Building Enclosure

This is forecast for Oklahoma and Arkansas this afternoon into this evening. I got out and took some pics of our blooms this morning, just in case this is the last we’ll see of them –

Walking around outside lately has really brought my spirits up. There is a LOT to do in the yard, but the first thing – assuming the storms this afternoon and evening leave us intact – is to look for veggie plants to start my spring garden tomorrow. If I do, I’ll take some pics to share.

If the weather allows, I’ll try to work in the yard a bit today. If not, I’m planning to spend some time in my art room. A nice day either way.

I hope the weather is good where you are, OR that you ‘weather it’ well. :0)

Dog Gone!

“Dorky Dogs” – BoredPanda.com – Liucija Adomaite and Justinas Keturka

I just love this photo. For some reason it makes me smile and feel happy.

Our tomato plants and veggie boxes came through the last storm intact, thank goodness. I don’t remember having much hail, except for maybe a small amount of hail you could hardly see or hear, in the past. The last two storms have really gotten our attention.

We watched in amazement as the hail came down storm before last, bouncing all over the yard. It looked like each hail ball bounced up about a foot after it hit initially.

The last storm the sound was so loud I almost had to cover my ears with my hands, and we heard a few loud cracks as big pieces hit. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it broke a window.

I’ll call on Monday to see if our insurance agent will come out and check us out for any damage, but I’ll make sure he knows that we aren’t priority. We can’t see any damage, but we can’t get up on the roof and check things out more closely as we used to.

Today it’s much cooler – the reason for the storms. We’re only supposed to have a high in the low 60’s, rather than the low 80’s we’ve been having. The sun is shining its face off. You’d never know Mother Nature has been so angry.

I spent all day and into the evening washing all the king-sized sheets I used to try to protect the plants. All are in a trash bag now, ready to be stored in the garage for the next storm. I really hope we’re getting to the end of all this. I’ll try not to gripe when the heat settles in for the summer, baking us, with no rain in sight. :0)

I’ll take some time later today to see more closely how the veggie planters are doing. I know I need to do some pruning and weeding – and might be able to bring in some lettuce and spinach leaves!

I hope you’re having a beautiful Saturday.

Our Plants Survived!

I went outside with trepidation a few minutes ago to see what was left after the wave after wave of hard storms we had yesterday and throughout the evening. I noticed hail hitting the dining area window a couple of times and feared my new tomato plants and veggie garden would be beaten to death. As you can see from the photo above, the tomato plants in this planter are fine! Hooray!!!!!

This is the second planter for tomatoes. This one is more sheltered than the other, but nothing will help when hail is coming down. I was really relieved to see all the sweet tomato plants are still doing well.

I walked to the other end of our property where our raised bed square foot garden is. I could tell the water came up high on the plants before draining out, but nothing seems to be broken or beaten down.

This shows you some of the head lettuce and the red onions.

A couple of spinach plants, but mainly head lettuce.

And the spinach. As you can see, the plants were almost covered with water and soil by the storm, but then the drainage did it’s job.

We seem to be due for more storms tomorrow, but we have dodged another bullet, and I’m grinning from ear to ear.

Lucky

NMgnCP.com

We had several impressive rain storms yesterday, into the evening, and overnight. Our greenhouse is still standing. We just had a leak on the back porch. People in the Rye Hill area of Fort Smith, AR weren’t so lucky.

The adjuster came early this morning to check us out. Our roof is fine, thank goodness. There is some hail damage on the wind turbines, but no problem with that. After careful looking inside and on the roof, the adjuster said he thinks that some FlexSeal – or similar product – sprayed heavily along the seam where the main roof meets the roof of the porch will stop the leak.  The damage inside isn’t much and we may just ignore it.

The poor adjuster has a long day ahead of him. He had 14 calls to make today. He said he would probably be busy with the calls they got last night for the next couple of months.  At least he has job security…
