My New Mantra

Positive Energy via Michael Remillard

I’m older than dirt and I have yet to even come CLOSE to doing this.

I have always admired people who calmly decide what is necessary in any given situation and do it.

I am TRYING to repeat this every day in an effort to FINALLY be able to remain calm and function like a normal human being with more than one brain cell before I croak.

Example – Years ago, my husband and I lived in Tulsa, enjoying our very first house. Our property had a garage apartment that we rented out, happy for the extra income.  I came home from my job as a teacher one day to find smoke coming from the garage apartment. Like a complete ditz, I called my mother before calling the fire department!

My mom was stopped by a policeman on her way to our house. The cop said, “Where’s the fire, Lady?”  My mom, answered, “At my daughter’s house!”  He waved her on without giving her a ticket.

The two renters had renter’s insurance, our insurance enabled us to rebuild the garage apartment, and I was able to handle all the details of that without problem.

If you have a similar problem, feel free to print the image in this as your reminder (as I have) and say with me, “One of the best lessons you can learn in life is to master how to remain calm.”

Freeing

Everett Ruess via Lisa Bearnes Richey

My personal situation has forced me to live one day at at a time – sometimes one HOUR at a time. With this change in focus, I’m actually finding some good coming from it. Though things are tense here many times, being forced to ‘stay-in-the-moment’ is freeing.

Instead of worrying about my ‘to do’ list, all the other stuff I might – or even SHOULD be doing – slips WAAAAY down in priority. As I’m learning to focus on the most important, wringing out every moment of joy possible, my mind is less burdened. If I do anything else during the day, that’s good, but it is no longer NECESSARY.

I am being given the chance to keep my head on straight. I have people who are very, very important to me. I have animals who continue to give me unconditional love. Enjoying whatever time I have with them is paramount.

Making every day count – “while I am alive, I intend to live.”

Trusting Technology?

email from Marsha Koenig

Our GPS can’t find our house – it directs you to drive into Lake Greenwood – or the Greenwood Post Office.

My Facebook account was hacked. I tried to find someone to help me, but apparently there is no actual person actually working at Facebook. If you can’t sign in, they decide you are a terrorist. I have given up.

My LinkedIn account was also hacked, just a couple of days ago. Same problem. I have given up on LinkedIn, too.

It seems that forecasts and models are just ‘best guesses.’ Mostly, at the moment I’m happy they are proving to be wrong.

I will just take one day at a time, hoping my PHONE isn’t possessed, or hacked, or whatever.

Diet

PictureQuotes.com

Excuses abound. I’m setting the excuse bar at a higher and higher level. (Everyone has to strive for something! )

The pandemic. Staying home. Cold, rainy weather. Husband asking for comfort food.

Then the real reasons – my laziness, my lack of motivation, my weakness.

All combine to add lardage when what I INTEND to do is to continue my efforts to lose the lardage and exercise regularly.

Now I am trying to re-lose previous loss in order to get where I was before so that I can enter new territory on the scales and with my tape measure.

BUT WILL SHE REALLY DO IT?

Hopefully, the answer is “yes.”

Right soon now.

Maybe tomorrow…

Gratitude

A.A.Milne

Today I am grateful that Arkansas is starting to reopen its economy, allowing more local businesses to carefully supply their services. This is so important to the many small business people who fall through the cracks of Federal help in times like this, too many not qualifying for loans or unemployment.

This week my husband will get a haircut and I will get a massage. AHHHHH!  We have tried to do what we were able to support many of the important people in our personal lives, but going back to work will heal the wounds more quickly than anything else. I hope that this reopening is coming soon enough to get people back on their feet again with as little damage as possible.

As this reopening happens, at whatever time and pace where you live, remember that it is OUR responsibility to judge each thing we are doing, judging whether it is safe for us to do, or if we should defer it for later.

Take care. Be grateful. Be safe. Be well.
