Pinterest – Treadmill – Lazy Dog gif

This morning I changed things up and took our son’s suggestion that I just walk using no incline and NOT gripping the handle bars as I have been doing to make sure I don’t fall.

I used a speed of 3.5 ( my normal walking speed) and just touched the handle bars with my fingertips. They were there if I needed them, but I didn’t have to grab them today. I DID notice that I held myself differently when NOT gripping the handlebars. I had to concentrate a LOT more, and I FELT muscles working in my back, my butt, and the backs of my legs. I may be sore in the morning, and that will show I’m waking up this old body and building new strength. I also am retraining my brain at the same time, so this is a really good change.

The nursing home texted Brian with a video and some pics of Harvey in the wheelchair outside, getting fresh air and a bit of sunshine yesterday. He also was petting a couple of dogs we hadn’t seen before. The nurse said he didn’t want to give up the squeeze ball we brought him, so she just let me hold it as long as he wanted to. She said she thought it was a great toy for him. 😁

Today we’re going to run a couple of errands. I’m hoping we don’t drown in the rain and I’m watching the skies to rush to get my laundry in before we go if the rain starts up again. So far, so good.

I hope that you’re finding something today that makes your face crack you’re grinning so hard!

Critters

David J. Salter – @Davidjsalter on X

The critters we saw today weren’t nearly as ‘impressive’ or ‘regal’ as this beautiful tiger painting, but we enjoyed them thoroughly nonetheless.

We saw a frog that was HUGE sitting by a wall. We just stood and admired him, trying not to bother him. He was at LEAST 4 inches tall, if not more. He looked beige colored, but he was in the shadows, so it was hard to really tell.

We also saw a cat sleeping on the seat of a motorcycle in the parking garage. I spoke to him and he looked at me briefly, then stretched and got comfortable again. I’ve never seen a cat sleep on a motorcycle before. I don’t know whether it belonged to its owner or not, but the cats around the building seem to be strays that wander in and out. He was a pretty, gray striped cat.

Lastly, a rust brown dog with a collar was running down the heavily traveled street, barking occasionally, looking madly happy running after someone on a motorcycle. We have seen him before. He has a collar, so he has a home. This is apparently one of their ‘togetherness things.’ The dog negotiates the traffic really well, speaking of lots of experience. He certainly looks joyful as he runs.

We visited my husband at the nursing home again this morning to make sure he was continuing to improve from his pneumonia. He was resting comfortably and shook his head slightly when we asked him if he were hurting anywhere. He didn’t cough while we were there, but he wasn’t nearly as responsive as he was yesterday, so we just stayed a little while and then left.

I’ve been having fun painting a cats sketch I did recently. I’ll post it when it’s finished.

I’m trying to get closer to my goal of doing the 12-3-30 method of walking on the treadmill in the mornings. Today I used the first 10 minutes to go from 0-12% incline, then set the speed back to 3 kilometers per minute and walked for another 20 minutes. I’ll try to add another couple of minutes tomorrow, speeding up the incline gradations a bit. (The goal in this method is 12% incline at 3 kilometers per minute for 30 minutes.

It’s been raining off and on all day, so my laundry is on the drying rack inside. I have the fan turned to ‘medium’ and have it blowing on the clothes and towels, so I’m hoping things will dry by tonight, or at least overnight.

I hope you’re having a fun day.

I melted when Lisa sent me this photo of her husband (and our new friend, Tim) and our sweet dog, Amber. Tim and his family adopted Amber when we decided to move to Thailand. We met this wonderful family when we were starting to shed some of our stuff before an auction that will be held next month.

Tim, Lisa, and their daughter, Serena, each found things they would like – happily falling in love with Amber in the process and providing a loving home for her. Amber won the lottery, gaining a new family, complete with kids, dogs, and a cat. I think this is a classic photo of bliss. I’m so happy for all of us.

My husband and I got our first pedicures ever yesterday. (yes on Sunday!) To say we’re delighted and feel quite pampered is a vast understatement. My husband looked astounded at how good his poor, diabetic feet looked and felt.
That’s the most important thing here. He wouldn’t allow me to photograph his feet, so you’ll have to make do with mine. I feel very decadent, having such well scrubbed, lotioned feet with well cut toenails, including the ones that have been trying to become ingrown, and my mauve colored toenails. 😌 We will see how long their good work lasts, and then plan to return for another pedicure.

I wrote a good review on their website yesterday. Brian says that a lot of small shops like this one struggle to make a good living, and I was particularly impressed by the great job the lady did on my husband’s feet, since I have tried to cut his toenails and had a very hard time, both cutting the nails and not hurting him. I hope the review helps them because they really deserve it.

This is our condo building. It’s called “Hillside 2”, and has 10 floors. We are in an air bnb on the 4th floor while we wait for our condo on the 5th floor to be available for us to move in. Our friends are on the 8th floor, and our son is on the 9th floor. We are all in good communication. Our massage place is on the lobby level, and there are two halves of a 7-11 on either side of the lobby level. One has more pharmaceuticals and the other more general supplies. There is a also a place we can wait in comfort while our son calls for a Grab to take us someplace.

We stopped for a coffee this morning at the end of our walk, right next to our building, called, “Yesterday.” My husband likes the cappuccinos they make while I’m becoming addicted to iced coffee. While we were there, Brian’s friend, Effie, came over to our table visit with her seven month old daughter, who is cute as a button, in a stroller. The baby held Brian’s finger, and smiled when my husband played with her toes. She captivated everyone. Plus, we got an invitation for dinner Wednesday evening! 😊

I think I go see the ear doctor tomorrow. Hopefully, he can help me get my hearing back.

I hope that your days are joyful.

More of The Woolen Wagon

Megan – The Woolen Wagon on Etsy

I’m simply awe-struck by Megan’s ability to take some wool and fashion it into not only something that resembles a dog, but captures the whole essence and flavor of the dog – different positions, different breeds, all life-like. Simply amazing.

Privilege of Animals in Your Family

via Jennifer Ann Mitchell Carroll

We have the privilege of having 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 gold fish in our family.

Smoke

Abby

Molly

Amber

We are, of course, hoping all of our animal friends will last forever.

Molly is 15, though, and is almost totally deaf, has cataracts, and mysterious wart-like things and cysts here and there.  She has many days where she totally enjoys life, however.

An example – today I let her out of the front door. I followed her because I wanted to water the elephant ear plants on the front porch, plus cut off one leaf that needed to be removed. As I walked with the cut leaf across the yard, Molly jumped and danced, wanting to play. What a joy it was to see her bright eyes, laughing face, and sweet little body leaping back and forth and barking at me, thinking the cut-off-leaf was a toy!

We are rich in animals. I can’t imagine my life without at least ONE.

I’ll probably end up being an old lady whose house is FULL to OVERFLOWING with adopted pets…

Mr. Bountiful

behappynowbook.blogspot.com

My husband and I work in harmony each morning to get all the animals fed, breakfast fixed and eaten, dishwasher unloaded, and our basic chores done.

He usually takes the animals out first thing, stopping at our big bucket of sunflower seeds in the garage to take out to the deck for the birds. We put out both sunflower seeds and the small seeds you see in the picture above.

After he comes in and we are sitting at the dining area table for breakfast, it’s like the memo went out – “Mr. Bountiful has come!”

All of a sudden we’re awash in lots and lots of birds of all stripes bouncing from feeder to feeder, plus a squirrel or two, entertaining us as we eat.

We put a special squirrel feeder up, right on the other side of the window. It has a gallon glass bottle held up by a wooden closure. The squirrel has to come into the wooden enclosure and then stretch out to get the seed in the bottle. We get a really great look at him. There are little pointy-headed birds that also use this feeder, popping in and out with regularity.

With the birds and squirrels outside the window, our two dogs and two cats sitting on the floor around the table, and the fish happily eating in their aquarium, we feel happy and rich.
