“The Culturist” on Substack is introducing me to several artists who should have received more recognition than they did. I am so happy to see their beautiful work and to share it with you.

Frits Thaulow was a Norwegian Impressionist painter, best known for his naturalistic depictions of landscape. Wikipedia. I have always said that painting water and snow were impossible. Obviously this incredibly talented artist didn’t get the memo.

The paintings were displayed in a post by The Culturist, Substack.

I’m just in awe of this artist’s talent. It should be impossible to paint this well.

I have said it’s impossible to paint snow or water. I’m again proven wrong – this time by the breathtaking work of Beth Robertson Fiddes. She not only can paint the ocean; I can almost HEAR the water. Simply amazing.

Eleonore Bernair’s artwork simply takes my breath away. I shared some of her work yesterday. I almost expect to be able to reach out and FEEL the water.

Eleonore Bernair’s work is impossible. I don’t even think that PHOTOGRAPHS this good would be possible, much less PAINTINGS!

I officially admit to being wrong in my opinion that water is impossible to paint. I’m truly in awe of people who can paint water or snow, though, and these paintings remind us how MUCH talent and beauty abound in our world.

I’m proven wrong AGAIN – a THIRD time, so far – on water being impossible to paint. I guess I’ll modify my thoughts to “It’s impossible for ME to paint water.” I find these water paintings simply stunning.

I told you that I thought painting water was impossible. Then I showed you the work of Leonore Bernair. Today I found another artist who paints water gloriously, too. His name is Richard Johnson.

I simply can’t believe these are PAINTED. I haven’t seen many PHOTOGRAPHS that capture the beauty of water like this. I believe painting water is impossible, and this fabulous artist proves me dead wrong again. What a talent!
