I’m feeling a bit like a zombie this morning. I had to get up several times in the night, had real trouble finding a comfortable position, and then had bad dreams. I’m looking forward to a nice nap after lunch.
We’re supposed to have cooler temperatures and rain off and on from today through Sunday. I’ll selfishly take it. :0)
Etsy has a thing new to me where they mark your listings so you can see their suggestions for improving visibility. I have several listings where I only have one image, and they are suggesting that I have more, so I started yesterday editing those listings. It looks like it’ll take at least a couple more days to go through all of them. It could be a good thing.
I worked on two new wood burned pieces yesterday. I’m making plaques with pegs for leashes and such – one for dogs and the other for cats. I got a good start, and am having fun trying different techniques.
I hope you have a fun Friday and a great holiday weekend.
I’m a bit embarrassed to tell you that I’m slow on the uptake every once in a while. I just figured out a few minutes ago that Monday is Labor Day. The main reason that this is important to me is –
My dad used to boast that he was born on an appropriate day – Labor Day – in 1919. It was on September 6th that year, but I think fondly of him every Labor Day, mentally picturing him smirking at his ‘achievement.’ Gosh, I miss him.
We usually drive our trash down to the bottom of our driveway on Monday’s mid-morning, for pickup on Tuesday. Since Monday is Labor Day, Monday’s trash will be picked up Tuesday, etc, throughout the week. So I’ve changed my calendar for us to take the trash down TUESDAY for WEDNESDAY pickup – an important event around here. :0)
This is my newest wood burning effort. I’ve just listed him on Etsy.
I’m kind of disappointed. I told you that our tomatoes started ripening and that we were planning on enjoying fresh ripe sliced tomatoes again. My husband says they taste ‘funny,’ and has decided he doesn’t want anymore and won’t eat them. I’m still enjoying them, but can’t plan them as a delicious side for our lunches and dinners now. I guess I’ll end up pulling the plants.
Right now it’s 84 degrees outside with a ‘feels like’ of 96. Since the actual temperature is due to get to 97 degrees this afternoon, it sounds like it’s a great day to stay inside. (Frying like an egg on the sidewalk is not my idea of a good time.) I do think we’re supposed to get a bit cooler as we get to the weekend. YEA!!!
I’m starting two new plaques in my art room. Each will have two pegs. One will be for cats and the other for dogs. It’ll be fun working on them, and my husband says he’ll help me attach the pegs when the wood-burning and painting are finished. :0)
I particularly love this art because of the celebration of real life, rather than a dramatic representation of ‘sculpture,’ if that makes any sense. The real looking subjects, with bare feet, wrinkled sweaters, slumped shoulders really speaks to me. I just love it.
I finished another wood-burned piece yesterday. The only thing it needs is a protective coat of varnish.
My friend Marsha suggested I make wood-burned sign/plaques for pets with pegs for leashes, etc. I ordered what I needed and plan to start one for a dog and one for a cat today. My husband said he would help me attach the pegs once the designs are done. :0)
My cleanup of my art room is progressing. You can see there are actual counter tops and tables in there now! The work continues.
We have a bunch of quick errands plus my husband’s haircut this morning and then the rest of the day is free.
Good morning! It’s beautiful and 75 degrees F. here in Arkansas right now. The ‘feels like’ will go to 103 this afternoon, but I’ll get out this morning to harvest some more tomatoes and will avoid being out when the ‘hotness’ is at its peak.
I think we have a quiet day ahead, with no real ‘plans’ today, other than retrieving our trash can, getting our mail, and maybe replenishing a grocery or two –
I’m working on my latest wood-burned piece in my art room, and making progress on the big clean up. I started to go through some stuff up there yesterday afternoon, but was quickly overwhelmed and decided to skip it for the day. I want to end up with ‘areas’ of supplies and storage with old, used up or dried up things GONE and what is left organized in a fashion that makes it easier for me to put my hand on things. I hope I can make this a reality.
Today’s harvest
I’m just THRILLED that we’re getting ripe tomatoes again. I really thought we were finished for the year when we went essentially a month with green tomatoes that were showing absolutely no signs of ripening. We are savoring each mouthful.
I hope you’re having a nice morning. We’re back to our too-hot-regular-summer weather here. Our plants are starting to revive a bit. For quite a while there, it didn’t matter that we were watering every day, even increasing the time on the irrigation system, things were just overwhelmed by the ‘intense heat warnings.’ It’s really nice to be back to ‘regular,’ where the tomatoes have started to ripen again, the elephant ear plants are sprouting new leaves, and lilies and roses are starting to bloom again. Ahhhh.

It’s funny. I’m making progress on cleaning the art room, but the progress so far can only be measured by the fact that I have a 13 gallon trash bag’s worth of things I’ve gathered to throw away this week.
If you walked in there right now, it looks like someone needs to clean and reorganize. But that is better than wondering when the bomb exploded… Each day I’m enjoying doing more on whatever wood-burning piece I’m working on and then zeroing in on a table that needs to be cleaned off, or some things that need to be gathered and stored together somewhere. Something needs to be tossed. Something saved, but not ‘here.’ You get the picture. But it IS getting better daily.
Our only ‘have-to’s today are gathering and driving our trash down for pickup tomorrow and getting our mail. YEA.
I LOVE the creativity and humor shown in this piece!
This is the latest wood-burned piece. I’ll list it on HandmadeHavenByLinda on Etsy later today. I attached magnets to the back so that it’s ready to ‘stick’ to the fridge.
I’m slowly making order out of chaos in my art room each day. Yesterday I did three sessions – working on the piece plus going through more ‘stuff’ each time I was up there. It’s slowly looking like ‘someone might have had a problem,’ rather than ‘aftermath of the bomb.’
We enjoyed the first ripe tomatoes in about a month last night at dinner. I was truly amazed to find tomatoes ready to harvest yesterday. I had gone out there to see if the plants needed to be pulled for the season. It was such a nice surprise, and the tomatoes we shared were delicious. We have more waiting to be enjoyed and more on the plants. I’m in Heaven.

I was a good girl all day yesterday. I fixed us hot dogs for dinner, with my husband having hot dog buns with his and my having Mission Zero-Carb tortillas to hold mine. I turned to put them on the plate and my husband had poured out potato chips for each of us. SIGH. Guess who ate each. and. every. one. P.S. they were delicious.
Today is a keep-on-keepin’-on kind of day. I’ll start a new piece in the art room and continue my efforts to make it look like a real human lives there. I’m finding a group of things that I’ll probably list on my Etsy site to see if someone wants to adopt them. Leftovers for dinner, so I’ll probably be able to make time to do a good session of yoga this afternoon.
I started a new piece in my art room yesterday, plus I’m continuing to do a THOROUGH clean-out/clean-up/reorganization up there. I’m stopping when I feel myself starting to ‘stash’ things. I’m taking my time, trying to create ‘areas’ of activity or storage, so I can find things more easily, rather than it sometimes resembling a ‘treasure hunt.’ I’m trying to throw away things I haven’t used and probably won’t use, dried up paint tubes, ‘idea’ pictures that no longer speak to me, and more. I’m SUCH a slob… :0) I AM making some progress, though.
Our son left a picture on our chat program this morning. His friends, who have a condo in the same building, had a baby girl this morning. She joins their about 2-year-old son, so now they’re a family of four. Brian is an honorary ‘uncle’, having a great time being a part of their family and watching their kids grow and thrive.
A wonderful surprise! I found these just a minute ago. I decided to go out to check on the tomato plants, just expecting to see the same – plants with green tomatoes, looking kind of sad. Instead, I found ripe tomatoes! I guess the cooler temperatures of the last few days revived the plants. I had essentially written them off, so it was a super nice surprise. ALSO, I still have ONE tomato sucker plant that is really large now. I have no idea if it will produce tomatoes, but I staked it up this morning and will enjoy watching what happens. FUN EXPERIMENT!
