SK – Pinterest

We haven’t had TV cable service since October 7th. I contacted our Internet provider again yesterday morning, wanting an update. The tech answered, saying that they were suspending providing TV service immediately, since the provider with whom they were partnered had unsolvable problems.

SO. My husband decided he wanted to try to get YouTube TV, and we spent an exhausting day on that. I finally called it a night at 11:00. We made some progress, but still have a lot to do to get it running, with sound, and so that we can actually USE it. Suffice to say, I’ll spend the day trying to keep my mouth firmly shut, and will stay clear unless he asks for my help.

ChaiaCreates on Etsy

I finally received the earrings yesterday I ordered some time ago. “Something happened,” and apparently the package was lost in the ozone. I contacted Chaia and she said she would get another pair in the mail ASAP. Some time passed again. I was just about to contact her again and she wrote, saying the earrings had been mailed. A few days later, I got them. They look just like they do in this image. I think they’re wonderful, and I don’t have anything like them. Except for the delivery time. I’m very happy.

TENS unit starter kit

My good friend, Marsha, sent me this! We are really good friends and communicate at least daily; and better, sometimes several times during a day. Even though she’s across the country from me, she is my CLOSE friend. She has used this TENS system to alleviate her pain for some years now and wanted me to have one. I’m really touched that she would get me this starter kit, plus extra electrodes. :0)

My husband likes it really cool and really dark to sleep. I’ve gotten used to moving around with the use of a couple of extremely dim lights – a night light behind a curtain under the window, and the other the residue from a shaded light out in the hall from our 2nd floor thermostat. I walk toward the bathroom with my arm straight out in front of me so I don’t bash into the bathroom door when I get up to pee. :0)

The sheet, light velour blanket and comforter were more than he needed, but I was freezing. Yesterday when we changed the sheets, we put our electric blanket back on. The added weight of that blanket really helped me sleep better. AND, if I need it, I can just flip my control for more heat on my side. We are both happy now again. HOOORAAAAY.

Two days ago I received my smart watch and got it set up mainly to record my steps in an effort to move the lard. That afternoon I recorded around 1800 steps. The following day I logged in 4177 steps, taking several short walks around the yard, wearing my gloves and carrying the pruners to do some neatening up while I walked. Yesterday, even though I only got outside for one walk, I logged 5293 steps.

My SIL whom I love – even though she leaves me in the dust – told me this morning that she is ‘still walking 4 miles daily.’ Humph! Instead of feeling like a slug or sloth, though, I’m not comparing myself to her. I’ll keep her wonderful ability and habit kind of as a beacon, but will only concentrate on improving MY total each day. Moving this lard SOME is much better than completely sedentary. My watch is now reminding me to “get off your duff!” and, “drink more water!”

Have a fun day.

Sleepy Tuesday 9-10-2024

Harvard Health

I’m struggling to wake up fully this morning. I feel tired and blurry.

Yesterday I had a productive day outside. I finished weed whacking the yard, front and back, weeded the rock bed in the back, then used the leaf blower to blow the debris off the back and front sidewalks, the front porch, and the driveway pad. My husband mowed, so we look pretty civilized – for us. :0)

Today I plan to gather the last of the tomatoes and then pull the plants for the season. My tomato sucker plant got pretty large and actually produced some blossoms, but with the lowering of temperatures, it won’t produce fruit, so it goes, as well. Good experiment. I also plan to mix up a two-gallon container of Killzall and spray the areas that need it. The weather people are saying we have today with lower temperatures and lower humidity before a warm-up, so I’ll try to take advantage of that.

In the art room, I painted the finished wood-burned piece with a coat of varnish for protection. I’ll bring it down sometime today, take pics, and see if I can get it listed on my Etsy site. I also worked on another piece, making a good bit of progress. A third is outlined.

I fell in love with these, bought them, and received them yesterday. I’ve never seen any like them before and look forward to wearing them.

I wish you a happy Tuesday.

Thoughts on a Wednesday 3-11-2020

“Dandelion Wishes” -Dick van Dujin Photography via Penny Yaffe Krakow

About 20 minutes ago the sky was really dark, even though it was about 9:30 a.m.  It looked like we were in for quite a storm. Now it’s gray and sprinkling, but it looks like the ‘storm’ blew past us. Whew!

Things are pretty much back to normal again after my glorious marathon birthday celebration, although my husband surprised me after errands yesterday by taking me to The Dari to share a seafood platter for lunch! I’m am TOTALLY spoiled at this point, have a big head – since my family and friends made me feel so special – and have become insufferable. I have a bathroom to scrub upstairs today, so that should bring me down to Earth a bit. :0)

Seriously – (and I’m going to show my advanced age now) – I have felt like the winner on the old “Queen for a Day” cheesy TV program from a hundred years or so ago where some woman was showered with wonderful things from friends, family, and the show, making her, her family, and ME cry.  I just searched and found an actual show from 1963 on YouTube

So now I’m concentrating on getting back to my normal, happy self after a tear-worthy celebration that I’m still alive, kicking, and still hard to live with.

As fears concerning the coronavirus rise, I want to share some facts from the CDC website that are helping ME keep things in perspective so far – As of today, March 11th, there are 1016 confirmed cases and 31 deaths in the United States.  The numbers will continue to rise, adding to the tension. ALSO, though, according to the CDC website, so far in 2020, there have been 34,000+ cases and 20,000+ deaths from the REGULAR STRAIN OF THE FLU.

The cautions to prevent infections for both are the same. People 60 and over, particularly those with underlying health conditions, should avoid large crowds as much as possible. We should all wash our hands and try not to touch our faces. (Not touching my face is apparently a HUGE one for me. I never realized how MUCH I scratch my face, pull on my nose, rub my eyes, etc. I saw a picture of a man wearing one of the huge plastic collars they put on animals that keep them from licking a wound, suggesting that might be a good thing to use. :0)  I may actually have to DO that – or wear mittens.

What I’m saying doesn’t ally all the fear, but hopefully it brings some perspective. Hopefully the FDA won’t throw up all the roadblocks they normally do, causing horrible delays in getting a possible vaccine to the public. Maybe there will be a waiver one can sign in order to get the possible protection. One can hope. If you are in the risk group, as my husband and I are, pay attention and be smart.

I’ll share some pics I took of the garden with you as soon as the battery on my camera charges up again. I am on the ‘sealing stage’ on a new design of wooden earrings. I’ll share some pics of those, too, if possible, later today.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Present to Myself

It’s not my birthday. It’s not a holiday when you get presents, but I got myself a present recently and I’m grinning from ear to ear.

Robyn Soules is one of the talented artists on my website, Creative Artworks.

She makes beautiful jewelry and Christmas ornament wraps from gazillions of tiny beads.

I liked this necklace –

I wrote to Robyn and said, “I love the design of this necklace, but can you make it in all white? She immediately wrote back, saying, “You bet!” She got more details, such as how long I wanted the necklace, and whether I wanted her to use all white beads or would prefer clear Swarovski crystals. I asked her to do what she thought looked best, but that I loved ‘sparkly.’

These photos just don’t do the necklace justice. I wore it out with friends Monday evening, and they were already talking about my necklace even before I took off my vest! It lies down perfectly, staying nicely spread out like this as you wear it, rather than bunching up like some other necklaces do. Robyn really listened to my love of sparklies. The crystals catch the light and reflect it beautifully.  I’m delighted with her work and feel really special when I wear it. :0)

Besides these gorgeous beaded necklaces, she makes earrings, luxurious ‘garden’ bracelets, sports bracelets, and Christmas ornament wraps.

See Robyn Soules’ work on Creative Artworks!
