I just love these drawings. It’s difficult to believe that he only uses a pencil, isn’t it?

“Handle every situation like a dog. If you can’t eat it or play with it, just pee on it and walk away.” – Unknown

“Ever consider what our dogs must think of us? I mean, here we come back from a grocery store with the most amazing haul, chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we’re the greatest hunters on earth!” – Anne Tyler

“If you’re uncomfortable around my dog, I’m happy to lock you in the other room when you come over.” – Unknown

“A boy can learn a lot from a dog — obedience, loyalty, and the importance of turning around three times before lying down. ” – Robert Benchley

Return to David Zinn

Claude had a lot on his mind until he found a spider on his head.

I’m in awe of this man’s imagination and talent. He sees the spot on the left. I see it, too, but THEN he creates the picture and ‘story’ on the right.

Nadine and the Friend in Need

He sees the weed growing at the base of the building, and Nadine finds a friend.

Patricia did not expect her dressup day to be interrupted by musical accompaniment, but here we are.

Rudy is prepared at any moment to rain on your parade.

So far Benny’s summer has been all stick and no marshmallows.

I just love his work.

The World of David Zinn

When I see a yard, I imagine what it would look like with lots of flowers blooming all around, bringing color, wonderful scents, and joy. When David Zinn sees a sidewalk or a concrete wall, he sees characters telling their stories. I love spending time in his world.

“Clarence places small pebbles in festive boxes so they can feel special for a while.”
“Daisy’s Maxim – Sleep through the showers – Wake up to flowers.”
“Fergus has a knack for growing bright blooms in forgotten places.”

“Ronan and Pete want to borrow a compass.”
“Well, at least someone is excited to see snow.”

Creativity of David Zinn

Harold has extra space available in his well of worries.
On Rainy Days Morton Sits and Thinks About all the Invisible Balls he tried to fetch.
Sheila is still adjusting to the pace of her walking companion.

David Zinn was a freelance commercial illustrator for more than twenty years until he picked out some sidewalk chalk to “work” outdoors on a beautiful day. Since then his work has appeared on streets around the United States and as far away as Taiwan, Sweden, Germany, France and Holland. He is the author of Temporary Preserves and Underfoot Menagerie and has been featured in The Guardian, Business Insider, and the Los Angeles Times, among others. Zinn lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.” ~ Google.com

I Love David Zinn’s Mind

He sees a couple of gum spots on the sidewalk.

I LOVE the way his mind works. That he has the talent to share his thoughts with us is a true gift for us. :0)
