Good Morning!

I hope that you are having a good morning.

We have two more rainy days before things MAY try to dry out some.  We were out doing errands in the rain most of the day yesterday, and may need to do that again today. Our weather has been really different this year.  There was a pharmacist who came in while we were waiting. She had on wonderful bright red rain boots that came up almost to her knees. I WANT SOME! :0)

As soon as we start getting dry days, I will hose down my garden with EIGHT bug spray, hopefully murdering thousands of the ants who have made a home there. We live on approximately 8 acres, and I have NO idea why they decide to live in boxes that are several feet off the ground that get watered daily and bothered by me when I’m planting, watering, weeding, or harvesting. I still have their bites/stings from my partial onion harvest the other day, having to use allergy medicine and ointment to live through the welts, discomfort, and intense itching. There will be no mercy.

We should be getting our first week’s worth of BistroMD prepared meals this week. They suggest that you begin the program on a Monday so that you’re in sync with the next week’s delivery schedule, so we plan to do that.

I’m feeling the urge to get rid of things again. It may have been brought on by having to clean everything out of the greenhouse that was ruined by the recent storm, but I’m going with it. I will plan to gather at least a couple of extra leaf bags of trash each week. I will gather things to donate as I can. I’m getting more and more ruthless as I do these ‘sweeps,’ and that’s a very good thing. My husband and I are both savers, and we have lived in our home for over 30 years now, so this is an ongoing, HUGE job. I’m thinking that this time I will start in our bedroom…

Try to make this a beautiful day – whatever the weather.

Last Day of February 2018

FillMeOut-100+BestGMPics

Good Morning! I LOVE this cup and wish it were mine. Kudos to the person who created it. :0)

I’m having a quiet day today after finishing the clean out of my art room last night. There will ALWAYS be things to go through or things to tidy up, but the main job is finished. I’m able to sit down on any of three chairs or stools and work at any of 4 counters or tables! My husband’s reaction was, “You still have a lot of stuff,” obviously underwhelmed by my days of working in there.  However, “I” know what a mess things were in. I’ve made decisions on what kinds of art I’m still interested in doing and have given away a LOT of supplies to people I hope will enjoy using them.

My goal for this year is to purge  – we have over 30 years of ‘stuff’ – to make one donation to the Veterans Thrift Store in Fort Smith and one donation to our local library each month. As of this last day of February, we have made

  • 2 donations to the Vets and 1 donation to the library in January
  • 3 donations to the Vets and 0 donations to the library in February. (Obviously, I need to concentrate on a book donation).

I’ll see if I can get that together for later today.

We woke up to a clogged septic system this morning. Happily the man who works closely with our plumber on this type of this says he will be out later stoday to help us. He has two other to get to before us. I’m really grateful that we have such reliable people on which we depend.

The doggies have been out, the stew is in the crock pot, and “most all ” is right with the world.

I hope that YOU have a good day, too.

Good Morning!

We’re having a quiet, wet, cool morning here in Arkansas.

It’s 50 degrees, and there is either a ‘heavy mist’ or a ‘light drizzle,’ making it feel a bit raw if you’re out walking the dog.

Speaking of the dog,

Amber is 8 months old today. Last night she was doing her “lap dog” trick, climbing up onto my husband while he’s in his recliner.( This is pretty impressive because she weighs around 70 lbs now. )  I looked over at them and said, “Oh, you look like a happy girl!” and suddenly she JUMPED from my husband’s chair to MINE! Her paws or toenails grazed my arm as she landed; so, not only was I sitting, completely squashed by a dog desperately trying to lick my face, but I was yelling for my husband to bring band-aids! I wasn’t hurt badly, and I’m used to wearing band-aids as a fashion statement, although it doesn’t happen often anymore.  Needless to say, we will discourage this ‘trick’ in the future.

In a couple of hours we’ll meet our good friend, Carla, for lunch in Greenwood at the new restaurant that just opened, called, “Shipwrecked.” They specialize in fish and chicken. I’m excited to visit the new place!

This afternoon I’ll be up in my art room, working on making Christmas presents for friends.

NICE day. I hope yours is fun, too.

Good Morning!

Source Unknown

I found this a long time ago and neglected to get the source. There is a signature across the the image between the leaf and the butterfly on the right, but I can’t make it out. Sorry. I think this is really, really nice.

I hope you’re having a good morning, too.

The ham radio operators are having the 2nd day of their annual field day today in Bell Park, Greenwood, Arkansas. Sometime yesterday a 24-hour contest began to see who could get the most contacts in a 24 hour period at a certain bandwidth. Last year there were about six different bandwidths represented. This contest is across the WORLD. Each operator uses his ham radio call sign, making contact with someone. They exchange call signs, recording them to be verified later. There is no ‘prize’ as such, but the winners are announced and bragging rights will never end. :0)  When we were watching and listening a couple of years ago, one man was talking to someone in Uruguay!

The work on my husband’s new-to-him antenna. He’s having a good friend come over and help him make the rotor work as it should this coming week. Meanwhile, he’s built the base it will sit on and is working on the complex 4-plex antenna that will sit on the top.  When we were talking about it yesterday, I suggested we assemble the whole thing on the ground and then hire probably the smallest crane there is to come help the two guys pull the whole thing up and hold it while things are tightened, guy wires are hooked up, wiring is finished, etc. My husband thought about it for a bit and then said, “You know, that’s actually a good idea!” (I ignored the fact that he sounded surprised :0/)

I’m going to put my different style thermometer up in the greenhouse today, and plan to start some spaghetti squash seeds to see if they’ll make. I’m also planning to attack weed trees with a vengence – if the temperatures will stay at some reasonable level. If not, I’ll see what I can do this evening.

I hope you have a wonderful day, too.

Good Morning!

Mary Frey

It was really foggy when I went out to walk Amber – our maniac puppy – this morning. The spiders had been busy making webs anywhere they could find. The light caught them just right, making them sparkle. Even if I had had my camera with me, the morning walk with Amber is much too intense for her to allow me a moment to try to capture the beauty of nature.

The ground was super wet, and special spiders had gone to work there, too, with white irregularly-shaped webs in the grass. Amber had no respect for their artistry, though, crashing through them in her quest to chase the new smell or sight.

Today would be a good day to try to put the film on the greenhouse, except we have an appointment in Fort Smith this morning. We’ll lose too much time while the temperature isn’t set to roast whoever is dumb enough to be out in it this afternoon. It looks like tomorrow will be a good day to tackle a project that – once started – there aren’t many good places to stop and take a rest.

Today we’ll probably put up the last of the framework on the greenhouse and then get set up to put the film on. The other day I cut a bunch of pieces of 1×2’s so that we can wrap the edge of the film around each and then screw the combination to the foundation boards. At least, that’s the plan.

We bowled last night – for the first time in a LONG time, due to our mens’ surgeries – and we had a blast. We didn’t set any records with our scores, but we caught up with what’s been happening to each of us, PLUS had ice cream at Braums afterwards. :0)
