Fun in my Art Room
I’ve been playing a bit in my art room in-between cleaning up and re-painting yard critters. I painted 4 purses lately – one as a replacement for one a customer bought that closed with a snap that was almost impossible to open – and 3 others, all with zippers.
I think these mini-purses are a fun idea. They’re small (5″x7″) light-weight canvas with a long cord. They can be hung on your shoulder, worn cross body, or tied to your belt. They are large enough to hold your cellphone and other valuables, leaving your hands free for shopping, taking care of your dog on a walk, dancing with your husband, etc. The one above is called, “Abstract.”
“Abstract” and “Fantasy” are painted on one side. “Purple and White Delight” (below), is painted on both sides.

Arrgh
And I was sitting there, reading in my chair after dinner, minding my own business, and my husband came over – a huge smile on his face – and said, “Let’s go to Sonic and get a milkshake.”
What was I to do?
Half of me was thinking, “I’m really trying to keep my mouth shut and lose the lard.” The other half thought, “Life is short, and your husband wants to go out with you and do something fun.”
Guess which won.

“Dog with Bone” is Feeling Frisky
Our “Dog with Bone” yard critter is back up and feeling frisky. With the rains we’ve had, he had been in three pieces in the shop for quite awhile. In fact, when I took our dog Amber out with me, she wasn’t used to seeing him and barked, running over to check him out.
I plan to start cleaning another “shovel bird” today.
One of the reasons I was outside with Amber was to check on our elephant ear plants. They seem to be happy.

Book Joy
I finished re-reading the 51 previous paperback books in the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) and am anxiously awaiting delivery of paperback #52 “Faithless in Death” I think on the 27th of this month.
In the meantime, I started Nora’s trilogy called “The Sign of Seven“, reading Book 1, “Blood Brothers” yesterday. I’ve now ordered Books 2 and 3, which should arrive shortly.
Being able to dive into a well-loved book, or start a new one, is such a quality of life thing for me. I honestly don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t read and write every day.

“It’s Raining, It’s Pouring…”
It has rained off and on for 3 days straight, and we’re feeling a bit water-logged. The yard between the house and our shop is standing in water, so I’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow to put the pieces of the “Dog with Bone” yard critter together and him back out in the yard.
I’ve been playing in my art room painting a mini-purse for a nice lady. She bought one from my Etsy site recently, then wrote to tell me that the snap on the purse was so tight she couldn’t use it. I didn’t know about the problem and was embarrassed. I took the two mini-purses that had snaps off my site and ordered some that had zippers. It’s beige, but I’m painting it a dark blue to resemble denim and then will paint ladybugs and leaves on both sides. I’m hoping to have the replacement in the mail to her tomorrow. I’m grateful for the chance to make it right with her.
I had a rare, fun thing happen recently. I ordered some tops from Amazon. I tried them on when they came and they were WAAAAY too big! Talk about a rare, fun thing!!!! :0) I returned them, and ordered a totally different style and a smaller size. THEY came a couple of days ago and are GREAT! They’re called “yoga tees” and come in a package of 5. They’re comfortable, stretchy, and have moisture wicking. I love them!
I’ll be painting, waiting for it to dry, then painting some more the rest of the day. I hope my customer will like the replacement. Fingers crossed.

Are Owls Really Wise?

Sadness
I’ve had my goldfish for about 6 years now.
I didn’t give them names, but we ‘talked’ several times a day. Twice a day they would bunch up in the corner of the tank, opening and closing their mouths rapidly and wiggling their little bodies in anticipation of the ‘delicious’ food I sprinkled in. There was a lot of activity as they avidly ate every little bit, and then were calm again.
After lots of research, I had finally found a combination of filters and treatments that kept their tank water clean and sparkling. My husband was noticing the other day that I wasn’t having to clean the tank every week anymore.
Last week the smaller fish died. We talked about getting another fish, but I thought we should just be thankful we had one fish.
This morning the larger fish was gone, too.
I guess it’s stupid to be sad over a couple of fish, but even with no names, they were members of our family for a long time. They will be missed.

Change of Focus?
I’ve been gritching to my sister-in-law about the scales not being impressed with my efforts to lose my lard.
She made what I think might be a good suggestion – she said maybe a change of focus, to measuring tape, rather than scales, would help keep me on track.
I had already planned to measure at the end of the month, so I’ll focus on that as I do my daily yoga practice and my three days a week exercises with weights. I’ll continue with my present eating, watching my portions and continuing with my 3 bottles of water a day and see what happens.
Jury Still Out
The jury is still out on whether the two plants of lettuce I bought at the grocery store yesterday will live or not. Last night I flooded the soil with water and then left the pot in the sink drainer overnight. Today I cut off a lot of limp leaves, but things are still alive. This is a fun project whether it works or not.
We’re supposed to get a lot of rain over the next three days. I’m hoping this keeps the temperatures down low enough that I can work in the shop a bit without croaking. Yesterday I got the “Dog With Bone” yard critter cleaned and ready to start re-painting. When we get home from Lunch Bunch, I’m hoping to be able to work out there.

Current Experiment
Today I bought two lettuce plants in the produce section of the grocery store. I put both in a pot of potting soil and put them on the divider between our kitchen and our dining area.
I’m HOPING that the air conditioning will keep the plants cool enough and that they’ll get enough light that they will perk up and continue to grow, allowing me to snip off enough leaves for a nice salad for us from time to time. It would be a glorious luxury, wouldn’t it? Fingers crossed.

I used to consider a massage a luxury. Now I look at it as an essential part of my well-being. If the end of the world happened, I would still reluctantly give it up. I take my poor, battered, tense body, with knots and soreness to Lynn, and she returns me a very relaxed lady smiling from ear to ear.
If you have regular massages, you know what I mean. If you don’t, I am encouraging you to give yourself one of the best gifts there is.
