I won’t look this cute, but I plan to use this wonderfully cooler day today to get some things done in the yard. It’s 49 degrees F. right now, so I’m actually waiting a bit until it WARMS UP (imagine that!) before I go out. :0)
I’ll probably do several sessions, with some resting in-between, and see how much I can accomplish.
I’m having trouble realizing we’re into NOVEMBER now! I’m still delighting in having a few days of fall. We got a reminder on the computer yesterday that we need to change to our snow tires! Arrrrgh! I’m not ready!
YARD WORK
I made some progress on cleaning out the trio of brick planters yesterday. I did a LOT of snipping and hacking on the overgrown stuff in the planters that divide the front yard from the top of our driveway area. My back and legs are telling me today that THEY noticed, but my yoga kept me from being TOO sore to start some serious weeding today after finishing the hacking portion of the project. I’m thinking that when I get to the point things are under control, I may plant some of the iris in here that I took out of the iris planter.

EXERCISE
DAY 110 on my efforts to practice yoga daily. The newest thing in my practice is trying to do a PLANK.

So far, I’m pathetic. I held the pose for 15 seconds yesterday, and was shaking from head to toe. My husband was encouraging, though. (I didn’t realize he was monitoring my efforts. He SEEMED to be reading on his E-reader.) But when I let down, he said, “You were doing the full pose, not the one where your knees are on the ground.” So, that, and the fact I’ve made it to ’15 seconds’, rather than the ’10’ I started with, made me feel better.
NOTE: In the cute yoga picture with the woman and her dog above, she’s doing the ‘Downward Dog’ pose (appropriately enough :0) ) I’m doing that one now, too, except that – if you look carefully at the photo, HER feet are flat on the mat. Since I’m older than dirt and stiff, I’m WORKING to lower my heels to the floor. I’m still about two inches from that, I think. One of these days….
Feast of Starlight
My husband is enjoying telling me what he’s hungry for lately and is very happy that I do my best to provide it. Last night it was eggs, bacon, and toast. A comfort meal, for sure. :0)
Today started out pretty cold – 33 degrees. I finally went out to the garage to do 35 minutes on my elliptical trainer when the temperature reached 50. Now it’s 58 and practically balmy! The freeze killed all the flowers in the planters around the yard, so the next several days I’ll be trying to clear out my planters in preparation for topping them out with mulch for the winter.
My husband loves pulled pork. I found a recipe he really likes, so I put a pork loin in the crock pot this morning. When it is cooked, he helps me shred it, each of us using two forks, until it’s the right consistency. We’ll have that tonight for dinner and divide up the rest if it into meal portions for him and freeze them. Usually we get about 8 meals from one pork loin.
An online friend just made my day. He is serving in Afghanistan and we have been chatting. He told me today that he used the photo of my “Believe” plaque as wallpaper for his computer!
The rest of my day will be spent –
cleaning out ONE planter outside
doing my daily yoga stretches session
working on the flat wooden Christmas ornaments in my art room
I hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday, too.
*If you are in one of the states that practices Daylight Savings Time, tonight before you go to bed, turn your clocks BACK one hour!
I just finished spreading two of the four large leaf bags of mulch I made recently. I wore Targa 2 “Racing” Goggles we had on hand while I did it, not wanting a repeat of the eye scratches I got when I made the mulch a little over a week ago.
The next step is cleaning out more brick flower planters. THEN I can probably distribute the rest of the mulch.
Exciting, huh.
Actually, I DO find it exciting that I can make my own mulch, cleaning up many of the leaves in the yard as I do, and not have to pay for bag after small bag of mulch I used to buy at the local hardware store each fall. As I remember, it was about $3.00 or so per bag, and I used about 20 of them one year. So I’m saving money, cleaning up, recycling, and mulching my plants for the winter!
And, between the weeding and cleaning out of my square foot garden, plus distributing the two 39 gallon trash bags of mulch, I’ve gotten a good amount of exercise and fresh air today.
If the weather is cooperative tomorrow, I’ll try to get more planters cleaned out, working my way around the yard.
