I just love the artwork on this journal. The ‘light’ brings it from ‘good artwork’ to ‘wonderful!’ in my eyes. :0)

I got to spend a bit of time in my art room yesterday, working on etching a glass vase I started a long time ago. I had done the outline of a floral design on the vase, but then got intimidated, so I put it aside while I concentrated on Christmas things. When I finally cleared off my drafting table,

I found the vase again and decided I would try to overcome my feelings of inadequacy and give it another shot. I actually had fun working on it yesterday. I have NO clue whether it will turn out anything like what I hoped for, but I have shed my ego and have just jumped into it, having fun and hoping for the best. I’m hoping to spend more time on it today.

We’re having a dreary-looking day here, but the temperature hasn’t dropped yet. It looks like the really cold weather is coming to us soon, and I’ll need to remember to open a few cabinets and drip water overnight in the next few nights. Did I tell you that I much prefer warmer weather?

My scales had to swallow a LITTLE bit of snark this morning. I will be happy if I can meet my interim goal of 50 pounds off in the near future. This morning I’m down 46.6.

My husband is trying to add a gadget to our TV. After trying and failing to get it to work, he dumped the project on ME – his technically-challenged spouse. It was a challenging afternoon, but I got a couple of the issues solved by unplugging the new gadget. :0) He was talking about plugging it in again, though, today…..

I wish you a wonderful day. I hope you do something fun today!

Goals

I don’t want to live to any particular age, but I would like to be as healthy as possible for as long as I can. I can’t control all of that, but I CAN control –

  • What I weigh
  • What I eat
  • How much exercise I get

As you know, I’ve been trying to lose the lard and move more. I’m about halfway to my goal now.

Eat Smart Move More NC

I started with a BMI of 34, which is labeled on the chart as “Obese.” Right now I have a BMI of 29, labeled as “Overweight.” I’m celebrating JUST being ‘overweight’ now. My goal is a BMI of 24, which is labeled “healthy weight.”

I’m eating a low-carb diet, trying to drink more water, and using MyFitnessPal daily to pay close attention to what I’m eating and drinking.

My moving more efforts include working in the yard, practicing ‘old lady’ yoga stretches, and various YouTube workout videos. I’m doing one now from Good Morning Fitness with stomach exercises done standing that don’t involve jumping. I also like a whole series with Mike from Australia. He has a website called More Life Health Seniors. I’m also trying to make myself at least walk around the house and out to the shop once a day.

I’ve started taking SuperFoodMD Fruits & Veggies supplements, a competitor to the much-advertised brand you see on TV. That one is too expensive for me, but this one costs less than half as much. (I put the two products side by side and they look like the same thing.) I eat basically the same thing for lunch every day, and we eat a somewhat limited number of low-carb dishes for dinners, mainly because my husband will only eat a handful of veggies. I hope that these supplements will help me make sure I’m getting what I need for good health.

I did a good job weed whacking yesterday, plus changing the used-up cord thingie for a new one to use today, but I seem to have overdone. I was really stiff and sore when I finished, so I went ahead and did my yoga VERY slowly and carefully. That made me feel a bit better, except when I tried to get out of my chair…

sent to me by a good friend.

I’m hoping I loosen up more as the day progresses. I would LIKE to finish the main weed whacking today (although this is essentially a never-ending project once the season starts) – this afternoon is supposed to be 67 degrees and a bit overcast. We’re supposed to get gusty winds starting about 6pm and lasting overnight with rain forecast for all day tomorrow. So I’m going to TRY to finish the front yard today (plus the small spot I couldn’t do yesterday in the back when I ran out of cord.)

Another good thing besides the extra exercise and fresh air I’m getting with the yard work is that another pound bit the dust yesterday. :0) Since I have more than several to spare, I would love to donate to the cause of people needing to gain weight on a regular basis.

This is my recent chart from MyFitnessPal. It is motivating to ME and keeps my eye on the ball to weigh in and record my weight each morning, good or bad. I have seen a pattern on logging my food, water, and exercise each day – when it says ‘You’re not eating enough,’ I tend to lose a bit of weight. When it says, “If things were based on today, you would weigh ___ in 5 weeks” I don’t lose anything. So, what I’m doing that seems to be working lately is watching my carb count like a hawk, trying to keep it to 20 for the day. I’m going to keep doing this and see what happens. I lost pound #23 yesterday.

We’re going to fill up gas cans today to use with the mower. My husband has now declared that the “Official Mowing Season for 2024” begins on April Fool’s Day. I’m trying to weed whack – keeping the riding mower in mind – so he can mow as easily as possible.

I hope that your Sunday is an enjoyable one.

I hope you remembered to change your clocks this morning. I keep reminding my husband to change his watch. I don’t know if he’s done it now or not. We are both having trouble changing the clock that lives in our entertainment center in the living room. I looked at it last night, pushed the buttons on its side one at a time, but there was no change. Then started pushing 2 buttons at a time, then got scared I would screw it up so it wouldn’t tell time at all and stopped. My husband doesn’t seem to be much better. We’ll tackle it together later. I got the rest of the clocks changed with the exception of our vehicles. Did I tell you I hate DST?

I read that two people have again created bills in Congress to address the problem and either go to DST or Standard Time. I won’t hold my breath on them even making it out of committee.

UPDATE – My husband woke up from his nap. I watched as he tried to set the clock. He couldn’t remember how to do it, but managed to hit upon it, so that is fixed. HOORAY!

I got a bit more weight off. I’m now down 21.6 pounds from my heaviest. Every little bit counts! :0) If I can just keep moving and keep my mouth shut…

Whereby.com is a nice video conference site that is secure and works well even when people are across the world from each other. Our son and I used it this morning and had a wonderful time. I LOVE being able to see his face.

He laughed when we compared ‘projects’ – he is doing some really technical stuff on the Internet and also making music with gadgets. And we are trying to set our clocks…. Although I’m proud of myself that yesterday when I came downstairs I heard a ‘chirping’ sound. I traced it to one of our smoke detectors. I got a stool, got the detector off the wall, opened it, changed the 9 volt battery, and put it back up on the wall. HOORAY!

No big plans for today. Our weather is nice. It’s 45 and sunny, with a great warm up coming next week. Just wonderful. I’ll try to arrange some time to work outside. There is SO much to do out there! My husband announced that he refuses to mow in March. I can’t blame him at all. I just told him to do what he wanted, but to make sure he was able to use the ride-on mower on the high grass when he was ready.

One of the next things I’ll do is see what veggie plants are available in town for my spring garden. I’m cutting way down on what I’m planting this year. I have three brick planters we converted to square garden planters with Mel’s Mix on the east end of the yard close to the house that I’ll use instead of my larger garden. I’ll plant lettuce and spinach in the 8 foot long planter and tomatoes in the two square ones. I’ll take pics as I get started.

I hope that today is a good one for you.

Happy Sunday!

It’s beautiful here in Arkansas today – 50 already and sunny, with a high of 67 forecast. I’ll take it and enjoy every minute!

This has been a productive week for me.

  • I lost 4 pounds this week, although no celebratory balloons yet. This is the loss of pounds I had GAINED over the past two months or so, so until I get into new territory, I’m just quietly pleased I’ve finally come up with an eating plan that seems to be working – at least so far.
  • I finished getting our tax stuff together. I’ll call first thing tomorrow to make sure they are open (President’s Day) before we make the trip to Ft. Smith, but we plan to leave it with our tax guy.
  • I’ve been spending time in my art room, working on a couple of projects and having a good time.
  • I’ve been cleaning some things in the house.

Also, in the “Big Relief” category –

  • My husband has ordered a used PC already assembled, that we hope we can use in the shop. After pricing the parts needed to rebuild one of the computers we had, we found out it was cheaper to do it this way. Hooray!
  • My husband suggested that we could have someone else change out the brake pads in the truck, rather than our trying to do this ourselves. Our appointment is tomorrow at 10:00. Hooray!

I hope today is a good one for you, too.

What If…

CoolFunnyQuotes.com

Tonight is our ‘shopping’ night.

This afternoon, the Real Food website will post its offerings for the week in its preorder section. We have been a bit disappointed the last couple of weeks because they haven’t had many options. They told me when we first found them that they were excited about expanding their selections in their brick and mortar store in Greenwood and would like to cut back on the online preorder stuff. We may have to change our habits and go into the store to see what is available if they continue this trend. We got spoiled really quickly. :0)

When we see what Real Food is offering, we will then consider ordering from Stu’s Clean Cookin.’ They were closed last week, reorganizing in order to drop the third party that was doing much of their prep and cooking in order to do it again themselves. They were unhappy with the quality of the meals, though we thought they were quite good. Their menu doesn’t seem to change. They have 17 meals, though, so there is a good variety.

Our routine now is to eat something frozen 5 nights a week. I then cook something on Saturday that covers us for Sat, Sun, plus maybe a lunch on Monday, depending on the recipe. (This weekend I’ll cook bacon-wrapped chicken breasts and we’ll have veggies or a salad on the side.) This routine helps us a LOT with portion control, is helping us lose the lardage, and allows us to concentrate on things other than food.

Weighty Issues

Bored Panda

I am encouraged this morning. I lost pound # 41. I think I am finally in a downward trajectory after a LONG time of the scales frowning or smirking at my efforts.

What is helping now is the advent of two new frozen food places in Greenwood: Real Food and Stu’s Clean Cookin’. Both are excellent. We find very few things we don’t care for (a really welcome thing after a LONG time of being very unhappy). The portions are controlled. We eat the meal, sometimes licking the container. (SHHHH!) We are okay when we finish. Our stomachs don’t think our throats have been cut. We certainly don’t feel stuffed, but we aren’t feeling deprived. The food is GOOD.

We build our day around this meal. We don’t eat breakfast. We have tuna fish salad for lunch – and I have green olives and my husband has sweet pickles. We eat a snack mid afternoon if we need it. We are trying really hard not to have ‘a little snack’ before bed.

I’m drinking a LOT of water (for me). My eyeballs are floating. I get lots of exercise running to the bathroom. :0) Otherwise, I’m working in the yard this time of year, plus doing my elliptical trainer several times a week, plus trying to do my yoga stretches on a daily basis. This varies, depending on how MUCH I’m working in the yard.

I’m happy not having to figure out what to cook every night. I cook something each weekend. I have a full plate on my to-do list that keeps me busy and active. If I can continue like this, I am a happy camper.

My husband and I are going to celebrate my decision by cooking out tonight, having grilled steaks and baked potatoes. What a load off to have changed my focus! :0)
