February 2022

Aaron of the Australian Firefighters helps us welcome February. Almost makes me wish for a very small grass fire (controlled) nearby so he would come and check it out. www.australianfirefighterscalendar.com
Thanks to my friend, Susy, we can enjoy Matt Dixon’s calendar decoration (The Artist) for February 2022. I would give my heart to this sweet robot any time. mattdixon.co.uk/

I just checked on my raised bed square foot garden planters. The tarps covering the six boxes, plus the bungie cords I used to secure them, are really brittle now. As soon as we get through this winter storm, we’ll go get replacement tarps and more cords to protect the planters as much as we can for the rest of the winter.

The forecast now is more ice than snow. We had a bad ice storm in 2000 (we think) that brought so much damage to the state it still hasn’t recovered. We stood on the porch and heard the branches cracking like gunshots as they broke off and fell. We were stuck up her with a China Diesel generator that overheated in the well house and blew the gasket on top. My husband and our son started shifts to make sure that a barrel we kept filling with water and snow kept the generator going, and we switched to well water. We were without public power and public water for 14 days, if I remember right. When we made it through that, we looked for a replacement for the generator and got really serious about keeping extra water and food on hand.

Our son now lives where there are two seasons: “extreme summer” and “wet summer”. He thinks it’s frigid if he has to wear shoes, jeans, and a hoodie. :0) My husband and I are on our own in this storm. The generator did its automatic test without incident last Thursday. Hopefully, it will do its job if we need it. It runs everything except heat or cool, and we have a fireplace backup and electric blankets. I got food after my haircut today, so we’re pretty much set.

Stay safe, warm, and dry!

Happy 2022!

Thanks to Susy, we can all enjoy Matt Dixon’s January image.

And, enjoying the beginning of January 2022 from a different standpoint –

I thank the Australia Firefighters for creating this calendar and making it affordable, reminding me that “I ain’t dead yet.”

On this, the 1st day of January, 2022, we caught a BIG raccoon in the humane trap we set on our deck, trying to catch whoever was eating all of our birdseed the last week or so. Last night we caught him, and will give him another chance at life later today, ‘relocating’ him about 5 miles from us, in a creek beside the road. Hopefully, he will enjoy the rest of his life, forgetting where we are.

Our weather is awful. The day started at 61 degrees with pretty heavy rain. It is still raining, and the temperatures are falling as a cold front barrels in. The low is supposed to be 19 tomorrow morning. We have rain now, the possibility of severe storms this afternoon and evening, and the chance of snow flurries tonight into tomorrow. Happy New Year….

I’m going to get a beef stew in the crock pot tomorrow to ‘comfort’ us about the change in the weather.

Help for my friend, Kay, seems to be on the way. They are now working to expedite the okay on insurance coverage and she should get some definitive surgical help in the coming days. Fingers crossed.

I hope that 2022 is a wonderful hear for you!

Thoughts on a Wednesday 12-1-2021

Lloyd, Baxter, Bubba and I wish you a happy first day of December 2021. If you would like to buy a calendar to support the firefighters’ fundraising efforts, go to wwww.australianfirefighterscalendar.com
Gardiner Family Chiropractic

I’m feeling very relieved this morning. The results of my carotid artery doppler ultrasound show plaque, but not to a worrisome percentage. No procedures necessary. I found an article on ‘artery cleansing foods’ and will try to include more of them in my diet. Many of the recommended foods we already eat, but I will try to drink a cup of green tea daily and purposefully include the recommendations at least several each week.

Just to give an example that shows even though you may be older than dirt, you never outgrow some childish reactions – I was downstairs in the middle of the night, reading for another hour or so, unable to sleep. When I went back up, I slept, but had my old, reliable nightmare I’ve had since I was a child when I’m feeling scared, insecure, dreading something, etc. (I’m desperately trying to get ‘somewhere.’ I’m either alone or with someone who is depending on me. I’m late, I’m lost, and I need to pee. The whole nightmare is me dashing from place to place in this state.) I never get where I’m going and wake exhausted. Since the results of the ultrasound were good, I’m hopeful that I’ll sleep well tonight, plus maybe get a nap this afternoon. :0)

We’re having gorgeous weather for the first day of December here in Arkansas. The weather people are predicting 71 degrees F. this afternoon! Woo HOOO! I’ll plan to get outside and smile.

I hope that December finds you healthy and happy.

A Smile to Start April 2020

Aaron and Lenny help us enjoy April. No fooling.

I found the Austrailian Firefighters fundraising calendar online several months ago. I loved the idea of great looking firefighters with cute dogs to celebrate each month while bringing needed funds to the firefighters. This was before they had all the awful bush fires there.

I’m happy to share the gorgeous guys with you each month. I hope that you will consider buying a calendar each year, or maybe one for yourself and others as gifts for the new year, to aid their fundraising efforts and bring yourself a mile each month.  AustralianFireFightersCalendar.

May the end of April bring us through anxiety and into better times.

Happy March 2020!

I have to tell you that, since I bought a calendar that is supposed to help support the firefighters in Australia, my year has been considerably brighter. Of course, I made the donation out of the goodness of my heart – NOT because there are gorgeous guys with puppies looking out at me each month…. :0)

2020 is shaping up to be a beautiful year. Let’s review –

This is Nathan and George – They were on the cover of the calendar.  I keep trying to read the words across his gorgeous chest – Nathan’s, not George’s…..

January was Ben and Nullah.

February has been Tuva and Milo.

And today we start March 2020 with Lloyd and Ollie.

My husband has remarked a couple of times about these men. I continue to point out that buying the calendar helped the firefighters. He KNOWS I love dogs, and the gorgeous guys are just an extra…..

Happy March!

2020 Australian Firefighters Calendar

I ordered an Australian Firefighters Calendar for 2020 in a win/win celebration of the new year. It was a way to support the firefighters – although I had no idea that Mother Nature would deal such a terrible blow to the country. Apparently they create a calendar each year showing truly magnificent looking men and cute animals so that they can raise needed funds and so that people like me can enjoy welcoming each new month. :0)

To review our handsome year so far –

This is the cover of the calendar, with Nathan and George.  This alone would be worth the price of the calendar, as far as I’m concerned, but there is more!

All through January I have been enjoying looking at Ben and Nullah.  (I now have to admit that I missed the tip for handling burns here….)

And today we celebrate the month of February with Tuva and Milo.  (there is the URL for the place to go to order a calendar for yourself for this – and/or NEXT year….

The older I get, the more quickly time passes. We barely start a new year and the months start flying past me, making my hair blow.

Thankfully, I’m not dead yet, and these gorgeous men give me another wonderful reason to enjoy each day.

Happy February, everyone!

Happy New Year 2020

We had a quiet evening last night. We ate some keto chili, and I celebrated by eating some no-sugar-added ice cream to end the old year happily.  Being old folks, we went to sleep right before midnight, so we don’t know if our backyard neighbors down in the valley shot off fireworks or not.

I found a wonderful way to celebrate each month of 2020.  Out of the goodness of my heart :0)  I bought an Australian Firefighters calendar. This is a fundraiser for them, and being SUCH a good person, I wanted to help. I’m going to share the photo each month, so that YOU can benefit from my donation, too.

And here we welcome January with Ben and Nullah. I hope you share my enthusiasm for the new month. You’re welcome! :0)

This is my newest group of note cards created with Unicorn Spit Stain/Glaze and grey webbing spray. I’m calling it, “Branching Out.”

I hope this is a wonderful day for you – the first day of what will be a great year for you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
