@Matt_Pinner On X

Good morning! It’s sunny outside and 34 degrees F. right now. It was 80 yesterday afternoon. This afternoon’s high is forecast to be 51. What a difference a night makes. We avoided the severe weather threat, and for that I’m very thankful. The wind blew and ‘gusted,’ but that was it. HOORAAAAAY!

Our bug spray guy came just as we were getting things together for lunch. He sprayed inside and out, for everything including elephants, so we should be in good shape now. I really don’t like to have scary things crawling around or flying around inside the house, if possible.

Even though MyFitnessPal said “You are not likely eating enough” and I was careful, apparently I also ate lead or something that made me retain water. I was up almost a pound this morning. I realize that weight can fluctuate for many reasons and that I shouldn’t be upset – and probably shouldn’t be weighing myself every day – but this is working for me and keeping me on track and motivated. I just gnashed my teeth, stuck my tongue out at the scales as it laughed at me, and will do my best to stay on track today.

I HAVE to train myself to read labels at the grocery store before buying anything. That will drive my husband nuts – but I’ll just tell him it’s necessary, and that he can stay home if he wants to. I pulled out a frozen dinner to eat this evening, since I’ve been cooking a lot lately. It’s ‘high protein’ and I assumed low carb since it’s Lean Cuisine. NOOOOOO! It’s 38 carbs! I’m trying to stick to around 20 carbs per day, so this one meal is almost two days’ worth! ARRRRRRGH! Needless to say, I won’t be eating that tonight.

I will drive down to the bottom of our driveway soon to get our mail and check to see if our trash can is empty. I checked it at 4pm yesterday and it was still full. I’ll call the company either way. When we started with them, the paperwork said they might have someone picking it up at 4am the pickup day, so to have the trash out there and ready. We started putting it out mid day Monday for Tuesday pickup. The last few weeks, we’ve tried to stop, either going or coming back from errands, to put the can away, but it’s still full. I’ll see if I can find out what’s going on, or maybe they just missed us this week. Such a TERRIBLE problem, right? :0)

I’ll be earning my third sparkly star for the week today for yoga practice. I’m TRYING to make this a habit, but learned last year that I defy the odds on making something become a habit. The sparkly star on the calendar right now is enough to keep me going. Maybe I’ll become more of an adult later…

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

It’s official. I FINALLY got to the 20 pounds down mark in my efforts to lose the lard. Apparently, my latest efforts – cutting the carbs WAAAAAY down – is getting my body’s attention. The MyFitnessPal website is really helpful in planning my eating for the day. I can list what I plan to eat and then see if I’m eating too many carbs and change out something until the numbers are better.

I will also earn my second sparkly star for my desk calendar today with my yoga practice. Yesterday I did 13 reps of the abdominal exercise, and 6 of the leg-out-behind-me exercise on each side. Improvement!

Our ‘excitement’ for the day is the bug spray guy is coming. I have no idea when. I’ve seen ladybugs and a spider lately, so I’m happy he’s coming. I have nothing in particular against ladybugs. I don’t like spiders much. The thing is, when you live in a rural area, scary bugs aren’t far behind when you begin to see other things, so LET THE SPRAYING BEGIN!

The forecast is for really gusty winds today (up to 45mph), super warm temperatures (82 degrees F. in February), followed by thunderstorms, a cold front, and possible severe weather this evening and overnight, followed by a 35 degree drop in temperatures for tomorrow. Think roller coaster! WHEEE!

My big chore is to hope the trash people empty the can at the bottom of the driveway so I can drag it back up where it ‘lives’ before the thunderstorms this evening. Fingers crossed.

We voted in the Arkansas primary yesterday. I LOVE early voting. We drove to town, thinking the voting would be at City Hall or the court house. Nope! We asked a policeman at the court house and he told us the voting was at the fairgrounds. We drove there and voted in about 5 minutes. I thanked the volunteers there profusely. I think early voting is so civilized. It really helps to be able to go when the weather is cooperative and at a good time for YOU.

Not sure yet what the plan is for today. Some of it will depend on when the bug spraying guy comes. I’ll just hang loose and see what happens.

I hope your day is a pleasant one.

Short Time Outside Today

Roses gathered this morning

A cold front is due to come through around lunch time, bringing thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lots of rain with longer temperatures. I went out this morning to gather some roses before the plants get clobbered by the storms.

I talked to the wonderful men who are running fiber optic lines in the area yesterday as they road a cute little car in the back and side yards. We discussed the tree they cut branches from that were encroaching on their lines. I asked them if it were possible for them to ‘neaten up’ the tree – that we were too old to do it ourselves and it would be really expensive to hire someone. They said they would be here today and would see what they could do.

This is a group of three evergreen trees that have been there a long time – long enough to essentially grow together. Right now with big branches hanging down, it looks like they were hit by lightning or something and exploded. I told them that I would appreciate whatever they could do, whether it’s cutting more branches or chainsawing the whole thing down.

They are wonderful men. I’ll be grateful whatever they do.

Our bug spraying man will be here around 11:00 to protect us from critters large and small. I have only seen dead bugs – the best kind, as far as I’m concerned, plus a few wasps that have figured out how to get in the house. I always feel good when the quarterly treatment has been done. Since we live in ‘the country’ in our own ‘woods,’ we get a lot of critters I hadn’t ever seen before, including a rare snake, centipedes, tarantulas, and scorpions, as well as the usual stuff. I’m really serious about spraying for EVERYTHING – including elephants, around here. I will deal with stuff outside – but there is a no tolerance policy about INSIDE.

My sister-in-law and my massage therapist are both having surgery today, so they are both in my thoughts and prayers today – for smooth procedures and complete recoveries as soon as possible.

I hope you’re having a good day.

Ahhhhh!

American Kennel Club

I’m leaving shortly to have a massage. Ahhhhh!

My wonderful massage therapist will be having surgery very soon, though, and the recovery time is pretty long, so this massage will need to last me until February or so. My wish is that the surgery goes smoothly and that she heals thoroughly, feeling good again.

I was going to call to arrange to have our fall checkup on our geothermal system, plus our quarterly bug spraying, but both companies called ME to schedule! We had the geothermal check yesterday and are good to go now through the winter into the spring. Not only is our guy super competent about how our system works, but he crawls up into the attic to change out one of the filters for us – saving my husband and me the chore – AND our dog, Amber, is in love with him. She wags her tail so hard the whole time he is here that she sleeps soundly after he leaves. He always stops to talk to her and give her a lot of love before he leaves.

Our fish are swimming around in a sparkling clean tank again. They thanked me in their way, for the nice digs.

Our weather has warmed up again, so we’re able to open doors in the afternoon, airing out the house. :0) I’m hoping to be able to do some work outside this afternoon.

I hope that you are having a great day, too!

A Challenging Day

Jeff Jett via LinkedIn

When we got up this morning, I thought it would be a quiet day.

It’s cold, gray, and rainy today, so I have to fight wanting to curl up under my throw in my recliner and nap the day away.

We had our quarterly bug spray at noon. If you’re looking for a dependable, wonderful group of people to handle all your bug spraying needs, try Tri-Hill Pest Control in Fort Smith, AR.  Their phone number is (479) 782-2847. They come treat our home quarterly. At one point, we had lots of scorpions. YES! It was really awful. They got them under control for us. Now supposedly spiders are overrunning everyone, but we haven’t seen even one – and NO scorpions. Since it’s rainy. our wonderful sprayer said he would schedule a return visit in a day or two to treat the outside.

Before he arrived, I got a call from our water department. We had gotten several bills lately that were higher than usual. We thought it was probably leftover charges from when our son was home (our bill usually doubles) – and then we had a leak in our well house that our plumber came and fixed, so we thought it might be leftover from that. I just paid the last bill, so I was surprised when the lady at the water department called me, saying from our usage, we must have a leak somewhere. She said the company had been trying to find the source and that something ‘pinged’ when they passed our house. She suggested that we contact a plumber.

I called Travis Hawkins, our long-time wonderful plumber. (479) 461-8347.  I actually got to speak with him directly, rather than having to leave a message. He is so good that he stays quite busy. He told me that as soon as the rain stopped, he would be over and try to find the source of the leak. I just noticed the rain had stopped – at least for awhile – and Travis was driving up the driveway. Have I told you that I think he is worth his weight in gold?

My husband showed him a place in the front yard where we had standing water. The whole yard is wet, but this was almost like a shallow lake in comparison. We now have a big hole in our front yard. Travis actually found the source of the leak – a big PVC pipe that runs across our front yard. There was a humongous rock or boulder between the soil and the pipe. He has gone to the hardware store to get the supplies he needs to fix where we can SEE the pipe just caved in on itself. (Apparently, this is another perk from living in one place for over 30 years. – they use different, stronger stuff now.)

The lady at the water department said that when the leak is fixed. we should bring the repair receipt in to her office and she will adjust our bill. I’m not sure what that actually MEANS, but we will be grateful for whatever help she can give us.

Otherwise, I hard-boiled some eggs and made a keto sausage/eggs/cheese back for our dinner tonight. I also did a Windows 10 update on my computer, then FINALLY figured out how to do a backup of the operating system with the recent changes, then backed up my data.

It’s not even mid-afternoon yet and I’m exhausted.

I’m glad we don’t usually have days like this.

Thoughts on a Wednesday 10-30-2019

Stefka K Foerster – LinkedIn

It’s cold (46 degrees F.) and rainy here today.  We did not get the freeze, but the low is forecast to be 29 tomorrow. BRRR! My husband drove down to get the mail, but we decided today was a GREAT day to stay inside.

Since my husband has asked a couple more times about when we’ll have the Keto Chili again, (Suzanne Ryan, Simply Keto), I got the ingredients into the crock pot first thing this morning. Our son texted from Thailand, asking if I could give HIM the recipe. I took a pic of the page and sent it to him. :0)

Our wonderful bug man, Adolpho from Tri-Hill Pest Control of Fort Smith, came for our last spraying of the year this morning. Since it’s cold and rainy outside, he said he will come back next week to do the outside. I’ve told you before that we think this is a great company and our dogs vie for Adolpho’s attention.

I have decided that I need to be SURE to live at LEAST as long as my husband. He had to have an implant at the dentist’s office several months back. The new protocol is that they do the implant, wait several months and THEN do the x-rays and prep for the new tooth, and THEN insert the actual tooth at a third appointment. I’ve told you my husband had a stroke in July. He is now on blood thinners. He was going to agree to an appointment without telling the dentist’s office about his situation OR checking with our primary doctor. I have now contacted our primary, called the dentist’s office back to explain my husband’s situation so that NOW they will be prepared to handle any problems that might occur.  (I have told my husband that his wife is a pearl beyond price…)

This afternoon I plan to do more experimenting with Unicorn Spit in my art room. I’ve told you that this wonderful STUFF can be used on paper, wood, glass, ceramics, fabric and more. I’ve done the wooden plaques now. Next I’m going to see what happens with tote bags, glass Christmas ornaments, and flat wooden Christmas ornaments, and paper. Can you see me smiling even THINKING about my afternoon?

I’m delighted that my elliptical trainer time and yoga stretching time seem to be resulting in MUCH less pain, stiff joints, etc. This means a LOT at my age – 72 – so I’m really happy about this discovery.  I’m hoping that by the end of the year – or before – I can add something else to the daily exercise mix.

I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday.
