3-D Drawing

I don’t draw well. I love finding people who do, wishing I could learn, but knowing that I’ll just have to thoroughly enjoy what others can create. Adding 3-D-ness to the art simply blows my mind. I’m impressed with the ability to convey ‘regular’ perspective in drawings, but making the work leap up off the page is mind-boggling. I found some wonderful examples yesterday –

Besides this being beautiful art, the technique used brings the art of quilling to another level. The more traditional style, which is also beautiful, uses the strips mainly curled up to create the effects, rather than the strips being added on their edges, as Rebekah does. Here’s a nice example –

There is a whole new look achieved by Rebekah when she turns the strips on their edges. I think it’s absolutely amazing.

Quilling is an art that is rapidly changing. The first quilling I saw involved flowers and simple things created with long strips of paper curled up to make designs on things like announcements, greeting cards, etc. I loved them because they were colorful, 2-dimensional, and quite creative.

As I’ve watched, this art is evolving. Now artists are creating super-complicated, 3-dimensionl ‘paintings,’ plus portraits, and now “on-edge” creations that really blow my mind.

I have no idea how she does this, but I am in awe. I found the images above in an article on MyModernMet.com by Sara Barnes.

I’m in awe of the talent shown here, and the creativity. All the same medium – paper – but such different techniques and results.
