Yo-Yo Expert

Super Fast Diet

My appetite is hale, hearty, and killing me.

I start each day determined to keep my mouth shut – and then life happens.
Choose whatever excuse and it applies to me. I have AGAIN gained some poundage and AGAIN am getting it off.

When I was young and living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, we knew a lady who owned a nice small women’s clothing store in an outdoor mall. She was very overweight. She was a really nice woman who made you feel happy you had entered her store. (She actually HIRED me to play my guitar and sing there, trying to draw customers in.) Later, I heard that she had entered the hospital and had had her mouth wired shut (REALLY – I’m not kidding) in an effort to lose weight. It worked. I don’t remember how long she was there. The next time I saw her she was slim and looked really nice in a beautiful dress, heels, etc. It wasn’t a good thing, though, because she wasn’t healthy. I don’t remember the details. I just remember the shock when I read in the paper that she had died suddenly.

That’s the first time I remember being aware of weight, as such. At that point, I had no problems. It wasn’t until I finished getting pregnant and having babies that I had trouble losing the lard. Now I’m older than dirt, have lost 30 lbs. and have become the world’s best ‘yo-yo’ expert – losing and gaining the same 3 or 4 lbs.

So, I’m a bit disgusted with myself at this point. So far today, I’ve done well. I will eat my normal lunch with my husband and then the temptation for the day begins. :0)

I have always had an extremely healthy appetite. I wish I were the type of person who ‘forgets’ to eat. Maybe in my NEXT life…

Arnica

Sent by a friend

I had a good session on the elliptical trainer in the garage yesterday and put a gold star on my calendar. Today, however, my right knee is complaining. I chose to get the elliptical trainer several years ago because it is NOT hard on your joints while allowing you to –

  • Can Aid Weight Loss. An elliptical machine or trainer is great for weight loss. …
  • Low-Impact Exercise. …
  • Targets The Lower Body. …
  • Tones The Entire Body. …
  • Boosts Cardiovascular Health. …
  • Improves Cardio Stamina. …
  • Reduces High Blood Pressure. …
  • Improves Balance And Mobility.

So, I slathered my knee with Hyland’s Muscle Therapy Gel with Arnica and just ordered more. I read that Arnica is from the sunflower family. It was recommended to me by my SIL, and it works for me on easing pain. I will take it easy today, just doing my yoga stretches.

Earlier in the week I told you I felt I had an answer for my efforts to try to lose the lard. I was tweaking what I’m eating, plus exercising, and had lost 5 lbs last week. Well, The weight gods heard me and definitely smirked at my audacity, slapping 2 pounds back on. Shoot.

Between that, and now my right knee rebellion, I’m feeling a bit down this morning. I will keep on keepin’ on mainly because I’m stubborn. :0)

Happy Thursday!

My tweaking is working! Since last week I’ve lost a bit over 5 pounds. I was pleased this morning that my scales were finally taking notice. They are still smirking at me, but my plan is to make them send up balloons at some point in the future.

Since summer’s back has finally been broken, even if we revert back to Indian Summer around here, this week I’m starting back on my elliptical trainer. It’s in the garage, so the outside temperature matters. It has been way too hot and humid for me to last more than 5 minutes, so it will be interesting to see if I can do a reasonable amount today. I plan to do it MWF, and will go from there.

Onward and downward!

I am continuing to tweak my eating habits in my determination to lose the lard. This has become a “character-building exercise” and SHOULD be listed on the list of exercises you can log each day on cronometer.com.

I had already switched my mid afternoon snack to raw veggies and a bit of dip. Now I’ll try cutting back the AMOUNT of that. I’ve been eating some no-added-sugar ice cream (a small amount while my husband has more with strawberries.) I’ll try to not have that.

Now that the weather is cooler, I’ll try to get started again on my elliptical trainer in the garage, doing a session before lunch.

Hopefully, the tweaking and moving more will get my body’s attention…

Shut Up

PictureQuotes.com

As of this morning I’m half a pound away from regaining my 30 pounds off. Once I reach that, I’ll enter new territory. :0)

I’m feeling more confident about my food choices now. Cronometer.com is helping me SEE what I’m eating more clearly, particularly as to calories, protein, carbs, and fat. I’m determined to continue eating the REAL FOOD and STU’S CLEAN COOKIN’ frozen meals for dinners as long as my husband is happy with them. When two people are involved, eating is more complicated than it is when one person can decide to “only eat blue food.”

We tend to eat the same lunch each day (except for Lunch Bunch on Fridays), so I’m tweaking that carefully. I’m being particularly mindful about snacks – mid-afternoon and any after dinner “dessert”.

I’m pleased that, though I’ve been downstairs reading at o-dark-thirty several times in the past few weeks – the worst time to NOT eat for me – I’ve managed to not eat anything. :0)

Onward and downward!!!!!

Using the cronometer.com records and tweaking what I’m eating seems to be working. I had already found that I was eating an acceptable number of calories. Since I wasn’t losing any weight (or have been gaining and losing the same lardage for awhile now) I decided to tweak WHAT I was eating.

I started this 3 days ago.

I’ve lost 3.4 lbs since then, so this seems to be a valid approach. I’m ALMOST back to the 30-pounds-off place.

Hopefully, I can get to that point and then continue on to new territory.

Losing the Lardage

LillaLiptak.com

The use of cronometer and tweaking resulting in losing a couple of pounds in the past two days, although FIRST feedback from the scales yesterday showed the opposite. This morning the scales were smirking at me a bit less – always a good way to start the day.

I listed the typical foods I eat everyday with the app to see where I was on sticking to 1200 calories or less per day – what cronometer suggested would result in less lardage. I found that although my calorie count was good, I seemed to be eating too much fat. Since my weight has been yo-yo-ing lately, I decided to try some tweaks to get my body’s attention.

This seems to be good strategy! Fingers crossed that the ‘downward’ trajectory continues!

Diet Tool

I started using cronometer.com a couple of days ago – first to get some idea of

  1. how many calories I should aim for each day to lose weight
  2. how many calories were in my normal eating day now
  3. how I was doing nutrition-wise

After I filled out the information, the website said that I should aim for 1200 calories per day in order to lose the lard. My normal eating plan now is right about there, even with snacks, so that’s good, but the nutrition part showed I was eating too much fat. I decided to tweak that, plus I decided to pare down a bit on what I’m eating.

Yesterday I left off the one slice of bread I’ve been splitting to make a ham sandwich for lunch. I pared down my mid-afternoon snack, cutting out the slice of ham and a slice of cheese and just eating a hard boiled egg.

When I weighed myself this morning, I was UP half a pound. ARRRGH!

Cosmopolitan

I’m telling myself that this could be water retention and not to worry about it. I’m going for the WEEK’S eating – not just one day. Since I’m supposedly a ‘mature’ woman, not dependent on instant gratification, I will see where I am at the end of the week with these changes.

It WOULD be encouraging to see some progress by the end of the week…

Mondays are Motivating

tenor

I used to dread Mondays. They meant back to work, loss of freedom, etc. Now I wish there were more. For some reason Mondays are motivating to me – a chance to start with a clean slate – refreshed goals, new determination.

I’m kind of frustrated right now with my efforts to lose the lard, so I am signing up with cronometer, a calorie counting website recommended by our son awhile back. I’m going to start fresh, log what I’m eating, log my exercising, etc. to give myself a fresh look. Then, based on what I’m seeing, I’ll make tweaks in what I’m doing and see if I can get back on track again and make some serious progress.

We went to bed at around our normal time – about midnight. We were both up again, downstairs reading at about 1am.

That is the worst time for me to NOT eat. I could eat a house at that hour. I found this cartoon yesterday and thought if our fridge were like this, it would help a lot. It would remind me that I’m not REALLY hungry at that hour, just needing comfort, and maybe some water, as well as my book…

My personal weight loss efforts are like a trampoline. For quite a while now I’ve been losing the same 4 lbs and then regaining them.

I’m happy that I’m down 30 lbs from my heaviest weight and that I’ve lost almost 29 inches, but I would like to go to the next level. My husband has made even more progress and is holding his own against being a Type II diabetic.

The reason for the latest gain is fried fish calling to us from the deli at the grocery store. We were in there with a careful list – and their special for Mondays is friend chicken (so we thought we were safe) but they had just finished a batch of as we walked in. The fish started calling and we answered. And so we’re up again.

It’s harder when there are two people involved. I can’t blame my problems on my husband, for sure, but it would help if we were feeling strong at the same time.

And so it goes. :0)

Good/Bad News

Fine Art America.com

The GOOD NEWS is that we went to Red Lobster for my celebratory lunch yesterday. I had a lobster tail with melted butter, rice, and broccoli. YUM! We will celebrate again if my subscribers total ever reaches 3,000.

The BAD NEWS is that I gained 2.8 pounds eating that lunch. UGH. So QUICK to pile on and so HARD to get back off!

I refuse to give up celebrating. My husband disappeared shortly before we were due to leave. He came downstairs in a yummy shirt I haven’t seen in years, clean jeans, and dress shoes. He looked wonderful. I felt we had ‘date night’ as well as the celebration of a milestone on my blog. Absolutely priceless.

On the way home, we saw a dear friend. She was standing at the bottom of her driveway waiting for the mailman to come by. She lives alone and now keeps her gate closed across her driveway, not wanting unannounced people driving up. I hadn’t seen her in awhile, so we stopped. I quickly jumped out and hugged her neck.

Yesterday was a happy day – and today I’ll start trying to shed the lardage I gained, PLUS hopefully keep the trend going downward.

Salad Night

Giphy

We go to join our friends for Lunch Bunch today. We almost always have the ‘Chicken Thingies.” (I can never remember whether they call them chicken fingers, strips, or whatever, but they are served with honey mustard and are delicious.

Since we are TRYING to lose some of our lard, we try to “eat-half-and-bring-home-half” to make chef salad for our dinner on Fridays.

Yesterday I got home from my massage to find my husband waiting for me so we could go out again for another errand. On the way home, he stopped at our local grocery wanting to get lunch from the deli there. We got fish dinners, enjoying every bite, but paying the price for it on the scales this morning. The pound I had gotten off yesterday had reappeared today. :0( Today will be another chance to remove it.

It’s a good thing we both enjoy salad.

That Feeling

noguiltlife.com

It wasn’t actually a ‘cheat meal.”

It’s difficult to stick to a diet when there is another person involved. I KNOW. I should be strong enough to make my own decisions and not eat even though my husband is, but it is what it is.

Saturday we were good. We didn’t do snacks and we both enjoyed less of a smirk from the scales. Sunday I was all set to continue that, but my husband asked me mid-afternoon if I would fix him a bagel with cream cheese. I did that, and, of COURSE I also had a snack….

Sometimes we enjoy no-sugar-added ice cream before bed. I was being strong, and then my husband was beside me with a chocolate ice cream bar…

AND – to top it all off – I was downstairs reading at 2:30 this morning, not able to sleep, and had a snack….

So the sweet animal in the picture above and I are both feeling stuffed and guilty this morning.

I am determined to make TODAY a good day, though, eating right and doing my exercises, drinking lots of water, etc. I will ask my husband to help me be strong – NOT bringing me things I shouldn’t be eating, and I will try to be sleepy enough to sleep through the night so I won’t be tempted by the fridge calling to me… :0)

Let Them Eat Cake

Giphy

One of our dear friends from Lunch Bunch decided to be really, really nice and bake my husband a cake. It wasn’t his birthday or any occasion. She baked him what she calls a ‘Mt. Dew’ cake. She has done this before, several years ago. It was absolutely delicious, but he’s a Type II diabetic (although he denies that and says he has a sugar problem). She couldn’t figure out how to get the cake to turn out right without sugar, so that was that.

This big beautiful cake was sitting at my husband’s place at the big table at Lunch Bunch Friday. My husband being thoroughly himself took out his pocket knife and immediately cut himself a piece, ate it, and pronounced it, “delicious.'” He didn’t share, also being consistent, cutting off a second piece and eating it. Our friend explained that she had finally figured out how to make it sugar-free, maintaining the consistency. There was a cup of real Mt. Dew, which does have sugar, but a cup in a big sheet type cake isn’t much.

My husband was telling me on the way home that we would have to throw out the rest of the cake, since he isn’t supposed to have sugar. I again explained that the cake was sugar-free, with only one cup of Mt. Dew in the whole thing. He got it that time and we have enjoyed a piece of cake each evening since. And it IS delicious.

It is NOT calorie-free, however, and my indulgence has my scales not only smirking, but laughing at me with its hand over it’s mouth. We finished it last night, thank goodness, so today I will be a good girl. I’m drinking a glass of water as I type this. :0)

Diet Stagnation

twitter.com

My scales are laughing and me and smirking. I’m not getting on them every day, since I’m juggling two pounds back and forth over and over. I’m continuing to concentrate on one day at a time, watching what I’m eating and doing my exercises of weights and yoga MWF, and elliptical trainer and yoga T-Th-S.

I’m going back this morning to MyFitnessPal.com I had figured since we are eating mainly good, real food with portion control from Real Food and Stu’s Clean Cookin’, I didn’t have to do that, but I’m going to start it again to find out for sure how many calories I’m eating.

Dieting with my husband complicates things. He is very happy with what we’re doing now, and that’s very important to me. If I were by myself, though, I would be doing keto.

The MyFitness Pal will give me a better idea of what I’m consuming versus my exercising, so hopefully that will help.

Keepin’ on “Keepin’ On”

Ranker

I’m keepin’ on keepin’ on regarding my efforts to lose the lard. My old body is stubborn, but I’m eating right, exercising, either going by my routine or working outside in the garden. I’m trying to drink all the water. My efforts vary, but yesterday was a 4-bottle day. Nothing exciting to report, but efforts continue.

This is my square foot garden. I finished the weeding of the six 4’x4′ foxes. The next step is to spray the soil alternative with EIGHT to kill the bugs and KILLzAll to take care of any weed roots I missed. Finally, I’ll cover the boxes with tarps to stay until the next planting time. The heat index today and tomorrow are supposed to be around 110 F., so I’ll do what I can in the mornings and then wait until the next day.

The onions are drying now. The sun, wind, and any rain will work together so I can put them in mesh bags and hang them on hooks in the pantry soon. I’ll check when we get back from doing errands to see if we have any ripe tomatoes to gather.

Not sure what the rest of the day will hold. As usual, I would appreciate a quiet day.

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

It’s Going to Have to Be Good Enough

Giphy

Due to nothing that I can figure out, I GAINED 6/10ths of a pound yesterday. :0(

I ate as usual, drank three bottles of water, did 20 minutes on my elliptical trainer, and did my yoga practice.

Today we go to Lunch Bunch. As usual, I’ll eat HALF and bring the other half of my chicken strips home and use them in our chef salad dinner tonight. Exercise today is three short session with my weights and yoga.

I am being a “good girl” and that will have to be good enough.

Lard Progress Report – 7-31-2021

buzzfeed.com

Short answer: I lost an inch off my hips and a half inch off my thighs since the last time I measured, a bit over a month ago.

Total loss to date since my heaviest: 30 pounds and 28.7 inches.

Ongoing focus:

  • IF I eat in-between meals, have plenty of ‘approved’ snacks READY
  • Concentrate on my exercising, since it seems to be yielding results
  • Monitor scales, but don’t look to them for applause

General: We are eating carefully at lunch, and then eating a frozen meal from either Real Food or Stu’s Clean Cookin’ in Greenwood. We are happy with the variety, and we’re eating controlled portions.

I’m trying to do a session of yoga stretching daily, plus work with weights M-W-F, plus a session on the elliptical T-Th-S – unless I’ve been outside doing yard work. Then all bets are off.

A Bit More Progress

tenor

One of my long-time friends came over yesterday for us to fax a document for her. When we finished, I walked her out to her car.

She said, “You’re looking good. What are you doing?”

I grinned from ear to ear because it felt GOOD to hear that. I KNEW I don’t look, “Good,” but comparatively speaking, maybe better. I told her about concentrating on my exercising rather than the scale.

She wouldn’t have told me I looked bad, but she didn’t have to say anything at ALL.

Now I feel more motivation to keep on keepin’ on!

Half of me was thinking, “I’m really trying to keep my mouth shut and lose the lard.” The other half thought, “Life is short, and your husband wants to go out with you and do something fun.”

Guess which won.

Change of Focus?

giphy.

I’ve been gritching to my sister-in-law about the scales not being impressed with my efforts to lose my lard.

She made what I think might be a good suggestion – she said maybe a change of focus, to measuring tape, rather than scales, would help keep me on track.

I had already planned to measure at the end of the month, so I’ll focus on that as I do my daily yoga practice and my three days a week exercises with weights. I’ll continue with my present eating, watching my portions and continuing with my 3 bottles of water a day and see what happens.

Anything

SuperFastDiet

I’m being a very good girl. I’m eating my raw veggies with a bit of dressing as my mid afternoon snack after taking my husband a bagel loaded with French Onion cream cheese and Chives.

I did my two sessions of exercises with weights yesterday and yoga, and will do my longer session of just yoga today. As I type, I’m drinking my second bottle of water. Since my eyeballs are floating with all the water, maybe I am just retaining water, though I’m definitely moving more, running to the bathroom particularly after the second bottle…

I’m much more motivated when the scales are looking impressed, but that hasn’t happened in several days. I’m determined to build good habits here, though, so I keep on keepin’ on.
