It’s Friday 12-20-2024

It’s cold here (34 degrees F.) but sunshine-y this morning. We will go get groceries some time today and get our mail, but that’s it for errands. I’m hoping for a quiet day. Lots on my to-do list.

____________

Yesterday my husband had an eye appointment – an annual checkup due to his Type II diabetes (he denies this and describes it only as a ‘sugar problem.’) We had to wait a few minutes to see the doc and my husband was like a cranky 3-year-old. He was threatening to leave in the middle of the appointment. I was embarrassed. We got through it, but I apologized to the doc and the receptionist. It makes me dread future appointments for him. End of rant.

I did a good job with my new ‘chair-abdomen’ exercises yesterday. SO good that I’m sore today. I think the combo of the exercises with weights, the chair abdomen exercises, and my yoga stretches is a good way to keep this old body moving. It’s like the quote from Helen Hayes is flashing, neon-like in my head, “If you rest, you rust.”

We’re going to have breakfast for dinner tonight – one of my favorite things. It’s a comfort food type dinner. My husband is determined to learn to cook fried eggs. They are quite interesting-looking (he has real trouble turning them over) but taste wonderful. :0)

___________

Enjoy your Friday, and I hope your weekend is a good one.

Please remember to stand back and enjoy all the preparations for your holiday. No rush. No worries. It will be wonderful.

Christmas “Pre-Eve” 12-23-2022

Grandin Road

It was -4 with a wind chill of -26 here when I woke up, according to thermometers and my computer. I’m sending a note of diplomatic protest to Mother Nature, as this is totally ‘uncivilized’ for Arkansas. Thankfully, no pipes burst overnight. Our garage door is frozen shut, however. I discovered that when I tried to let the dog out. I made sure it wasn’t still trying to open – burning out the motor – shut off the light and let the dog out the people door at the front of the house instead. We kept our cat in overnight, thinking that she would probably wake us up in the middle of the night meowing to get out. She didn’t! It is now a balmy 3 degrees F. with a wind chill of -14. It’s supposed to finally get above freezing Monday afternoon. I’m trying not to even think about our water bill, since we’re having to drip water in two sinks in order to try to keep our pipes from freezing. I hope that you are safe, dry, and well this bitterly cold morning on this ‘night-before’ the ‘night-before-Christmas.’

We’ll have a comfort food dinner of chicken, onions and mushrooms in cream of chicken and mushroom soup over rice tonight.

Have a snuggly day.

Kidadi

Today will still be cold It’s 25 now) but help is on the way starting tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to being able to do a bit in the yard again in the afternoons before winter is upon us.

Doga

I did a lot better with yoga practice yesterday (DAY 128). I’m not sure what is happening, but it seemed that my body is finally able to stretch more in many of the poses. I won’t win any prizes, but comparably speaking, I’m making some sort of break-through – either in stretching farther or being able to hold the pose longer. My plank pose holding is now up to a quick count of 35 – much better than the quick count of 10 with which I started.

BBC Science Focus Magazine

I was a slug yesterday, so my to-do list is the same, and even longer today. I’ll try to do better, though I should win an award for procrastination. I SO enjoyed reading, napping under my throw, and even cooking our dinner yesterday, instead. First priority today is going through each of our medicines list to make sure they are up to date for our doctor tomorrow.

I wish you a happy, healthy Sunday.

Cold

Daily Mirror

I had just a suggestion of a sore throat while I was in Thibodaux. It became a full-fledged one the night I arrived home. I immediately sucked on Cloroseptic (sp?) lozenges and took Sudafed for the huge, stuffed head feeling and runny nose, cough, etc. I played ‘poor me’ for a day, and basically concentrated on sleeping through the cold. It helped.

Now I’m almost back to normal, but – being a sweet, giving person – I gave it to my husband inadvertently. So now HE’s sitting with kleenex stuffed into his nostrils, having taken Sudafed. He’s almost over the sore throat. We hope we haven’t passed this on to anyone else. We canceled bowling tonight so that we don’t pass it on to our friends.

Cocoon time for us until we’re fit company again.
