I will leave soon to get a massage this morning.

I discovered how amazing it is several years ago when I was working as a medical transcriptionist/bookkeeper for a medical office that included 8 busy general surgeons. I had worked so long and hard trying to keep up with things – working 12 to 14-hour days – that I was unable to take my blouse off over my head at night.

I went to the doc who recommended I continue my swimming and whirlpool at the local gym after work, but also to add massages. My insurance wouldn’t cover massages, but I decided I really needed help.

Long story short, the massage therapist saved my life. It took several weeks of two massages per week, but she unknotted my back and neck miraculously.

Even though I am working for myself now, I consider massage an important part of taking care of myself.

My therapist is having surgery next month, so it will be a character-building exercise for selfish me to wait until she is thoroughly healed (I think in March) and we can continue.

Massage is a wonderful gift you can give yourself to help you deal with the rest of your life without ending up with your body in a knot. :0)

I have been encouraging Lynn Moody, my miraculous massage therapist, to help me with this problem.

She does a wonderful thing by pulling on each of my arms and legs, plus my head, during each massage. (She is quite tactful – not saying anything about ‘pulling my head out of my ___.’ ) Not only does this FEEL great, I’m hopeful that if she REALLY works on it, I will get taller.

If I can get taller by about 4 inches, it would solve my lardage problem AND allow me to retrieve things that are out of my reach now!

Maybe she will redouble her efforts if I take her some chocolate at my massage this week…

I’m leaving in about 20 minutes to get my massage for the month. I couldn’t be looking forward to it more.

I lucked into Lynn Moody, one of the best massage therapists – and people – on the planet. She finds all my sore areas – and they are legion right now – and kneads them out of me. The only problem is that once I’m like a bowl of jelly on the table, I have to get up and drive home.

If you are in the Greenwood, Arkansas area, call Lynn Moody, 479-629-7601 and prepare to be healed.

Warning: It’s addictive.

I used to think that massage was an indulgence.

For 8 years I did the medical transcription and bookkeeping for a busy 8 general surgeons office in Fort Smith. I routinely worked overtime, trying to keep up, sometimes working 10 and 12 hour days. I gradually got to the point that I was so messed up that I was unable to pull my shirt over my head at night. I finally saw a doctor and he recommended several things to help me, one of which was massage. Happily, there was an exercise place very near the medical clinic, so I started going every day after work, and once a week I got a massage. Gradually, I regained my health.

I stopped getting a massage because I told myself I was better, and it was really expensive getting a massage weekly. I had stopped working at the clinic and didn’t want to drive to Fort Smith (45 minutes each way).

I don’t remember how I met Lynn Moody, my miracle working massage therapist here in Greenwood, but I am thankful every day that I did. I now get a massage once a month, and I cannot say enough about how much I get from it. When you find a good massage therapist, you can fully relax, knowing you’re in good, caring hands. You can talk or not talk. I use this time to catch up with Lynn, since I consider her a good friend, as well as a miracle worker. I leave feeling relaxed and able to tackle whatever happens in a much better frame of mind.

A good massage therapist finds all the places that you didn’t even realize were tied in a knot. She listens and focuses on areas you do know about. I definitely need my massage once a month, but I don’t get like a pretzel anymore, so sore I can’t raise my arms, for example.

If you have erroneously considered massage therapy a ‘luxury,’ an ‘indulgence,’ putting it in the category of ‘things-you-can-do-without,’ I hope that you will reconsider.

It is now one of the main things I do to take care of myself –  part of my healthcare. It would be one of the LAST things I would stop doing if I really had to start cutting things due to money difficulties.

If you are in the Fort Smith/Greenwood/Hackett area in Arkansas, thank your lucky stars and call Lynn Moody.  320 South Coker Street, Greenwood AR. 479-629-7601.

If you live elsewhere, ask your friends if they know a good one and get started.  Your body will thank you.

There is no way to tell you how much I look forward to my monthly massage. Lynn Moody is my massage therapist. She is SO good. She listens. She can feel with her magic hands where you have knots, sore spots, stiffness and take them away. I can trust her to FEEL when what she is doing is too much. She knows what to do to ease whatever you walked in with.

I’m not sure if I particularly needed her today or if she just was able to reach me particularly well, but I feel really great right now.

I used to feel that massage was a total luxury. Now I consider it a taking-care-of-myself thing.

If you haven’t tried masage therapy and live in the Greenwood/Fort Smith/Hackett area, call Lynn Moody and make an appointment. It’ll be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. Her number is 479-629-7601.

If you live outside this area, FIND someone and start feeling better soon.

Ahhhh!

I’ve gone back and forth over the years on whether massage is a total luxury or absolute necessity. For the past several years I’m definitely leaning toward necessity.

My massage therapist, Lynn Moody, is a miracle worker. I always threaten to just stay on the table, refusing to leave after she kneads me into a relaxed puddle.

We talked today about why it’s so hard to relax. It doesn’t matter whether you really have problems that would tie anyone in a knot or not. The fact remains that we have trouble letting go. I consciously have to talk to myself (hopefully not aloud) saying, “relaxing jaw,” “relaxing face” as my DVD yoga instructor tells me. I don’t realize that I’m clenching my teeth and jaw, or that I’m not allowing myself to actually relax until I DO. It feels so GOOD!!!!

After Lynn tunes me up, I have more energy. My mood is much, much better, and I plan what good things I can accomplish when I get home.

If you’re considering massage a luxury you have trouble justifying in your budget, please stop it. If you don’t take care of yourself, you get sick. You hurt. You might bite the members of your family, lashing out basically because you’re uptight and can’t let go of all the things every day that tie us up.

If finances are tight, you might budget for this – acting as if it’s a trip to the doctor. You’ll thank yourself for it.
