, and they seemed to be pleased. We will still be able to communicate after the move, so that was comforting all of us.

Today I’ll call and arrange for the company to pick up the oxygen and supplies. I haven’t had to use it for over two weeks now, so feel confident I can put that need behind me.

I’m also hopeful I will hear from the vet today or tomorrow. I really hope that he reconsiders and can take our pets. We’re working on other things outside of that, too. I will be anxious until we figure out something for them.

Enjoy your celebration of St. Patrick’s Day today.

For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way –
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.

Our sweet dog, Amber, is shaking her ears this morning. We dosed her with the ear cleaner and then the medicine to be squirted way down in her ear and we’ll see what happens. I plan to dose her once each day and then, if that doesn’t stop the problem, we’ll face trying to get her in and out of the vet’s office without incident.

I put a turkey breast into the oven with the timer set for 90 minutes when we left yesterday to get groceries. The timer was beeping when I came back in the house. I don’t know how long it had been beeping, but the turkey breast seemed to be fine. I’ll slice a bunch of it today and we’ll enjoy turkey sandwiches for dinner tonight.

I got a notice in my email that a sign I ordered for my husband is due to be delivered today. It’s a funny one that I hope will make him laugh. If we get it, I’ll take a pic and share it with you.

Hope your Monday is a good one.

needle felting-Moo Mucca-Pinterest

We’ve had a busy day and a half.

Last night my husband came in from mowing, saying the steering was broken on the riding mower. We found that Sears could send a repairman today, so we made an appointment. When my husband got online to look for repair parts for the mower, we found our age-old problem (if you’ll pardon the expression) that the mower was now SO OLD that NO repair parts or compatible parts were available. I then called Sears back and cancelled the service call for today.

Sears isn’t good about communicating with its employees, so a really nice guy showed up a little after 7 this morning. I told him we had cancelled the appt and apologized for wasting his time and gas. He stayed to chat about my husband’s Vette, and then asked if he could see the mower. I made sure we wouldn’t be charged for a service call and the three of us went out to the shop. He agreed that though the mower was a really good one, it would take someone who would machine the parts needed, and would cost a lot of time and effort. He said HE was too old to tackle it, and he’s 20 years or so younger than we are.

We had researched riding mowers on the net, and went early today to three places in Greenwood who might have something close to what we wanted. We ended up ordering online from a company who will deliver the mower to us FREE Friday, assembled and ready to go. We had to pay more than we wanted, but we should be well set up for the rest of our mowing lives when we get it.

He told me he felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders. I made sure he knows AGAIN how much he means to me, and that he shouldn’t HAVE to feel obligated to keep taking things apart and making them work anymore, particularly when no parts are available and the project would probably take the rest of the summer or longer. We can bite the financial bullet and DO this.

So, it’s 11:00 here now and we’ve been to three places in town, come back, gathered trash, and driven it down to the bottom of the driveway, gotten our mail, taken a non-service call, ordered the mower, and all before lunch.

Guess who will probably take a nap after lunch…

I’m having some difficulty waking up this morning. My husband is sleeping in. I have the morning chores done and the only other thing we have to do today is gather our trash and drive it down. I like unscheduled days like this.

Art Room

I finished a group of 10 greeting cards this morning that feature a feather as a bird with a bird quote. I’m going to list them on Etsy today.

One of the group of 10

I hope the day ahead is a wonderful one for you.

Yesterday I brought a cloth ‘tray/basket’ from the pantry into the office and put it on the counter between my computer set-up and one of our printers. Jet immediately checked it out, clawed it a bit, and then made herself comfortable.

This morning she gave me a start when I was letting Amber back into the house. Jet was starting to squeeze under the dog gate that is between the kitchen/dining area and the living room. I managed to shut the door and encourage the cat to get on the other side of the gate. I then let Amber in, where she is between that gate and the one to the utility room.

The cat tower is due to be delivered by Fedex today between 10 and 2 today, according to an email they sent this morning. Since our driveway is such a mess, the guy will probably leave it at the bottom of the driveway. I’m hoping that if he does, he’ll send us an email saying it has been delivered. My husband and I will have to drive down and wrestle the heavy box into the back of the truck, and then into the house.

I’ll feel more comfortable when we have the tower assembled and installed – and the cat introduced to it – as that will give her another safe place to go if Amber scares her.

It certainly is a much more complicated task to get a cat and dog to accommodate each other when neither is a baby and the initial reaction is hissing and barking (from the cat and dog respectively). My husband asked last night how long I was going to go through all this, rather than simply ‘letting nature take its course.’ I told him that I would until I was sure that Amber wouldn’t eat or injure Jet, and that Jet wouldn’t scratch Amber, and that they seemed almost bored by things. Hopefully, my husband will continue to cooperate…

This photo gives you an idea of our driveway, although ours is longer, steeper, with trees on both sides, and heavy woods where you see grass here.

No driveway repair today. I didn’t receive a text last night, as the man said he would send the night before they would be here to do the job. The weather has been really awful, putting them way behind on what they have already contracted to do for others. Until that is caught up, they won’t start on ours. The forecast for the week is rain and severe weather at LEAST for Wednesday and Thursday, if not more. UGH.

______________

Other than possibly receiving and putting together the cat tower today, we don’t have any other plans. I’m hoping for a quiet, calm day.

Oh… SNOW…..

5 News Viewer

Officially, we got about 2 inches of snow. I say, ‘officially,’ because official statistics usually don’t apply to being on top of our ridge line outside of Greenwood, which is outside of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

However much we got, you can no longer see that we HAVE a concrete pad in front of our porch in the front of our house. You can no longer see that we HAVE a driveway at all. The temperature was 1 degree this morning, according to the local weather office. It’s 8 here now with a wind chill. Even if the sun came out and the temperature went above freezing (not expected until at least Wednesday) our driveway will be the last thing in the city to thaw.

(To the left of the woodpile in this photo is the top of our driveway. 650+ feet down the hill is the street. This is on the north side of our property.)

We are very lucky because our water pipes are still good and haven’t burst. We learned the hard way on that the first winter we were here, with the pipes bursting under the utility room bathroom. We had to have the floor dug up, the pipes repaired, etc. Expensive, well-remembered event.

Now we run a steady stream of water in that bathroom sink. We keep the cabinet doors open and have an electric heater that turns itself on if the temperature goes to a certain level. We have two other bathroom sinks in the house that are in jeopardy and do the cabinet doors and running water thing there, too. Our water bill will be astronomical, but much less expensive than burst pipes.

We have an electric heater in the well house that turns itself on, as well. We noticed a lower water pressure this morning. Usually, I wash my hair in the kitchen sink, with our tankless water heater making the water hot toward the end of my wash. Apparently the water pressure was low enough the tankless wasn’t sensing properly. Anyway, I had a really eye-opening hair wash this morning before the water finally started warming up.

I’m very thankful that we have intact water pipes, running water in the house if we want it. We’re warm and dry. I can complain as I refill the bird feeders on the deck, then come back in to the warm and cozy. Since we’re snowed in until further notice, we’re as well off as anyone could be.

I checked on significant people in my life this morning and all are well. Life is good (but I still have the petition here to sign if you want the rest of the winter scrapped and to move right on to spring.)

Rainy Monday 1-8-2024

mariateresadebracamonte.wordpress.com

We got our morning stuff done (gathering and putting trash at the bottom of the driveway for pick up tomorrow, getting mail, replenishing groceries in CASE the weather folks are right about snow tomorrow) are back home now with things put away. We got drenched several times. It seemed to ME that Mother Nature was laughing her head off at us, in that every time we got out of the car, the rain “turned on” – coming down in a whoosh – and then stopped when we were inside, over and over. Anyhow, her reason for the giggles is over now. We’re in for the rest of the day now.

I listed the 7 pairs of wood-burned wooden earrings I made recently on Etsy yesterday. Some are just wood burned. Others are also painted. I’m going to play in my art room this afternoon (I think) and see what else I can come up with. I’m enjoying trying to get the feel of the tool, learning what the different tips can do, and experimenting with creating designs.

Right now I’m fighting on the phone about a messed-up order. Hope your day is now going better than mine. :0)

Canva-Parade

I finally received my protection stuff – goggles, finger protectors, and a mask – yesterday. I’ll work on clearing off my drafting table so I can get set up for experimenting with my new Dremel etcher and my new wood burning tool!

In the meantime, I’ve sold several things from my Etsy site in the past week or so. (I’ve been doing a total rework of my site, trying to make it look as nice as I can, changing my pricing, rearranging my items, adding more, etc.) I don’t know if it’s just coincidence or if more people are able to find my site. Whatever it is, it’s a lot of fun to be filling sales. :0)

I feel as if I just woke up, but the morning is half gone already! I’ll stop with the computer stuff after this for awhile, get our errands and chores for the day done, and then come back.

I hope you’re having a nice day.

Life is Too Short

This morning we fought our way through what my husband calls, “The Mommy Traffic” where moms are dropping their kids off at school in order to get Amber to the vet’s office for her leg surgery and the fine needle aspiration of the lump in her neck.

We made a quick trip to Walmart and then my husband suggested we have breakfast at The Dari, one of our favorite places in Greenwood. I’m on DAY 3 of my Intermittent Fasting addition to my diet and managed to get a pound off this morning, so I thought, “No.” THEN I started fighting with myself. We eat breakfast at The Dari after we get blood tests for upcoming doctor visits – that’s twice a year. What is one more time in the grand scheme of things. If I do the fasting like I should all the other days, wouldn’t that outweigh one breakfast with my husband? We ate there, both enjoying a big, no-holes-barred breakfast, where every bite was delicious, and we also splurged with orange juice. It was wonderful.

We are ready to leave our trash at the bottom of the driveway when they call and tell us Amber is ready to be picked up. Now is the hard part of the day – the waiting. The lady at the vet’s office said they might call or text with updates, but that Amber would definitely be ready to be picked up after 4pm today. (They close at 5:30). Our vet suspects cancer, so I don’t want to be waiting for a call. The lady said they might or might not know the results of the test today. Part of me is hurting already. The other part is numb. Part of me is watching my cell phone. The other part wants to go somewhere and cover up my head. Wishing I had a magic wand…

I love Phyllis Harris’ work. She has several books and coloring books on Amazon. :0)

STUPID MOVE OF THE DAY –

I won this contest hands down (pun intended) yesterday. I needed to open a box of baking soda in order to pour it into an over-center container I use. I was using the scissors to open the top more and ‘suddenly’ the handles of the scissors snapped shut, pinching my hand just below my thumb. It happened really fast, hurt like crazy, and had me bleeding all over the place. Thankfully, I was in the kitchen where it could be wiped up, band-aids found, etc. I only have a little bruise today. It isn’t even very sore. The intense feeling of stupidity remains.

My outdoor to-do list for today is 4 planters around our garage pad. (There are two small ones and two regular-sized brick ones. ) If I can get them done, I’ll post pics later.

Nursery World

If I finish those, I’ll try to get to my art room this afternoon. I’m still practicing with the pen type engraver. It’s a good thing I have a lot of practice time. The jury is still out on whether I can actually do well enough to create the Christmas presents of etched glass I’m envisioning. I’m also having a great time producing some signs with sayings I like.

Home Again

It’s totally uncivilized outside. The heat simply smacks you in the face the minute you step outside and doesn’t release you until you’re lucky enough to find some air conditioning. I’m feeling really lucky, now that we’re home again from errands, that we have a good system and can stay cool. Our animals go out, stay a minute or two, and then want to come back inside.

We have our bug spray guy coming between 2 and 4 today, to spray for things known or unknown, large and small, dangerous or merely annoying, hosing out place down inside and out. He’s wonderful.

I’m amazed that we have anything living outside at this point. Our elephant ear plants that came up late seem to be doing fine, though.

We went to check on the bridge replacement project on the way home from errands. There were workers there, and they were moving the machinery around, but we couldn’t tell what they were doing. They are moving very slowly on this project. I’ll be grateful if the new bridge is open by the end of the year, judging by the speed now.

WHAT?

As you can see, Fort Smith and Greenwood (and Fayetteville – where my sweet cousin Murray now lives – welcome to AR, Murray! :0) ) are in an ‘excessive heat warning’ today, with ‘feels-like’ temps of between 110-120. UGH.

We’re getting ready to drive our trash down and do some errands before coming home and being inside the rest of the day. Our wonderful bug spray guy (who sprays for everything, including elephants) is due to come this afternoon.

I got started yesterday etching the glassware I’m working on, putting my initials and the year on the bottom of the glasses. I decided that I want a smaller Dremel that has variable speeds and is smaller and lighter in order to hopefully increase my control. I have that ordered, and so will switch to some other things I want to try in my art room until the new one arrives.

Hoping for a quiet, albeit too hot, day. I hope you’re safe and happy wherever you are.

I had fun in my art room yesterday. I’m doing one part of the Christmas cards at a time, then letting them dry. I’m trying to make stylized Christmas wreaths using a multi-media approach, and I’m having a blast using different media and experimenting with different techniques. There is a definite freedom know that if they’re a disaster (as the first ones were) there is a place waiting in the trash can and I can start again. :0)

I got the masking tape on one of the glasses yesterday. I’m trying to get up the courage to try the liquid etching system. I’ve never done this before, so I’m working VERY slowly, reading the directions over and over before actually taking the plunge. Maybe I’ll work myself up to try the first one today. If not, I can do more of the masking tape stage on the other glasses.

___________

Exciting things for the day include gathering the trash, driving it down to the bottom of the driveway, getting our mail. Be still, my heart.

“The Last Flight of the StarLeap” by Simon Panneton

I’m having real trouble getting much done since I found this book. This is the first book by Simon Panneton. “Follow (12-year-old) Ellie as she joins a ghost on a swashbuckling, against-all-odds (sci-fi) adventure to reunite long-lost lovers.”

This is not my normal reading choice, but I’m finding it hard to put down. Ellie has my heart. She’s an orphan who has essentially shut down emotionally. Sharing her life as she opens up, surprising herself as much as everyone else how courageous she is in tackling whatever is in the way of her goals, opening her heart as she goes, is a thrilling experience.

I’ve finished about 2/3 of the book and am TRYING not to simply sit in my chair and read until I find out how her story ends…

Inkognito-17822-PhotobyTweeling17-Flickr-SuzanVisser – Morgentoilett-17822

Are you brimming with energy, eager to start a brand new week? Neither am I. :0)

I’m still licking my wounds received from my “weeding-the-garden/harvesting-the-sweet-red-onions” project. Even though I was careful, hosing down the remaining garden boxes with Seven, I got bitten/stung by several ants on my right arm. So now I’m sporting BOTH arms swollen and pink with raised welts and stings. I’ve tried popping the little bumps to get the stuff out, but it seems to make it take longer to heal, plus I read that spreads bacteria and might lead to infection, so now I just take my allergy medicine, wash the area well, take Tylenol, and put anti-itch ointment all over the area. My husband winces in sympathy every time he looks at me. I did get the project finished, though, and will rest today.

123RF.com

My long-time Lunch Bunch friend, Linda, is not doing well. Her daughter is trying to get her to a doctor today. If she can’t, she’s taking Linda to the hospital. I’m hoping someone can figure out what the problem is and do something to make her feel better.

I wanted to share this with you. The contestant is from Ukraine. Rea Garvey (coach) and his wife found a family in Ukraine and have opened their home to them. He wrote and sang a song to try to convince Yasya to choose him as her coach. There is still good in the world.

Yoga Journal

Today is DAY 59 of my daily yoga practice. I really wanted to skip it yesterday after two sessions weeding the garden and the ant bites/stings, but I did it anyway. Today should be easier, since I’m taking it easy today.

Make this the best day possible.
